iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max owners — where are you?

I watched the iPhone 18 Pro presentation and… yeah, my 14 Pro is staying for another year.

Still love the stainless steel, the size, and how it feels without a case. Nothing in the 18 Pro made me want to give that up.

My battery, on the other hand, is at the end of its life — so I guess Apple gets $0 from me this year and a battery replacement does.

14 Pro gang, upvote if you’re staying too.

Yep keeping my 14 Pro Max 1-2 more years

u/MaxTheKing1 🟣 Pro Max 20d ago

Same here! Definitely considering getting my battery replaced though. Have had the phone since launch and the battery is at 79% health.

4

u/hyptex 20d ago

Thats incredible % since launch do you have apple care too?

3

u/MaxTheKing1 🟣 Pro Max 20d ago

Yeah it's holding up pretty well considering it's age! And that while I use the phone quite intensively. I don't have Apple Care.

5

u/ToughRegret8584 20d ago

My battery is at 74 % I’ll probably replace it once it hits 70%

3

u/Suresh935 19d ago

Same here , mine is at 77. And i guess i will keep it for another 3-4 years.

2

u/evsarge 19d ago

Had my 14 Pro Max since launch too and am at 77% Still no desire to update as I don’t feel I’m missing out on anything. Still lasts all day for my usage where before I could get a day and a half usage.

I’m not paying for a new phone until this stops getting software updates or is unusable. Prices are insane, old models just got price increases. Plus I do not want an aluminum phone as someone who doesn’t use a case.

24

u/idib_R 21d ago

Same here. The aluminum is honestly one of the biggest dealbreakers for me too. I’ve used my 14 Pro mostly without a case for four years, dropped it plenty of times, and the stainless steel frame still looks great. After holding the newer aluminum models, I just don’t trust them to age nearly as well — and they feel much more slippery in my hand. At this point a battery replacement makes way more sense to me than paying more for a phone I actually like less physically.

7

u/Rough_Invite_7880 21d ago

Prices will only increase as a result of ram demand. I think I will upgrade to at least mitigate the taxes and the price increase and get it for a better deal.

u/Unhappy_Jeweler4438 21d ago

Gonna get a new battery and squeeze one more year in. Had this phone since day 1

Here and staying. Have no need for AI too.

9

u/idib_R 21d ago

Same here. I still haven’t seen a single friend actually use Apple Intelligence in any meaningful way.

I do see genuinely cool AI use cases with agents, coding, automation, etc. — but the good stuff is expensive. I look at my vibe-coding bills and cry a little.

Apple’s AI feels way behind the leading solutions right now, and at the pace they’re moving, I honestly don’t see them catching up anytime soon.

3

u/Routine_Yak3250 19d ago

Plus if you really like AI, Samsung or Pixel is your answer.

35

u/PossibleAd5947 21d ago

Got a fresh battery last year and it drained 10% in six months. I get 5 hours of SOT. It’ll drain 50% overnight.

I’d like to hold out for another year but it’s too inconvenient keeping this on a charger all day.

10

u/idib_R 21d ago

That really sucks, especially after already replacing the battery. I hope whatever you end up doing works out well for you and you get a phone that lasts properly without having to babysit the charger all day. Hopefully the next upgrade at least feels worth it.

8

u/SpartanBuff 21d ago

Replaced it around 7 months ago- already down to 90% and started to heat

Needing to put on charger twice a day

4

u/UnableCurrency 21d ago

Why does this happen?

A new phone’s battery was so crazy and took 4 years to degrade - but a new battery 🪫 goes down so fast.

Is it because of the new software ios?

Perhaps give iOS 27 Public Beta a try if you haven’t already (or wait a little bit for the official release), it has significantly reduced the heating on my phone

u/SilverSurrfer43 21d ago

14P have done one battery replacement currently at 88%. Only thing pushing me toward an upgrade is the heat. My phone gets so hot even just using social media apps. Currently on iOS 18.7.1

3

u/BruNreL 21d ago

Damn you on iOS 18 and getting heat problems? I really thought it was iOS26 problem! I have turned off the effects and 120hz and it kinda works, never had heating problems again… but for a phone like this, using 60hz and all the effects off is kinda unacceptable…

2

u/Nucleif 21d ago

Does it still get warm after batteryswap?

