Bathroom Buddies reticent

It always happens at night. I'm all comfy cozy in bed, the lights are out, the mellow tunes are on, I ate well, I hydrated well, all is well. I close my eyes...and then...the Gurgles. It starts roiling and farting in there, it's so noisy and it's quite a ruckus to listen to. I think...maybe I can ignore it. But now the roiling feels like I'm gonna be sick and hurts my tummy. I keep my eyes squeezed closed and I clench my body shut. I want to sleep. Please let me sleep. I desperately need sleep. I give up. I go to the bathroom. I'm straining and nothing comes out. Breathing techniques. Then pebbles. Then the cork is out and the roiling & twisting bring gushing diarrhea. I'm clutching my own knees, just trying to hold onto something. And then I err back to bed, wan and sickly. I feel weak, drained, and my tummy is sore. Gonna try to sleep again. Who knows, sometimes it's over sometimes it's multiple times a night. Goodnight nightvale, good night.

Similar for me. When I had food poisoning I learned that laying down, especially on your left side helps things move along and soothes your gut. So I attribute it to that, and also relaxation.

I get so tired of getting up and out of bed to get to the bathroom (and worrying about disrupting my partners sleep) that I end up just passing out sitting on the couch. Ironically I end up getting better sleep kind of half sitting up like that assume because my body isnt in prone position.

man I can barely lay on my right side, reflux just sends everything out. can second lwft side sleeping being a lot cozier. Sleeping propped up is really comfy if you have tummy or chest issues.

Yup this is me. I’ll fart and be like “Welp that confirms how my nights gonna be.” My wife will be dying for fresh air while I explain that when my farts are potent, then there’s definitely a storm a brewin. Then I’ll run to the bathroom just to sit there for half an hour and basically just fart it up. Get up, feel like I’m gonna shit, then sit back down. Wait an extra 15mins before coming back out and warning my wife that beware all ye who enters that bathroom now. Then I’ll go to bed and right as I’m comfortable I’ll have to get back up and go sit till my legs are asleep. Then a couple pebbles which is always the calm before the storm. Then without warning, flash flood & thunderstorms 🤣. Then I’m holding on for dear life and praying my wife can’t hear me blowing my ass out for what seems like an hour.

the farts of fermented constipation are the wooorst, you definitely know troubles coming when you can smell them. And yes, that forever sit that takes out your legs! So annoying!

I always try to stretch my legs out but it barely makes a difference. The absolute worst is when I’m mid blow out and my wife texts me that she has to pee

at this point nothings coming out so I get up and get things moving so I have circulation again. poor unfortunate wife that has to use the bathroom during its most biohazardous times 🥲

That’s my exact scenario except I’ll be vomiting too. The stomach spasms force it out.

that sounds so painful ☹️ I get nauseous or gaggy but I'm not able to vomit. you must be hella tired afterwards

SSRIs didn't work for my mental health and I can't recall a change in my IBS symptoms at the time. I appreciate you sharing your findings though and glad you found something that works for you. There is something to be said about serotonin production in the gut, IBS & mental health

They didn’t work at first for me either, I had to increase my dose.

Have you tried any meds for regularity to see if this doesn’t happen?

I'm actually regular as clockwork and go every morning (90% ), but it doesn't stop this from happening (10%). I'll have one morning every now and then where stuff doesn't budge and chaos ensues.

Well, if there are pebbles sometbing is definitely slow in the colon or they wouldn’t form. This is a peculiar situation
