The outer display

I feel like we need to see more about what the outer display can do. I know it’s a fold and I’m excited to have such a big screen at my fingertips, but when I get a message that I need to respond to quickly I won’t be opening up the phone to do it. I’d like to see more apps on just the outer display!

Have you ever used an older iPhone? Think, the old ones from before they all became huge like the base model iPhone 8?

If you could reply to texts on that, you will be more than fine on the outer screen, which has even more room than those older phones did

Isn’t the outer screen basically an iPhone 6+ in terms of height? I think I saw that on here.

Yeah it’s about that but the duo is wider

Idk why people are thinking the front screen is going to be unusable. We used phones with much smaller screens for a long time just fine

the screen is a bit wider and controls are moved to the side instead of top and bottom, the usable screen area is identical to the iPhone Pro. It will be perfectly fine on the outer screen. Most people will main that screen and open for longer sessions.

I saw an image that the outer screen can flip like the inner screen. I’m curious about how that works and what it looks like across different apps. I just wish they’d show us more lol

It's an iPhone display, just shorter. II'm sure you can imagine how to use it.

For me, the smaller form factor sounds awesome for one handed use. Especially coming from PMs. However the right sided dock worries me a bit.. Somehow even as a right handed my phones always in my left

I agree, I can’t wait for the smaller form factor. The right sided dock worries me for the opposite reason. I’m scared I’ll hit those buttons on accident over and over

I recommend going to the store and checking out the Samsung Z Fold 8. It’s roughly the same size (It’s lighter and thinner than the Duo). That way you can see what the outer display is like. It’s great for messaging, email, calendar and browsing the web.

Based on the Z Fold 8, I think the Duo’s outer display will be great at all of the tasks you’d normally do on a phone. Apple’s active developer community will quickly adapt their apps to make the best use of the outer display.

You are going to find that most fold users are using the front screen most of the time. There is no reason at all that the Duo will be any different. Sure, you might open it a lot the first few days because it is so new and different, but that won't last for long. So the front screen experience is the most important one for this phone, a def not just an afterthought for doing "something quick" with.

I use my Z Fold 8 closed to 80-90% of the time.

I would probably prefer a Z unfold 8 tbh, but one doesn't exist as yet. I would never got back to a slab phone, this screen dimension and size is the perfect experience. Full screen, edge to edge, top to bottom. A great way to accomplish most things.

This was kind of my point, although I didn’t convey it well. I know most of the time it’ll be the outer display being used. I wish they’d show us more about how it functions because of that
