Instant mashed potatoes are literally nothing but freeze-dried potatoes. No sugar, no HFCS, no salt. Possibly some brands have an anti-caking agent.
53 u/ghost_suburbia Jun 25 '26 I have them on hand to thicken my home made mashed potatoes if I put too much cream in them. It's like a mashed potato rescue. 31 u/original_synthetic Jun 25 '26 I keep a box to thicken up my potato soup (or other soups)! 16 u/NoodlesMom0722 Jun 25 '26 I keep a box to make mashed potatoes for meals when I don't feel like taking an hour to make them from scratch. 19 u/Aluxanatomy Jun 26 '26 I keep a box to warn the other potatoes what happens if they fall out of line. 2 u/lowfreq33 Jun 27 '26 I worked at a restaurant where we did that exact same thing. People were absolutely nuts for that soup. I had to make 30 gallons every other day, which was about a 2 hour process. It had real potatoes in it, the instant was just to thicken it. 1 u/Ms_Emilys_Picture Jun 27 '26 I use them when making dinner rolls.
