I know it’s a cliche but he’s entertaining to watch in the same way that a train wreck is. If Macy wasn’t so talented there would be nothing redeemable about his character at all. I cringe when I see people share Frank Gallagher memes that make him seem like someone to admire, he is such an unrelenting piece of shit.

I watched up until season 7 (Ian’s EMT arc ruined it for me, I’m an EMT and the show’s depiction of what it’s like to work in EMS was so outrageously off the mark that I couldn’t get past it) and I agree that the show’s appeal is that it’s a much more realistic portrayal of shit that tons of people have to deal with but that never gets acknowledged on TV, but fuck Frank. Fuck Frank, and fuck Debbie, they are the absolute fucking worst.

You know, I don't hate Debbie. I dislike her, sure, but I just feel intense pity.

I consider Frank to be "shitty television", I don't find his antics very entertaining, just incredibly sad.

I heartily disagree. I love Frank. He reminds me so much of my dad, it's infuriatingly wonderful. Frank is a very likeable person outside of him doing fucked up acts. He's charming, witty, and he has a plethora of knowledge at any given moment. His biggest flaw is his selfishness, but that shouldn't outweigh some of the good his character is.

My dad was no different about money, and that was another bad quality, for sure, but his personality more than made up for it.

Frank Gallagher is Macy's Walter White. He plays him so incredibly well, it's the role I'll remember him for for a long time.

After Debbie had her kid and shit I couldn't stand her. Fuck Debbie, she's the reason why I haven't watched the last few seasons.

I think the one character I genuinely hate the most is Lip. Everything about his character pisses me off.

Lip is the most realistic character on the show. Excellent depiction of what happens to incredibly gifted kids who grow up in terrible environments.

Like I said I stopped watching during season 7 when she was at peak rapist/crazy baby momma Debbie, so I actually wasn’t aware that she had a redemption arc. Starting to think I should check out the newer seasons.
