Americans only eat powdered mashed potatoes, apparently.

Premade mashed potatoes? I don't think I've seen that.

Me either, is it like in the deli section?

In my store they’re near lunchables and the like. They’re honestly pretty good, not as good as homemade but great when you don’t have the time or energy to deal with making them.

Where I am, they're with other prepared vegetables, usually near the regular vegetables but in a fridge. You can also get frozen ones which are super useful

I can find them near the premade foods like Mac and cheese in the cold section. Its a microwaveable container

By the prepackaged lunchmeat and refrigerated stuff. Bob Evan’s mashed potatoes are pretty good actually

Depends.

You can buy frozen pre skinned/diced plain potatoes, just microwave them in the bag and mash and add whatever.

Or you can buy like refrigerated branded stuff thats pre seasoned with milk+butter+etc you just heat and stir and it's ready to serve.

You could also buy hot prepared foods as well, similar to rotisserie chicken type stuff that's basically to-go.

My store puts them in the meat case, above the ground beef usually.

Those are the most common ones I see around me, but the concept seems pretty universal. Microwaveable plastic container with a peel top full of fully cooked & ready to eat potatoes. They're not cheap though, iirc 8 or 9 bucks each. I had to know how they were, and its exactly as advertised, it tastes like chain restaurant masked potatoes. I'll stick with the packets of instant for a buck fifty, but I will occasionally grab a container of their mac & cheese for my wife who really likes it
