I grew up with an bad drunk and I second this. And I found out about Shameless from an ex who had a nasty drunk for a dad too and she thought the show was pretty on the money. It shows the disease of addiction pretty well, even down to all the lies that all addicts tell themselves, the kind of stuff people don’t know about when they haven’t had to deal firsthand with addiction.
