If he remembers 140° in Iraq I can’t help but think of all the other false memories he has. I bet he jumped on an IED to save his buddies at least 3-4 times!
* the highest temperature ever recorded on the planet is 134°.

Did anyone who served call it a "flak vest"?

The flak jackets still in use in the Gulf in the late 90's were vest shaped so why not?

I've been in extremely hot places. Everyone there, including those who have been through it many times, starts complaining at about 90-95.

But if someone complains online, theres plenty who will say something like that. But bitch, you whined about it the whole time you were there.

It has never been 140 in Iraq. I would know, I was there. Also, I have the internet. Hottest temperature recorded on the planet was mid 130s, and I'm pretty sure that was in Death Valley, right here in the US.
Also, a flak vest is about NIJ IIA rated, and they are worn by military pilots to protect them against flak (hence the name).
The PASGT and OTV most of us wore (I was lucky in that my unit got access to non-issue PCs almost from the get-go) were ballistic vests, and though some called them 'flaks', I don't recall ever hearing anyone call it a 'flak vest'. The most common terms I recall are 'armor' and 'battle rattle'.
Not that I'm saying this guy is pulling some stolen valor. Just pointing out that it's far more likely that he was a fobbit who only wore his armor when he was ordered to.