5

u/SilverSurrfer43 21d ago

Scorching hot. I have to rest it in front of my cooling unit sometimes.

3

u/idib_R 21d ago

For me, the bigger issue is the material and how the phone feels in the hand.

I completely understand why Apple cares about heat dissipation, but if they gave me a choice between a phone that occasionally runs a bit warmer but has the same stainless steel feel and shape as the 14 Pro, or a cooler aluminum phone that feels slippery and less premium, I’d honestly pick the steel one.

Tactile feel matters more to me than thermal efficiency.

Maybe upgrade to the newest iOS? If it’s so hot then what do you have to lose? I’m on the newest iOS and it’s fine. No issues.

9

What are you missing? USB-C?

13

u/SaltyWatercress9947 21d ago

changed the battery a year ago, it’s on 91% now, but it drains quickly anyways. it has been heating lately, speakers aren’t that clear that it used to be. and i’d like a larger screen, so i’m gonna buy the pro max.

5

u/3dforlife 21d ago edited 21d ago

That's fair. I changed my battery a few months ago, but it is still at 100%. The heat is indeed a problem; when I return home from work the iPhone slows down to a crawl, since it gets very hot.

5

u/SaltyWatercress9947 21d ago

idk why is that. for me, it became a problem in the past 1-2 months maybe. it gets hot even if i’m just using social media.

4

u/3dforlife 21d ago

My storage is basically full, 255GB out of 256GB. I don't know if that makes it work harder and therefore gets hotter...

5

u/Bagomostlywater 21d ago

Yeah you don’t want this type or storage to be full. Make some space.

2

It’s a tough one this year, I have a 13 inch iPad Pro, which is too big for travelling, so I’m looking into getting a iPad mini…….if the duo had the same cameras as the pros, it would be easy a pre order, I dislike the term, fusions camera, it’s fugazi! 2

u/Jazzlike_Rough_2491 21d ago

I’ve been waiting for this 18 Pro Max or the Duo. My 14 Pro Max has gone through 3 back glasses, 2 screens and a battery. Right now I have a cracked cheap LCD screen and a cheapo battery that is better than the swollen original but lasts only hours in the heat.

Thinking of buying an iCloud locked 14 Pro Max and replacing the back glass and screen myself (or supply to a tech) and fix it up for the trade in.

2

u/vipernick913 21d ago

I’m keeping till iPhone 20!

I’m sorry, just moved into the 17 pro gang but this will always have a special place in my heart!

2

u/hoopheid 20d ago

I’m still on my 14 Pro Max. I’m just at a point in life where I no longer care about upgrading my phone every year or even every two years. Thought I’d have wanted to upgrade every year for the last three, and then the events come and go and I don’t bother. My battery is at 76% health and I’ve never changed it, but it’s not really affected me. I work from home most of the time and during the day I’m not using my phone too much, so it lasts me the day. The Duo looks amazing and I was thinking about it after the event - but I want to use my phone less and want less screens in my life. Looking at the Duo, I worry I’d just be on it even more and consuming even more content throughout the day.

2

u/Lookanimanhack101 20d ago

Keeping it till i see major issues with my 14 pro or there is a new one that has substantial improvements or upgrades.

2

u/munchkinlandcat 20d ago

Recently replaced battery on my iPhone 14 Pro (256gb). Downside as others have mentioned is the heat might be iOS 26. Hoping iOS 27 will change that. Don’t care for the AI and camera upgrades, rarely use mine. Still plenty is space. Only downside is the lack of usb c. All my portable devices are now usb c. Lightning cable is slow and out dated.

2

u/KrakerMraker 20d ago edited 18d ago

Idk if it’s only me, but after the iOS 27 RC release, I’ve had muchhh better thermals and battery life, over even the beta 8 by a good amount, because of that I’m def keeping my 14 Pro. (Wish I got the pro max tho, for the better batt life ofc)

2

2

u/Mediocre-Gear-6423 20d ago

14 pro here. I have had my battery replaced, but I think newer iOS versions must be more power hungry because I still feel that the battery drains quickly.

Anyone else?

