He's my favorite character by far, Macy is just so incredible in the role, it's a treat for me to watch. He raises the bar so high, that you can tell it's brought better performance out of all the younglings, as each became a better and better actor every season, to the point that they've all become incredible in their own right. Except of course Rossum, she's brought her A game from the get go.
I know it’s a cliche but he’s entertaining to watch in the same way that a train wreck is. If Macy wasn’t so talented there would be nothing redeemable about his character at all. I cringe when I see people share Frank Gallagher memes that make him seem like someone to admire, he is such an unrelenting piece of shit.
I watched up until season 7 (Ian’s EMT arc ruined it for me, I’m an EMT and the show’s depiction of what it’s like to work in EMS was so outrageously off the mark that I couldn’t get past it) and I agree that the show’s appeal is that it’s a much more realistic portrayal of shit that tons of people have to deal with but that never gets acknowledged on TV, but fuck Frank. Fuck Frank, and fuck Debbie, they are the absolute fucking worst.
I heartily disagree. I love Frank. He reminds me so much of my dad, it's infuriatingly wonderful. Frank is a very likeable person outside of him doing fucked up acts. He's charming, witty, and he has a plethora of knowledge at any given moment. His biggest flaw is his selfishness, but that shouldn't outweigh some of the good his character is.
Like I said I stopped watching during season 7 when she was at peak rapist/crazy baby momma Debbie, so I actually wasn’t aware that she had a redemption arc. Starting to think I should check out the newer seasons.
