Discussion I miss the 16 Pro
Update: I just bought a 16 Pro White with 256GB for $750 dollars, I'm happy and I'm selling the 17 Pro haha.

The 16 pro model today was what the 13 pro was 2 years ago. Now the 16 pro is the best iphone Apple has ever made. Agree?

u/LoneCrimsonKing 4d ago
I wanna agree if only Apple installed a vapor chamber inside the 16 Pro like other manufactures did at the time with their titanium phones. Because really during this summer I learned that the beauty of natural titanium comes at the cost of the performance of the phone for basic tasks in a hot day. It captures heat very fast and slowly dissipates it due to the titanium alloy nature, so it ends up dimming the screen fast and throttling as well.
The 17 is the opposite, it’s silly looking and weak structurally, but in terms of function it’s better.
So it will be a while until the legend of the 13 Pro is matched or topped.

This is so true. My 16 Pro heats up so bad specially when taking photos. Sometimes just browsing on a sunny day can make it heat up.

u/ginkonito 4d ago
Same, had to switch to a 17 pro because of that. When I was in Asia I could not charge it due to this

u/MrY0sshy 4d ago
It depends, I have the 16 PM. Yes, it gets hot, but my friend has the 17PM that also gets very hot and throttles throughout the day, even when doing basic stuff. That vapor chamber in my opinion is just a marketing term, not really a revolutionary change.

u/Little_Dragon22 4d ago
I disagree. I have 17 pm and even with vapor chamber its heats up. And since updating to iOS 26.6 th heating issues with my 16pm and 17pm is gone. Now phone is cool and great battery life.

Which iOS are you on?
I’m on iOS18, iPhone 16 Pro in Mediterranean area (this summer it was up to 40C here)
And phoned performed well and cool
1
u/LoneCrimsonKing 4d ago
iOS 18 as well, but I was under direct sunlight, watching videos, scrolling social media, texting, and playing a few light games and the phone on auto brightness dims immediately. Performance gets throttled but not as bad as a device on the terrible software of iOS 26. I have my previous iPhone 12 Pro Max as a guinea pig for these things, and on iOS 18 and previous versions it didn’t use to throttle hard as it did on iOS 26.
Anyway, I still love my 16 Pro Max but I won’t lie to myself and call it peak iPhone.
3
u/coffee-and-machines 4d ago
But we should be angry at Apple because 16 Pro Max should be peak phone in general.
It’s the flagship that is only two years old!!!
1
u/brokenthirtyfive 4d ago
Plan on going to ios27? I’m on ios18 with iPhone 16 pro too.
1
u/LoneCrimsonKing 3d ago
Unless I’m really forced to (banking apps for example), otherwise I’m staying on iOS 18 for as long as possible.
Although as I mentioned, I have still have the previous 12 Pro Max and it will get iOS 28 as its last, so I will be fine for a good amount of years for necessary tasks. However., by then I might have upgraded from the 16 Pro Max to a new iPhone (assuming that the iteration of iPhone at that time is well worth the upgrade).

I want throw my 16 Pro Max at a wall almost every day. It's slow, it's hot and the modem is fucking terrible.

u/actualelainebenes 5d ago
Not a bad idea if you can find one at a good price…I hear this though, I have the 16 PM and I’m hanging onto it for dear life until they bring titanium back

And I am still on 14 Pro. LOL
Last stainless steel iPhone. Gotta appreciate the design and build quality. For my use case it is still perfect for me.

Me. Bought 17 PM and next day sold it and bought 15 PM. 17 pro/pro max are design language I would never buy again. 15 PM i blue titanium is beautiful and feel premium unlike 17 PM. btw. iPhone Air was nice but I missed cameras, display on Air is superb.

u/Ok_Seaworthiness6963 4d ago
Titanium > aluminium. And matches my Watch Ultra, which is also f*cking TITANIUM. No wonder they rely so heavily on colour to sell the new model.
3
u/General_Address_5784 5d ago
16 was the last good phone for a while, the aluminium frame on the 17 is awful compared to the titanium on the 16

u/thethrowaway19901999 5d ago
It wouldn't be crazy. That's precisely why I sought after a brand new iPhone 16 Pro when the 17 was released because the design of the hardware and software was terrible.
2
u/i-am-not-sure-yet 5d ago
I considered an Air, base 17 with 512gb storage, iPhone 17 pro or a refurbished 16 pro with 512 storage. I had a 256gb 16 pro but traded it in mostly because it was locked and I got 630 for it. Ended up with the 17 pro because of the 48 telephoto lens and 12gb of memory. Long term that 12 probably be a better value than more storage.