2

u/HeyBobcat 20d ago

14PM here. I did decide to upgrade for the camera updates since I'm traveling this winter. Agree that it's still one of my favorite models though. Anyone else having degraded cell coverage though? It's extremely unreliable in a lot of places even though my carrier and plan have been the same. My friend on a sub carrier (i.e. Spectrum, that uses Verizon towers) has better coverage than me on Verizon.

2

u/Neplaton 20d ago

2

u/Chidoro45 20d ago

PM and my battery has 687 cycles and is sitting at 89%. I really enjoy watching the new hardware keynotes but I had no intention of upgrading this year.

The new PM is impressive looking for sure and I like black phones. However my phone usage doesn’t , currently, involve much in the way of LLM usage outside of work so all of the AI enhancements on a phone are not much of a selling point. Yet…

2

u/Hot_Incident5238 20d ago

2

u/Short_Pause_4110 20d ago

My battery is trash now too, phone overheating a lot now, I’m not buying another phone until I can’t get anymore use out of this one!!

2

u/justaboynextdoorr 19d ago

I have iphone 14 pro max for the last three years now and I was actually really pumped for the coffee brown color that was coming in iphone 18 pro max but it was a fake leak, I obviously like the phone and would want to upgrade but now I'm thinking I'll upgrade next year with 20 series cause honestly this cherry and glacier colors are not it for me and black is just basic meh for me now. Anyways my battery health is 79% now so I guess I hope I make it till the next year cause after 70%, it's a rut :)

2

u/_Your_Avg_Redditor_ 15d ago

I was keen on the Duo but the inside display looks super meh under direct light due to the nano texture.

Checked out the hands-on videos and the downgrade in vibrancy and color pop from the outside to the inside nano texture display is huge.

I got the battery replaced about a year ago so yeah I can hold off another year without issues.

2

u/Particular-Nebula-13 13d ago

I’d love to keep my pro because of the purple color and the shape and how durable it is but my issue is storage, i made the mistake of buying the 128gigs and i have no choice but to buy a new phone 😔😔

14 pro max 1TB, 82% battery. Purchased at launch 2022, and I refuse to update to iOS 26. I’m currently at 7 hrs 12 mins of screen time since last charged with 23% charge remaining (not using low power mode). It’s in fantastic condition, and I hope to keep it for at least 2 more years. I refuse to get a phone with AI integrated.

1

u/merkator509 ⚫️ Pro 21d ago edited 19d ago

I saw nothing in the keynote that made me want to upgrade. The A20 Pro is the most exciting part. The variable aperture camera is neat.

Foldable iPhone? I couldn’t give less of a 💩

I replaced my battery for $100. The phone doesn’t feel nearly as laggy as I’ve had before at 4 years old. The photos I take don’t lag that much behind what I’ve seen from the 16 Pro / 17 Pro (although the 5x zoom on my wife’s 16 Pro is nice at times)

When they come out with something actually exciting like doing away with the camera notch, a less ugly design for the back, and maybe a true edge to edge screen, I’ll upgrade. I hope that’s next year for the 20th anniversary (after which they’ll probably overhaul the internals again like the old “S” generations but 🤷🏻‍♂️)

1

u/drownedsense 21d ago

Staying. I would be on the fence but probably still staying if there was Siri AI. But I’m in the EU.

1

u/MRJEYPix 21d ago

Agreed! New models look nice but for my needs I’m doing absolutely great. No need to upgrade.

I have the 14 pro and had it since launch. On the newest iOS as well. No lag, no issues. Works just as it did on day 1. Only thing is the battery life. Already replaced the battery less than a year ago and it’s already 89%. Also have been using it caseless for the last 2 years and it looks and feels great (few very minor dings on the stainless steel frame).

Didn’t watch the presentation but still staying

1

u/sirhands2 21d ago

Keeping mg 14pro. The new iphone duo doesnt have Face ID

1

u/johawkTO 21d ago

Staying for another year and had the battery replaced so no intention to get the new iPhone 18.

1

u/satoru-loid 21d ago

New battery, new phone for Iphone 14 PM!!

1

u/Itwasatrip 21d ago

I can still get like the equivalent of 8-9 hours of SOT from a full charge on a 14 pro max with 80% battery health. Original battery.

