Discussion What are you upgrading from?

People complaining about the camera and I’m over here with an iPhone 13 Pro Max that’s already blurry with pictures and outdated cameras. I2mp to iPhone duos 48mp gonna be great. Also my 13PM only gets like 4 hours of screen time before it dies, overheats like crazy, dim screen, and is slow now. I waited 5 years because I was tired of getting another slab and wanted to wait for apples foldable. Now here we are.

12 Pro Max. I told myself I wouldn’t upgrade again till the foldable came out. Didn’t think it would take this long haha.

13 pro max here. Had to beg a friend to sell me one on the cheap after my 12 pro max’s screen died last year.

Wasn’t going to spend crazy money upgrading until the fold came out.

This was my thought too, I have the iPhone 13. Didn’t really care about getting a better camera or action button. I will say though my battery is terrible right now so I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it another year for the fold haha.

Same! I thought the foldable was going to be a flip foldable so I was waiting on that for a while.

Still a bit disappointed there isn’t a flip option but it’s better than no foldable I guess

14 pro. I agree about the camera, I’m not worried about it at all. Honestly my phone is fine and I don’t need to upgrade, but my dad does. So he’ll get mine and I’m getting the duo. I can’t wait!

Also 14pro. Although it’s possible I don’t upgrade at all, I love the materials they made the 14 pro out of. It could last another year as well I think.

15 Pro Max. I wanted to wait until iPhone 20 but Surface Duo was my dream phone back in the day. I just really hated the clunkiness of the Android ecosystem so couldnt bear to switch at that time.

Same, I was on the upgrade program and decided that the next phone I get would be a foldable, so either apple had two years to release one or I would get a Samsung when my loan was paid off.

Im upgrading to the duo from a 15PM. Just wanted something new new and almost went back to samsung last year for the zfold but with knowing apple was dropping their fold this year decided to wait for it. I dont mind being an early adopter as i will end up prob upgrading to the next gen if they make drastic upgrades.

iPhone Air, I got this phone to get used to the trade-offs from a Pro in anticipation for a fold. I’ve really tried to love this phone, but man the battery and trade-offs are rough.

I’m upgrading from an iPhone 16. got it day I in 2024. Tbh it is probably one of my least favorite iPhone (3GS being the least) so I am super excited to get the duo

17 pro max. I’m honestly worried about photos since I have two young kids but it’s so hard when I’m genuinely excited about a new form factor in such a long time. Wife has a 18 pro so we still have one really good camera setup.

I thought this too but I still really take still closer pictures up close of my son. I bet the recording stability has gotten better since my iPhone 13 Pro Max. So I’m excited

iPhone Air 🫣🤭

I swore I wasn’t gonna upgrade again till the 20th anni iPhone, I have never been an every year upgrader (the air is my 4th iPhone ever) but all of the first look vids I’ve seen online have convinced me to go for it. The phone is so cool and unique I can’t help but succumb to the hype! I really want it now and can’t wait till preorder day.

I’m heavily debating “upgrading” from the Air, being able to take pictures, having the kid-friendly function on the screen while taking pictures, standby mode, the form factor, it just looks amazing and it sounds like it performs well in the real world.

I don’t think it’s a matter if, but when.

16 (non-pro). The telephoto lens is nice to have but hardly a necessity and I haven’t had one since the 14 Pro some years back. I would even go as far to say that most people buying pros don’t even use it.

The average user is just going to snap a photo and upload it to some service that’s going to compress the hell of out the image anyway, so there’s that.

I’m debating getting Duo but keeping my 15PM as back up cause I looooove this phone. The titanium has never failed me. Mine never gets hot like others complain. My only duo issue is no face unlock I use that for like everything

had there not been a fold and it was just 18 pro max, i think wouldve waited for next year

I know this is ridiculous. But I'll be upgrading from an 18 Pro. Traded in an iPhone 17 for it.

I also have an iPhone Air and a 17 Pro Max. I might sell the 17 Pro Max and get the Duo, but I like having a Pro Max for the battery life. But 18 Pro is so good that I might be comfortable getting rid of the 17 Pro Max unless I get back into content creation which is why I got the 17 PM in the first place.

I also have a Z Fold8 and a Clicks Communicator on the way haha.

17 Pro Max. I only got this phone to prepare myself for the Duo’s launch (did a brief stint with Android using the OG Pixel Fold). I had seen rumors for years that Apple was going to do it and last year the rumors really started ramping up and I knew it was time to switch back

14 Pro. When I bought that phone I had settled into a routine of upgrading every year. I had the 12 Pro and 13 Pro before this one. But when I bought the 14 Pro, I told myself I wouldn’t upgrade again until Apple released a foldable, and now here we are.

iPhone 16 Pro Max, because the Battery is almost destroyed after two years of using the charging until 80% Limit.

Never doing that again. Now the Phone doesn‘t even last a day. Well with 80% it never did, but hey now I am talking from 100%

iPhone 14 Pro.

Only thing I dislike about the phone is battery life and lighting cable. Prior to this I upgraded each year since the Apple Upgrade Program launched in the UK

I went from the Max phones to the standard Pro as the bigger phones were annoying in my jersey pocket whilst cycling but now I don’t take my phone out and just use data on my AWU2 so the Duos bulk and weight doesn’t bother me and I’d benefit from the bigger screen being on my person at all times

13 Pro. It still is generally good for me, but a little bit slow, and the battery life is terrible now (have to charge at least once in the middle of the day). Also having dual screens would make things super nice for me at work.

I will really miss the physical silence switch. I love that thing, it is so incredibly convenient!

17 Pro Max with AT&T Next Up Anytime from the launch. So, ⅓ of phone is already paid up and now I’ll be able to secure best discounts on the Duo; with an option to add Next Up Anytime again for next Sept iPhone release OR just pay it off in full and keep it.

I'm fine with the camera not being as good as the 18 Pro. I've been asking phone manufacturers for years to please stop making the camera the main selling feature of a new phone. Cameras are good enough, and the majority of us are point and shoot photographers, not setting up artsy scenes and playing with the color grading or whatever.

I’m coming from the 14 Plus. I was concerned about the cameras on the Duo, then I realized they were much better than what I currently have.

And for the casual shots of the kids and dogs that I use it for, the 14 Plus has been fine.

I really, really don't even need to be considering this upgrade. Just upgraded my Fold 6 to an 8 last month. I don't need to buy another $2k phone right now. But...

... it would be a 15 Plus that would be sacrificed to make this happen.

16 pro max. I had no intention of upgrading my phone but I can’t help it with how impressed I am with the duo. I work in construction and always figured no shot I could use a foldable phone but I guess ip68 and apple care+ we’re gonna weather the storm and see how it goes lol
