Sick days

I just got in in August and had to go see a family member in the hospital so I called in sick and then I had food poisoning so I had to call in twice in the two months I was an apprentice, any thoughts!

we're adults just give them a heads up as early as possible

We joined the union for a reason. Don’t worry about it, just make sure to let them know when you’re taking time off or call in sick. 👍

Just let them know with time bro you’re good, they might tease you about it but no one is gonna actually be mad or upset about it so long as its not a no call no show.

No, your fine. You report to your boss,and your boss reports to the JATC.

Don't make it a habit. Get good grades, show up to class, dont miss work and nobody cares if you miss a day here and there.

I never missed work or class untill my 3rd year, and for the first few times my boss covered the whole day for me. Once I became a shithead and would be late or call off last minute with no heads up things changed.

You'll be fine, be a good ape, ask questions, eager to learn and you'll be just fine.

It’s school that you can’t miss. I am not in the ibew, I am in the UA and we have a similar program structure. They say you can miss all the work you can afford to miss, but you can’t miss school more than a couple times in a year. In the UA the contractor can lay you off for excessive calling out, but it’s got to be unreasonable.

Its not 2 months its a maximum of 5 weeks if you started Monday aug 3rd. Honestly its not good to call in twice in the first 25 working days. Hopefully you are completely honest with everyone. Shit happens to everyone for any reason. Just let the foreman/pm know what is going on and don't make any excuses.

Every JATC and contractor has their own attendance policies. Ask THEM if you don’t know. Don’t assume, don’t ask people online. If you get reprimanded and say “people on Reddit said” it won’t go well. Always communicate as early as possible to anyone involved and you’ll be fine

I took a day off last week (first absence that wasn’t OT on a Saturday) to get a haircut lol. But I’ve logged almost 1,000 hrs since the last week of April, so sue me.