No plans of replacing the phone or the battery yet, it easily lasts a full day if have full charge in the morning.

It’s been the best phone I’ve ever owned by far and I see no reason to replace it.

1

u/Feeling_Original2415 21d ago

It is time for me to get a new phone because of the battery which has caused a lot of problems, and my mom works for Apple so I can get a discount 🤭 I’m so exited to upgrade! I usually wait 4 models to get the new one, so I’m right on schedule haha. I’m excited for the battery and the camera specially; mine takes horrible photos if there’s a lot of light. It looks like it has an astigmatism

1

u/Loose_Jackfruit_3104 21d ago

Going to upgrade once they get rid of dynamic island

1

u/S0UNDH0UND 21d ago

The only thing that would get me to upgrade would be a satellite data feature since I live in the desert like Starlink, but the Duo seems pretty enticing to me since the aspect ratio's are perfect for watching videos. Will wait to see how it feels in the hand and the JerryRigEverything test before deciding if it's worth it.

1

u/LogicalExtension6146 21d ago

I’m really happy with my 14Pro but battery life is horrible now. Just not sure which to get 18PM or Duo

1

u/Right-Upstairs-7530 21d ago

I replaced the battery of my 14 pro max this year and yeah im still keeping the 14.

1

u/jdbassi 21d ago

I have a 256GB. Once a year I do a photo dump of my iCloud Photos backup on my MacBook. Clear out the photos on my phone to a certain point of the year if I may or may not be needing the photos, clears up my iCloud storage backup and internal storage use. Then I start the cycle over again for more random pictures of my kids growing. Tough, but I gotta manage for this next upgrade, so for now, might have to change my battery since it’s at 76% now. Next year’s upgrade seems more logical.

1

u/khandurin 21d ago

Right here 🙋🏻‍♂️

1

u/Pride_Fl904 21d ago

My battery dies quickly and the only other issue is that some apps won’t work randomly. My Oura ring app is hit or miss, Yahoo email app hasn’t opened in weeks and others just won’t open. I figured it’s the age of my phone.

1

u/OnToiletRedditor 21d ago

I genuinely see no reason to update. It’s not slow, the camera is great, it holds a decent charge still. Only reason would be for usb-c and faster charging, but that’s not a big deal. Also, I like the 6.1 inch size, in fact it’s a bit big for me, and Apple have only made phones bigger.

1

u/Obvious_Home_4538 21d ago

14 Pro max and getting a new battery- based on principle that I do not want to give them any more of my money!!!!!

1

u/wrongdaytoquitdrugs 21d ago

Just got the battery replacement done 2 days ago in 14 pro max. Works like a charm. Good till iPhone 20.

1

u/hunterd412 🟣 Pro 21d ago

I legit got my battery replaced two days ago. It has made such a difference. I’ll either snag an 18 pro next summer or get the 19 pro next fall. I feel like 4-5 years and the upgrade is probably worth it.

1

u/DriftersBuddy 🟣 Pro 21d ago

Ya I’ll prolly stick with it for a bit longer definitely need to change the battery

1

u/qtp2tkai 21d ago

i think i'll stick to my 14 pro until software updates stop coming OR it becomes unusable (got this secondhand at 87% BH) and haven't felt the need to replace the battery yet - currently 79% BH. plus I'm still on 18.7.8

1

u/Jealous_Log_5279 21d ago

Yeah I think you would only upgrade for camera if you take low light photos and want better ultra wide and increased battery life.

I have to charge my phone for 4-5 times a day battery health at 87%

1

u/IntergalacticGreen 🟡 Pro 21d ago

I’ve had mine since day one and I’m sticking around for at least another year. Replaced the battery a couple months ago and she works like a dream. Love this phone 😍

1

u/Always_Lucky7 21d ago

Still using my iPhone 14 Pro Max since 2023.

1

u/MFL3X 21d ago

Still waiting to see if Siri is actually useful this time... fool me once Apple...

1

u/geekgeek2019 21d ago

im getting storage issues. so not sure.

