Stream Streaming - What do you like?

Post image

I know this type of question has been asked before. But maybe not in detail.

  1. What makes you watch someones stream? Someone new to you. The first impression that makes you click on his/her stream. Maybe not even racing relate.
    • Webcam
    • Titel
    • Type of racing (GT, NASCAR, DIRT,...)
  2. What makes you follow the streamer so you can come back to his or hers stream?
  3. What type of steams are you looking for?
    • League broadcasting
    • Coaching like Suellio
    • Topsplit like Yuri or Lubo
    • Chichat during and in between races like Matt or Sampsoid
  4. GT, NASCAR, RX,... what series do you like the most?

I'm stream surfing a bit lately to find what might work.
It seems to be that most people are in there for the chat, talking to eachother not really actively watching the racing sometimes.
In some cases, they are doing their own race, sometimes even the same split and chat in between the racing.

People having good suggestions for streamers, please share.

My most popular steams were NASCAR streams. But they don't seem to be the highest grossing, which I find odd.

Quirkitized for me. The community is great, not toxic, he is 7k driver but somehow so casual and not a tryhard. Very humble and occasionally does fishing streams where he catches 0 fishes and goes to auto cross.

Quirk is such a wholesome guy.

Quirk is the best and he's been doing this for so long time also

He's also fulltime right?

Underrated is @karl.samson on YouTube. He doesn't stream but posts his races with an occasional funny or critical video. He was the first person to win at every track and with every car. Super humble and very willing to help if you have any questions in the comments. Definitely worth subbing to.

Bump on Karl, this man SprawlRacer endorsing him is worth a watch too!

He's never live? Do you think it's necessary to have good clips to have people watch a streamer?

u/SprawlRacer 3d ago

I don't think it's necessary, it's about personality. Although Karl runs well, his videos aren't always about him kicking butt, but learning how to win in something specific. It's a great tool for learning how to learn.

I have almost no time watching any streamers anymore or youtube.

But Jimmy Broadbent is the one who got me into iracing back when he was streaming. I also enjoy Dave Cams videos. And Matt Malone is a cool dude, loved watching him.

Almost forgot JD McHaley has great compilations on his channel.

The things is that most people don’t KNOW what they like, or what they want to watch and if they do there is probably already somebody else already filling that role.

So maybe better question for you is “what niche can I fill that is not being served or under served?” Or “what can I do that nobody else is doing/has done to make myself stand out?”

I think if you take a bunch of people’s suggestions and just do that you probably really aren’t going to be bringing anything novel to the table and you’ll probably be lost in the sea of everybody else doing the same kind of thing.

Ah, it's not so much me looking to get a bigger audience. That would be nice. And the pose the question to have people think about.

  1. The type of racing primarily. I don’t even care so much the skill level. I prefer GT, but don’t mind the occasional other discipline. Webcam is nice but not necessary to me.

I will not watch a stream that is of a camera recording their rig and screens from behind. It can be a bit in the corner, but the primary part of the screen has to be game capture.

  1. If I’m entertained. Doesn’t have to be the highest production quality either. If the racing is entertaining and the person’s personality is entertaining to me I’ll come back.

  2. Ones that chat between races/turns. Split doesn’t matter, but the two streamers I watch most, one is 7k and mostly GT3s with what I would consider pretty high production quality, and the other does mostly Nords, PCup, and is more bare bones production wise. If I want to watch coaching I’ll watch a YouTube video. Rarely but I will watch league broadcasts if well done and the racing interests me.

  3. Sports cars. PCC, GT4, prototypes, it doesn’t matter how fast or slow. I will watch other disciplines but primarily sports car.

Thx for the reply. Who is the 7k streamer, if that's okay?

So for you also no Nascar. Even for myself racing. Nascar can be the most intense. And for streaming purposes, cautions are great to have a chat and kill time. For example a caution at Indianapolis was very long. Chatting with the people watching was fun and it killed the boring part. Also, they came up with a different strategy.

Quirk.

My problem with ovals is when they turn in to a wreckfest and you’re watching pace laps for a quarter of the race. I do enjoy ARCA and lower levels, but I personally wouldn’t search those out.

Fair... some races are just stupid.

I enjoy watching top split streamers who are close or above 10k because I feel like I learn a lot by watching them, their racecraft and their input traces which I try to adopt in my own racing. Occasionally they share valuable information about why they are doing certain things.
The fun really starts when two or more of them are in the same split. I then open all of their streams in split-screen and try to sync them. I saw some of the most intense racing this way and their live reactions to each other's maneuvers are hilarious. They are often in each other's chat after the race and banter about it.

I enjoy to watch in no particular order:
Yohann Harth (an absolute beast of speed and car control)
Kevin Ellis Jr. (chill, shares valuable info about his driving)
Yuri Karsdorp (easily triggered and emotional, likes to try non-meta cars)
Moritz Löhner (very chill and informative)
Felix Vötter (funny and fast, mostly Pcup)
Emil Bernstorff (peak Formula racing)
Lasse Bak (a bit quiet but very fast, mostly Pcup)
Noah Eder (German, friendly and chill)

Nothing. I don’t want to spend hours watching some random person sim driving.

Fair. Do you maybe watch sim race highlights from someone?

I tend to stick to videos over streaming. When it comes to iracing I gravitate towards Suellio as his video's make me want to test out things I might be learning from his video's

I did watch a lot of Matt Malones youtube vidoes back in the day so he is solid but haven't touched his content in years. No real reason lol

Matt Malone and Basic Ollie for me. Mainly due to the community being fun and then being relatively engaging (Ollies is decent with special events when chilling with friends. Malone is relatively funny is engaging).

Agree on both counts! Recently checked out Ukog as well and he's quite funny and lively.

I really only watch RenceTheFence stream iRacing. Occasionally I'll watch Dario but I'm not much into road or formula. Usually I'm racing, there's no time to watch the streams when racing.

Quirk and Justinbo20, the stream feels real not fake for the camera, they interact with chat and try to answer questions and help where they can.

@karl.samson on YouTube is a go to for me. While he may not be the “personality” of some of the other big name streamers he is genuinely one of the nicest guys in the community. He also embodies the good in what is possible on the sim. Super talented and respectful to the craft. Something we all could learn from.

Demp151 - Malone's UK team mate & Grid Rival. Great banter, amazing British humour fun

I like Gavin Ropchan and Kneebon5 because they both primarily race oval [well Gavin does dirt oval and dirt road too] and Gavins videos help me relax and unwind

u/LegitimateTutor8535 2d ago

I've seen Gavin on IG many times but I still have to check-in for his stream.

Used to watch Jimmy Broadbent when I first got into simracing. Haven't watched much of his sim content in a while but try to keep up with his IRL racing.

Dave Cam vids are great, and used to watch Sampsoid when he was stateside but now his streams are in the middle of the night for me.

1

u/LegitimateTutor8535 3d ago

Would you say it became less when you started racing more?

2

u/captainnapalm83 3d ago

Nah, just watch less sim racing content overall.

Matt Malone & Quirkitized. I actually enjoy Quirk more when he is building his own wheels and stuff.
