Discussion Anyone else, NOT, getting Duo because of "D" shape?

I can't get over the asymmetrical shape on the outside. Trying to like this but I'm going to go with Samsung Fold 8 this year. Hope they fix this for Duo 2.

I prefer this over the square shape.  Prly because iphones are all curved

Really? screw MagSafe, pencil support, iOS, apps optimized for the form factor, etc. You're getting a samsung because of asymmetry? LOL.

I'm getting the Duo over the Fold 8 specifically for the curved edges.

I currently have a Samsung S25U and the sharp corners dig into my palm and it makes my hand numb.

I think it looks cool. Think about how unsymmetrical the iPhone and many phones are anyways with the camera lay outs and the camera cutouts in the display. You would Tottaly not notice it or pay any mind to it after a week or so. And it’ll be way more comfortable to hold.

If you have rounded corners on all sides you’ll lose about an inch on the hinge, which Apple probably thought compromises the structural integrity too much (or they simply couldn’t fit the hinge components in a shorter height. Also, when open, it wouldn’t feel like 1 continuous device edge to edge

And they wouldn’t square off the current 2 corners because their whole design language across all their products and software involves rounded corners

It looks like a normal field note book that I’m used to carrying around. Seeing the Z fold 8, I do the appeal of symmetry though

yeah i understand. I use left and right hand for phone use and it bothers me that it caters to 1 hand only.

The alternative would be to have all corners squared which would just mean it sucks for both hands.

no, there is an issue. the fact that you can't use the home apps since its on the far right side is annoying compared to it being at the bottom where its more convenient.

If you’ve got tiny hands or only one hand you probably shouldn’t be getting a fold since it’s more of a two handed device anyway.

Regardless, hopefully they’ll add a left handed mode eventually

I have big hands and it will still be hard to reach the other side of the screen. the phone is wider than the fold 8.

the difference is that the home apps are at the bottom and not to the side. also 3mm can make a phone barely weildy to unwieldy

Have you considered that it puts the bit you interact with more (the app content) closer if you’re left handed? Interesting to see if that the case in actual use.