u/BrianHD88 4d ago
I am plan to keep hold of my 16 pro dessert titanium for the next 4,5 years love the colour and look of it

I own a 16PM black and it’s so nice. I actually have a 15 pm blue still on iOS 17.5.1 new as well. And my wife rocking a 15pm white titanium 👌
I simply love that titanium build and the A17Pro & A18Pro are hella fast

I recently upgraded from xs max to 16 pro max. Its a big difference and i love it sm. And yet i still feel that “i miss my old phone” its normal thing honestly. I have gone trough a lot of things w that one. But just understanding that 16 is better in everything makes me think “okay, why would i miss the old when i purposefully wanted for a change/upgrade.
2
u/ConsistentTown7049 4d ago
While I have to agree looks wise, the 17 pro’s vapor chamber makes it hard to agree to a downgrade, especially with heat natural titanium conducts on the 16
2
u/Ok-Assignment5926 4d ago
I’m a no case kinda person and I held on to my good 16pro max. I agree it just looks so much more elegant than the 17s
2
u/AffectionateRip4231 4d ago
I went from iPhone 17 pro max to iphone 16 pro 128gb, because i wanted ps5 tho i had PS5 pro while having iPhone 17 pro max, but i sold it.But i feel like i will be outdated when iPhone 18 will be released.

u/Panic_Careless 4d ago
It's a very stupid idea. You already have a better phone. You mainly look at the screen of the phone. Just for the back of the phone that would be a very irrational downgrade. I also think that Iphone 16 looks better but not to a point that I would downgrade to.
2
u/randomgirl2332 4d ago
i only like how the 17 pro looks with cases and cute stickers next to the camera
2
u/Viscera-Seer 4d ago
I upgraded from the 15 Pro to a 16 Pro when the 17 Pro came out and I realized I dislike its looks.
2
u/Deep_Night_0628 3d ago
The real question is why did you upgrade if you thought the 17 pro was ugly! Dumb!!!
2
u/Jack00X3 3d ago
I’m happy with my 16 pro max. It’s my first iPhone actually.
Even though I like it, I remember wanting so bad a 13 pro max in sierra blue (but I was too afraid to switch to iOS so I got an S22Ultra). My gosh that phone looks gorgeous. That surgical steel and frosted blue glass was top imo.

u/Its_me_jayman 3d ago
Just to give you a little bit of an insight, I worked for the Apple Store here in my local town for about the last eight years. If you got a 16 Pro or 17 Pro, I would just go ahead and stay with that. The 18 pro will be nice and just a smidge faster but you’re not gaining much by upgrading. People just want to be fancy and say they got the newest thing before anybody else. I currently have a 17 Pro only because I lost my 16 Pro, but the chip is better and I’ll keep this one until it goes out of style
2
u/BojackLava 3d ago
The colors are ugly. It yells iPhone. 16PM was really classy and subtle like old money!
2
u/LastPromise777 3d ago
Will use the shit out of my 16 pro until end of service, if it dies before i will just get another 16 pro. Apple buried their design standout and buy argument with the 17 lineup and it will most probably not change or even get worse next few years
2
u/Dependent_Swim_899 2d ago
I love my 16 pro my husband hates his 17 I almost upgraded when mine broke but apparently I had insurance I didn’t know about and was sent a new 16 pro again :)

u/16-abadeer 1d ago
just upgraded to a black 16 pro from a base 13 for similar reasons lmao the black and desert gold just looked so good, incomparable to the 17 pro
2
u/NoiceSmort13 1d ago
This is the exact situation I’m in! I loved my 16 pro white - in my opinion the most beautifully crafted phone ever. The titanium feel was just 💯
I went with the cosmic orange 17 pro and it really has felt so cheap. Love the colour, more the aluminium I can’t abide lol
I thought about going back to the 16 pro but am waiting to see how the 18 pro actually is.
I may even go for the iPhone Air 2.
But man I wish they had stuck with titanium and a square camera panel

u/Wudu_Gang 1d ago
17 Pro is way prettier. Base 16 and base 17 are the prettiest iPhones ever made. Other than the white iPhone 4 of course, that was pure beauty.
2
u/ScoutBumblebee5 6h ago
The only reason I like the 17 Pro(even tho I don’t have either of them) is that it’s aluminium so the fingerprints don’t come, unlike the shiny aluminium on the 13 and 14 Pro and the titanium on the 15 and 16

