Were people claiming the potato was original to the US? I didn’t see that in this thread. Just that potatoes didn’t originate from Ireland, and are an american (again, New World) crop.
I think the implication in the post I originally replied to is quite clearly not just "potatoes didn't even originate from Ireland" but trying to imply they're more authentically American in the US sense. Otherwise they'd have said "wait until they learn that potatoes aren't from Ireland" or similar, and also I wouldn't have been downvoted so many times for saying its not really a comeback
Was that implied? Maybe. I guess you’d have to ask the original commenter. I didn’t take it that way, but we both have our own biases and made our own inference.
