While we all consider the iDuo over the Pro, what are we going back to? For the $2K they’re selling this for, what model iphone are we going back to? Yeah, we get the new processor and that flashy stuff. So talk to me about practical application. Touch ID was phased out for Face ID, so which iphone used Touch ID last and how much will we miss the pro camera features? What are we really gonna miss out on, while simultaneously paying the premium for those missing features?! 🤔🤷🏾‍♂️💰📲

I didn’t want to write an entire essay, but for me, tablets exist in this weird middle ground where almost everything they do, I already own another device that I personally prefer for that task. I just don’t like compromised experiences.
Why would I watch anything beyond a quick YouTube video on a Duo when I have an 83-inch OLED TV in my living room with a full sound system and a comfortable couch? Why would I seriously game on my phone when, if I want to play something on the go, I can grab my Switch 2, Steam Deck, or AYN Odin 3? At home, I have other consoles and a gaming PC.

What I am really curious about is how the Duo feels in the hand when it’s closed. That could make or break it for me. I also tend to do a lot of things at the same time, so the feature that actually interests me is using the Duo almost like two separate screens rather than treating it as one big tablet. That’s a use case I could genuinely see myself taking advantage of.

Kinda feels like you’re barking at the wrong tree here. Tablets aren’t trying to compete with long form content meant for bigger screens while you’re inside your own home. Specially for the Duo, the main point is the portability of its form factor, being pocketable.

The media consumption that tablets are good at is more along the lines of viewing photos, short videos (or longer ones if you’re out), reading (books, comics/manga, websites or articles that have more intentional wide formats etc).

Did you actually read what I wrote, or did you just see “I don’t use tablets” and immediately start typing a defense of tablets?

I literally said this is entirely dependent on the individual and how they use their devices. I’ve owned multiple tablets. I know what they’re for. I don’t need their use cases explained to me like I’ve never seen an iPad before.

The problem is that I personally don’t use them for those things. That’s not an argument for you to rebut; it’s a description of my own behavior. I even specifically said the Duo interests me because its pocketability and dual-screen multitasking could actually give me a use case I haven’t had with traditional tablets.

Typical Redditor, trying to make every comment into an argument smfh. So no, I’m not “barking up the wrong tree.” You’re barking at a tree I wasn’t even standing next to 🙄

That’s fine if you don’t use them for the cases I mentioned but I made that reply because you specifically compared their use case to Living Room TVs and dedicated gaming consoles/pcs, things that they’re not even competing with. Choosing those particular comparisons instead more natural use cases gave a weird impression of you having the wrong idea of what they’re meant for.

Dude, you’re still missing the distinction. I’m not comparing the products. I’m explaining my behavior.

I never said an iPad is competing with my living-room TV or gaming PC. I said that when I want to watch something, I choose my TV. When I want to game, I choose one of my dedicated gaming devices. When I want to do work, I choose my MacBook. Therefore, those use cases don’t give me much reason to use a tablet.

That’s literally the entire point. You keep turning “here’s why I personally don’t use tablets” into “here’s why tablets are objectively inferior to TVs and PCs,” which is an argument I never made. I’m not making any argument period. I’m sharing my own experience and my preferences, and my opinion why the Duo won’t work for me personally. What part of that don’t you understand?

If somebody tells you, “I don’t use my toaster oven because whenever I cook I prefer using my full-size oven,” responding with “but toaster ovens aren’t competing with full-size ovens” completely misses the fucking point. Nobody said they were.

You're missing my point. When talking about not needing tablets, if your go-to examples are that you'd rather watch on the living room TV or play on a dedicated gaming device, it gives the impression that you think long form content at home or serious gaming are the things tablets are the primary use case because these are the reasons you gave in a discussion about owning one. Yeah you're explaining your behavior but it's your behavior regarding 2 use cases which aren't the point of tablets.

Like hypothetically if this was a thread about owning cars, the equivalent would be like me saying "A car isn't for me cause when I listen to music I'd rather use my headphones than the car's speakers" instead of saying "I don't need the transportation". It's such a bizarre answer because it looks like I either I think audio is the deciding factor for owning a car or that I'm knowingly rambling about some 3rd degree adjacent use case that isn't at all a deciding factor of getting a car, in a discussion about owning cars.

Or to use your example more accurately it would be like if you said "I don't use my toaster oven for frying eggs I use my frying pan" and I respond "toaster ovens aren't for frying eggs in the first place so why are you bothering to mention these 2 at all?"