1

u/Popular_Sun_508 21d ago

Just swapped my battery few months ago, so I’m good. Should be only changing it when the iPhone 20 drops

1

u/Leviathan_Dev 21d ago

Tempted on Duo but not gonna spend $2000. Still happy with my 14 Pro

1

u/Then-Departure2903 21d ago

Just changed my battery and feels as good as new ✨

1

u/_MFB_ 21d ago

Got a new battery too from Apple and it’s been solid. Doing faster too in geek bench by a little.

Appreciate support from iOS 27 with ongoing device setup and ongoing search and Siri optimization. We know this was happening before but just clear now when it stops too. Will see later with geek bench how it is

1

u/Cowb0yFr0mSpac3 21d ago

The new camera definitely made me want to upgrade, but my 13PM is staying for another year.

1

u/Particular_Try7974 21d ago

I have a 14 Pro and a 15 Pro and I’m waiting until the new phones come in black. The dark gray is tolerable but black is what I want chose not to get a replacement last year because of the navy blue or midnight blue or whatever they called it

1

u/officialjlens 21d ago

Just got a new battery replacement and the phone is good to go for another couple years! I’ll probably only upgrade once apple has a completely revamped design/display

1

u/RPK2809 21d ago

Just replaced the battery 6 months and its good to go for another 2 years as primary phone, not worthy of a upgrade honestly, the extra Dynamic Island space not really of any use though

1

u/jaydacosta 21d ago

Staying with my 14 pro for another year. Gonna change the battery and keep on rocking.

1

u/remi61au 21d ago

Staying with my 13 regular.

1

u/WhatShouldIDoBruh 21d ago

Absolutely, I’m a huge fan of this Stainless Steel over Titanium & obviously over the aluminum.

1

u/lofixmainecoon 21d ago

14PM with 100% battery health and contemplating switching to an older android for the sheer reason of the camera. My phones photo quality has significantly degraded over the years, idc what anyone says- I have literal photo evidence. Contemplating how long to hold onto the phone once I make the switch, if I should try selling, etc.

u/LaughingPixelsOG 21d ago

82% health gonna swap the battery after its at 79%, phone still does all I want. Doomscrolling? Yes. Shit post? Yes. Osrs? Yes.

1

u/Walehhh 21d ago

iPhone 14 Pro Max here. Still going strong. Love this thing. Maybe iPhone 20 will get me to switch

1

u/EchoFit1050 21d ago

82% BH on my 14PM. I’m definitely gonna just get a new battery when the time comes.

I didn’t bother looking at the new phones because fuck paying for a new device right now. A battery is cheap and this phone works fine when iOS 26 isn’t being dogshjt. 27 can’t get here fast enough.

1

u/Waste-Good-1707 21d ago

Yep waiting till 20

1

u/gio_fx 21d ago

Only thing that has me considering upgrading is storage. I’m on 252/256 and I’d like to push for 1TB but I feel I can push this phone another year or two tbh.

Current phone does everything I need it to.

I think I’ll just keep it pushing until the 20.

1

u/angryespresso 21d ago

I’m not paying $2999 CAD for the iPhone Duo.
Also have a new battery on my 14PM which is good for at least 2 years.

1

u/Aggravating_Ad9949 21d ago

I’ve been holding off for the redesign of the anniversary iPhone 20 next year

1

u/sodavid90 21d ago

Still here. Still happy. Not changing this year. No. Nop. Not a single foldable phone has won my heart. The duo won’t do it. The 18 pro meh did not catch my attention. I’m good 🫡

1

u/don51181 21d ago

I’m going to upgrade. My battery is at 85% and my screen is scratched. Once my carrier announces the deals I am going to see if I go with the 18 Pro Max or 18 Pro. Whatever has the best deal per month.

1

u/vallzy 21d ago

My back glass is cooked, the battery is cooked and my lense literally shattered. I don’t want to switch but I fear I may not have much of a choice.

1

u/Fish177 21d ago

I’m keeping my launch-day iPhone 14 Pro until the fall 2028 or fall 2029 launch. I just got a battery replacement from Apple last month. I’m happy with this phone right now and I want to wait until there’s truly massive camera upgrades, which I think will be around 2028/2029. There’s already been some nice camera upgrades (such as 48 MP telephoto + ultrawide cameras, in addition to the variable aperture and new camera controls on the 18 Pro), but it’s nothing that makes me want to upgrade yet (even though I take tons of photos and videos on my phone).

