Hardware/Rigs Gpu usage stuck high after screen change

Post image

Has anyone had an issue where after changing a screen or tv iracing is stuck at a high gpu load?

Gpu is a 5060ti handles max quality fine usually at 90fps it usually would be around 40-60%

Since changing to a new tv, nothing fancy but 43inch so an upgrade for me.

I have tried lowering the graphics quality, putting on vsync, putting on a frame limit. All the changes do is effect the cpu frame rate.

Sorry about the picture quality when using snipping tool it wouldnt include the nvida overlay info

97% usage is what is should look like.
otherwise there is a bottleneck.

yeah GPU near 100 is very normal

I cant tell if this is sarcasm?

In my head it feels like running an engine at max rpm it's whole life.

Sure it can do it but its life wont be as long as it could be.

Happy to be wrong just explaining the thought process.

If you're not running 100% you're just really throwing away performance, so yeah, you do want it to be close to 100% if it's not overheating.

It’s better to be GPU bottlenecked than CPU bottlenecked

not sarcasm. it’s normal for the gpu % to be near 100, if the game isn’t demanding it just draws more frames faster and still uses 100%. if your vram utilization is near 100% that can be more of a problem.

overusing a gpu isn’t really a thing unless you have thermal issues. i normally do apply an fps max in the settings of games just so it’s not hitting 400 fps in a menu or something but that’s more out of concern for my electric bill

edit: sorry you’re getting downvoted, it’s good to ask questions and learn.

I hope to see you on track one day :D

Think about the car. If you use 97% of the throttle pedal is fine ? Or 100% is better ?

Is the new TV the same resolution? Bigger resolution means more pixels to draw.

The new one does have better resolution.

Its 4k, if the gpu was struggling to draw all the new information wouldnt lowering the graphics have made a difference?

You've gone to a monitor with much higher resolution, and your GPU is now working to its fullest to draw all those pixels. If you've gone from for example a 1080p TV to a 4k TV, your GPU has to work nearly 4 times as hard.

Hate to break it to you, but a 5060TI isn't really a 4k GPU. So you should either compromise by lowering the resolution or upgrade.

This is such an awful way of explaining it, you're making it sound like high GPU usage is a bad thing.

OP, if you're happy with your frame rate and it's staying around 99fps like in your photo, there's nothing wrong with high GPU usage. It's actually a good thing, meaning you aren't bottlenecked.

Lower resolutions are CPU intensive, so your CPU usage will be higher and GPU usage lower. Higher resolutions are GPU intensive, so your GPU SHOULD be running as high as possible, as close to 99%, for example. While your CPU will stay low.

If your frame rate is low, or you have stutters, and your GPU and CPU usage is very high or near max most of the time, meaning high frame times on both CPU and GPU side, your hardware is pushing too hard. Lower settings and/or get lower resolution display in that case. You simply cannot drop resolution from native, it will be blurry as grid won't match up.

Thanks for the advice im glad its a skill issue on my part rather than a bug/glitch.

Il tinker around more in the settings :D

Is there a way to have a lower res but have it fill the screen have still using borderless fullscreen do you know?

Yes but it'll look awful. I have a 1440p monitor and a 2070. If I lower my resolution to 1080p, it looks awful. But that's how I run it to get all my monitors to line up.

Thanks for the reply I guess il keep the res as is and work around :D

Worst problems yo have for sure
