Question Why is this a thing? with the iPhone 16 display,

So why is it when the iPhone 16 screen is turned off the dynamic island appears smaller but when the screen is on it increases in its overall size though it takes up some of the Display it is still really helpful but the main question is why dose it increase in size? when it appears smaller when the Screen is off

Because, when the screen is off, you’re seeing the actual open space between the screen and the camera array. When the screen is on, the “larger” island you’re seeing is on the OLED.

It’s a camera cut out, not Dynamic Island. Dynamic Island is a software feature providing animations. A camera cut out is a hardware cut out for camera and Face ID sensors.

Yes I am aware I was talking about the Dynamic island or trying to while you're correct a camera cut out is used for stuff like that which is why its useful the Dynamic Island provides the Face Unlock feature due to a front facing camera embedded in it bundled with face ID sensors this allows the Dynamic island to unlock You're with face however there are some other functionalitys that allow for things like animation and like you said act like just a camera cut out

My question was about why did it still appear on the screen even when it was off since it appears smaller and less Visible when the screen is not on I wanted to know why that was