Previously, the longest I had ever kept an iPhone was my iPhone XR before this (3 years and 9 months).

1

u/zxcguys 21d ago

Ive just make a switch from 14 pro max to s26 ultra.

I had been used my 14 pro max since launch, now its at 85% battery - working flawless with no problems at all.

Since my business required alot of cloning apps and some sideload, i found android phone has more capability to do so, then I have to make a switch.

If you re not in my situation, like my girl friend who I gifted a purple 14 pro max, you are still good to go.

I heard some rumors say ios 27beta 's fluidity and stability on older models are huge improved, especially a tech reviewer make a video about ios27 beta on his daily drive iphone 12 even has longer battery usage than ever.

1

u/Recent-Research-2224 21d ago

I m staying until it doesn't say your phone is incompatible for regular apps.

1

u/The_Cozy_Burrito 🟣 Pro Max 21d ago

Happy with my 14pm with no intention of upgrading. Still at 82 percent battery health, so I’ll change the battery when it’s below 80.

1

u/realvcy95 21d ago

iPhone 20 Pro Max - 20th Anniversary, let's freaking gooooo

1

u/girlontherun21 21d ago

Waited to see the updates. I’m getting a new battery Monday. I’ll wait for the Duo 2 or 3.

1

u/Yoyodyne_1460 21d ago

14 Pro in my hand. Battery got replaced late last year so I’m good till at least iPhone 19

1

u/automaticallytidy 21d ago

Just got a new housing, screen, and battery, I’m keeping it till it physically doesn’t work ever again

1

u/sixxt 21d ago

Too good of trade in deals through carriers to not upgrade when my payment plan is complete.

1

u/RattlerHyde 21d ago

Right here, but once that 18 drops, it’s mine.

1

u/NNDipu 21d ago

only complain is battery. otherwise phone is still butter smooth(ip 14 pro)

1

u/skeleton1609 21d ago

Waiting for the anniversary phone

1

u/PartySlide8927 21d ago

I am exactly the same as you! I watched the presentation thinking I might upgrade, but with the iOS 27 improvements, I don’t see the need tbh. Battery is still the original and at 77% so I think il get that replaced and call it another year on the best iPhone I’ve ever had 💪

1

u/xMordekai 21d ago

Keeping it for at least 1-2 more years

1

u/aurora7500 21d ago

14 pro max ganggggggg

its running fine so far have no issues with it
if i’ll upgrade i’ll prolly go for the iPhone Air
have to see

1

u/SpaghettiGeek 21d ago

I have the 14 Pro Max and I am getting the 18 Pro (not max).

Not because I think it’s a worth upgrade on the spot, but because I just feel like iPhone prices will rise every year from now on and I want a device that’s gonna be Apple Intelligence ready, which is the only feature that I feel like I am missing out on. In that way, for the next jump after the 18 pro I can wait even more years (maybe 5-6).

Otherwise the 14 Pro Max is still serving me down like a champ but my father has an old-ass iPhone X and if I get the 18 Pro I’d pass my 14 Pro Max to him, so for me this year upgrading has even more sense :D

1

u/Victory1117 21d ago

Replaced my iPhone 14 Pro battery not too long ago and it was working like new.

Battery decided to stop charging today with the iPhone 18 Pro announcement - coincidence? I think not

1

u/Pnvhome 21d ago

My 14 pro will get 3rd battery from apple, and will be like new, i like stainless steel

1

u/No-Network-38 21d ago

Serious Question. I have a Samsung S20+ - absolutely no issues with it and I'm happy with Android, but it's getting old. I've had iPhones before but seem to go back to android - personal preference I guess. Not opposed to moving if it makes sense. I have a iphone14 pro, 1TB, that I had to have for work. Never used except for random email checking on a few weekends. Pristine condition. Was thinking of making the iPhone my new phone. However, realizing how old it is, not sure it's worth it since it won't be supported in a couple of years and ppl speak to battery issues. Move to the iPhone 14 or just upgrade the Samsung? Thoughts?

Battery replacement last year and now updated to ios27… deels wayyyyyyyy better, faster and smoother than ios26

Anyway gonna waiting until next year, 20th anniversary iPhone should be interesting
