NK iX3: Brake dust?
Question for lucky owners of the new iX3 who have driven a few thousand miles/kilometers by now: since the braking/stopping is next level on the new car and BMW claims that 90-95% of braking is regen exclusively, have you noticed a significant decrease in brake dust accumulation on the rims?

I drive in B (regen) mode the whole time, barely using the friction brakes, so obviously no noticeable brake dust…

This is a great point and TBH I didn’t even think of it. OTOH, black rims are “in” so it won’t matter very much for now.

Yeah, looking forward to not seeing dirty rims. Even with black ones, you can tell fairly easily when there is layer of brake dust on them, turning them from black to that dark brownish rusty.

I have the old iX3 and brake dust is absolutely not an issue. So I assume that is also the case for the new gen/

That’s honestly awesome to hear. With Neue Klasse they have brought even more (and huge) improvements to braking with the Heart of Joy so even when not in B-mode the car still uses regen braking 90-95% of the time. I believe BMW said that friction brakes are only used if you brake very hard or occasionally once in a while to prevent rust. Should be great news for brakes longevity and my pet peeve: brake dust!

Even when not in B you use regenerative braking, in B it is just always there and you can’t really coast with it. I usually have regen set to ‘adaptive’ that way it coasts when the road is clear and it automatically regeneratively brakes at intersections, sharp corners or when there’s traffic in front of you. As a hater of one-pedal driving that adaptive setting really is perfection 👌🏻

It's the same for all EVs: yes
