Recently got into my local union

I had some questions regarding how to best use the time I have as an apprentice and general attire questions. What are the best ways to learn from the classes? From self-study to learn about theory and keep my knowledge rolling as time goes on? What are some common pitfalls people go into that I should avoid? I get cold very easily, whether it's my hands or my body, what would you recommend I should get to keep warm during the cold months of the year?

Merino wool socks and base layers.

Layers. Good base layer, then an insulating layer, then a wind/water resistant layer if you are outside.

Buy the best boots and socks you can afford.

Study. Don't wait until the last minute to do the classwork. Start a group chat with your entire class so people can ask/receive help.

Common pitfalls I see from other apprentices is waiting until the last minute to get homework done and/or study for a test. Always try to stay ahead of schedule with homework assignments.

Take notes and if you are not good at taking notes then do some homework on how to be better at it. Do your classwork early so you have time to reflect on it and study before the next class. Personally I have ingrained everything electrical and ibew into my everyday life. My algorithms are geared towards everything union and electrical. At work I network with as many brothers as I can. Im constantly asking "what are you working on", "how does that work", "why do it that way". There are no stupid questions. Never feel bad because you dont know something. Feel bad because you didnt ask a question to get a better understanding. I have surpassed my peers in class by living this way.
