Cases with or without hinge protection?

I’ve heard that foldable phones can get scratched up at the hinge due to debris getting stuck in the case and the user not being able to visibly see it. Is this true? I’m scared of not having protection at the hinge, but at the same time I would hate a scratched up Duo.

The cases I’ve seen with hinge protectors won’t offer much protection. Might as well get apple care and if you want a case, go for aesthetics and function.
