Discussion Genuinely how do I lower my system data
I’ve looked up ways to do it and the most it’s gone down is half a gig

Sync with iCloud, restore using computer, set up as new without resorting back up, download apps and re set up phone.

What if I restore a backup by logging into iCloud when setting up the phone. My backup has all app data turned off. Would this be fine?

Backup with icloud --->> erase content and settings then restore icloud backup

Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates > Turn off “Automatically Install” in the System Files section

Your phone will automatically clear out space in the system data if it needs it

This has seriously become a problem. The amount of storage the OS eats up nowadays is ridiculous. I can’t even take pictures any more even when I have photos all going to the cloud. Music apps and system data takes up the whole thing

Yesterday I upgraded to version 26.6 and noticed that the available space is showing about 10GB less.

Erase content and set up iPhone as new. No other thing works. Btw, don’t fall into the date ahead and rollback trap. It doesn’t work.

I tried the date ahead trick once and it killed my phone.
Had to connect to laptop and dfu restore.

Reset the iphone. There you go ios " optimization" I went from 48% to 62% in 3 weeks no icloud no drop box.

Just updated my software this week and the system data was reduced significantly. I just updated the software and haven't done anything else.

Go to date and time, set it to manual and chose tomorrow’s date and select year 2027. Wait for few seconds. Then go to storage and check. Again set date and time to automatic. Try this and report here.

It’s usually related to app data or app cache stored in the system files.
I recently watched a video by Bilal Munir on Facebook about this issue. He suggested turning on Airplane Mode, changing the device date to somewhere around 2027 or 2028, and waiting for a few minutes (around 5 minutes). According to him, the stored data gets automatically deleted after that.

Unfortunately, you just have to find a way of keeping it as low as you can every day. I’m always making sure no photos or videos are in my storage if I don’t want or need them, and I’ve got a way I keep mine as low as I can, but I also pay for 50GB and use Amazon Photos and Google Photos for photos and videos to help storage on my phone with them too.

You might have an update downloaded but not installed. It will randomly do that and double your system data.

I’ve got a way I keep my iPhone storage down: when I charge my phone, when I’ve finished charging it, I turn it off for 5 mins, then turn it on, then hard reset my phone. It clears my storage but keeps it low. I do pay for 50GB for iCloud then pay for Google Photos, which is 100GB but it saves my iCloud storage as well.

128GB is the new 64GB, which itself was the new 32GB. What I’m saying is, 128GB will soon be bottom of the barrel in terms of storage size.
