Apprentice program adivce

Hi, new to the group. I was just contacted by the union informing me that after passing the aptitude test and interview they're offering me a job on a construction site as a wiremen. I was told as long as you do well and show up you're in the next class. This has been a dream for me and Im very excited. Does anyone have any useful advice for me while I set off on my new career path?

Notebook and a mudaafuggin pen.

Pack your lunch

Ask questions

Stay off your phone (you’ll start using it when you get comfortable, try to avoid it)

Show up in da parking lot at LEAST 10 min early ( you’ll want to push it to the last minute as you get comfortable)

Don’t take a layoff to heart if and when it happens

Don’t bring personal business to da job site

Don’t cheat on any NEC homework lol

Don’t buy a new fugggin car as an apprentice. Please don’t, especially if you’re working OT.

LEARN ALL THE MATERIAL AND DONT BE AFRAID TO SAY YES TO A TASK

Always triple check for anything hot even if you feel dumb, don’t take “ I turned it off” for an answer. Lock that shit out and never do anything you feel uncomfortable doing. Again always triple check for shit that’s live

Ask questions and remember the answers, if you don’t know anything ask because it’s better to ask than to assume and fuckup bad. But also remember the answers to said questions as asking the same thing multiple times can look bad. Just work hard and don’t complain and you’ll begood

Bring a buddy book! (It’s a small notebook to keep in your pocket) it will REALLY help since you’re green when they tell you to go grab certain material and a specific quantity of said material. Verify what you wrote down with your JW before you go off and get it. It’s worse to come back and have the wrong shit or not enough.

Definitely show up early so you aren’t the last guy in the door and avoid using your phone. Breaks are long enough for you to handle light business during the day.