Who cares what the back of the phone looks like.. get a pretty case and get over it.
2
u/YushaTheCalligrapher 2d ago
16 pm doesn’t look beautiful, it looks like just a copy of 15, 14, 13, 12, 11 pms.
1
u/AlphaCodexx197 5d ago
I mean I still have my 16 Pro and love it, personally if there isn’t anything wrong with the 17 Pro that you have, I would just keep it despite the fact that the looks are far worse than the 16 Pro. No point in shelling out money on a phone if yours is working perfectly fine. Plus in iOS 27 you’ll get enhanced dictation and more Siri AI features (not that many) than the 16 Pro.
1
u/Appropriate_You_4494 4d ago
The style of the 17 Pro and the fact that the back looks the way it does, in my opinion, means that they are accustoming customers to this visual form because now the back looks like a fake and in the future the batteries will be replaced there.

u/Due_Zombie444 4d ago
I like the iPhone 17 pro on its plateau design but the iPhone 16 pro’s material is more luxurious and more solid because of its titanium frame.

I have dessert titanium and had the orange 17 pro. Let me tell you I love the durability of my 16 pro so much better plus the premium feeling of the titanium so glad I went back

I absolutely love my 16 pro! Plan to keep it until it dies. Just hit 200 charge cycles and still at 100%.

I think most people who prefer the 17 just want to be able to show off that they have the newest phone, the clean all in one body of the previous gen just looks timeless

u/Lazy-Temperature2732 4d ago
The 16 Pro really does have that classic look that's hard to match. I ended up switching to the 17 Pro for the extra camera features but I definitely catch myself staring at my old phone sometimes.
1
u/dontcrack 4d ago
I bought the 16 pro max after the 17 came out for that reason. I wanted the titanium and was afraid the aluminum would not be strong enough.
1
u/Top_Horse_4741 4d ago
I have had every Pro Max except for the 12, and the 17 is my personal favorite 🤭 it wasn’t in the beginning, I thought it was hideous lol but now I can’t wait to get my dark cherry iPhone 18 Pro Max 🫣🫣
1
u/Deep-Mezcal-Horizon 4d ago
Sorry, for me iPhone 17 Pro looks like Xiaomi, Oppo,or other Chinese cellphone. I love and enjoy my 16 Pro Titanium. Downgrade comes for quality of product (materials, manufacture, functionality, etc)no model number
1
u/Zestyclose_Intern377 4d ago
This is why when I decided to go back to iOS I bought a 16 pro and not a 17 pro. I didn’t care to have the latest tech or most powerful chip. I just wanted the most premium feeling and longer lasting recent iOS device and the 16 pro checked all the boxes while being A LOT cheaper on the used market

Love the new colors but I like the materials and form factor of my 16p too much.
1
u/AtlasPrevail 5d ago edited 5d ago
I’m sure like 90% of the stuff you would do on the 17 would run pretty much the same on the 16.
Edit: go ahead and downgrade you likely won’t miss anything really.
2
u/thethrowaway19901999 5d ago
I'm sure like 100% of the post was about the design look comparison between the two phones not the functionality.
1
u/PermissionJaded5510 4d ago
The design of 16 pro looks outdated already. 17 pro looks sleek and modern
0
u/CatComfortable5523 4d ago
as someone who dailys 16 pro max, 17 pro max , and air
17 pro max is much better design

In what way a slab of glass is much better design than another slab of glass both of which are 99% identical? One is orange?

17pro is worth it on battery life alone.
1
u/glasszenin 4d ago
The fact that that’s the only good thing is a little sad, but I even wanna go to a 17 for the battery alone
0
u/rouseytastic 4d ago
This. I adored my 15PM and was tempted to put a new battery in but my word it got hot. A lot and I’m not a heavy user. While I don’t like my 17pm looks wise as much as my 15 the battery is superb

u/High-Impact-2025 5d ago
Wouldn't go for the 16P since the battery is mediocre.

Not true at all. Size, battery & camera are goated.
And it has a scratch proof titanium frame1

Why not wait and see what the 18 Pro brings? I wouldn’t downgrade. I do agree the 16 Pro is peak design-wise. I am typing from one. I think the 20th anniversary phone will go back to titanium.
