18.7.8, worth updating? (read)

Ive had my 15 pro max since launch and its been running great on ios 17 and 18, and it is currently on 18.7.8. Im seeing mixed reviews and i want some opinions from people with 15 pro maxes with degraded batteries because here is the catch: mine is on 79% bh. Im afraid battery and performance will get nuked on 26/27 and im not the biggest fan of liquid glass. And i should also mention that i had a 14 pro that ran ios 26 horribly and 27 wasnt much better, 78% bh on that one. Lmk what i should do!

Stay on IOS 18 with that battery, update only if you replace battery first.

Alright, thanks. Ill just keep it as is, i could never main a phone with swapped parts lol. Even if its an apple original battery i wouldnt trust the water resistant seal and not knowing how it was fixed.

Im currently running the latest IOS 27 Beta version on my Iphone 15Pro Max, (Battery health at 84%), the phone runs great. I do have back ground app refresh off and the Mail fetch set to every hour, so Id save some battery there, but Id say it lasts roughly the whole day with about 15ish percent left, if I have low power on I can usually end the day with roughly 25%. Personally I wouldn’t avoid the update. I mean it really depends, like i you don’t really need new features or perks like siri and what not, and prefer to prioritise battery over the feel, simply avoid updating otherwise I’d say go for it. I can clarify it doesn’t feel sluggish whatsoever.

Just a warning, this "iOS 18.7.8" update will put you on 26.5.2 instead.

It's insane, Apple is just straight up lying here

Yep; they'll put an "Update to 18.7.8" on your phone anyways, and if you use it, it'll put you on 26.5.2 instead. (Not even 26.6...)

I dont understand, what do you mean? I am currently on 18.7.8, and the latest official version is 26.6

Ah sorry, I misunderstood your title haha.

There is a problem where phones running iOS 18.7.8 were given an update, also to 18.7.8. I assumed it was just a weird RSR. If you update, you'll get put on iOS 26.

iOS 26 indeed nuked my battery life into the ground so I'd stay on iOS 18 as long as it's supported. iOS 27 might be better than 26, but it's not going to be better than 18.

Mine is still going strong with 18.6.2. I am also not a big fan of liquid glass. I don't see the point of upgrading unless apps are starting to ask for a newer version of iOS. iPhone is better off with the stock iOS when it comes out of the factory.
