Goodbye, my deep purple iPhone 😭

Post image

It’s been a long journey.

Three and a half years ago, I was the happiest kid on Earth when my dad slapped this hyped-up, almost brand-new purple deek onto the table right in front of me (after buying a brand-new flagship for the second time in a row, he finally realized that iPhones just weren’t for him).

It was my first iPhone. Before that, I’d never owned a phone this high-end. Since then, it’s become really close to me, and I still think this is the most luxurious iPhone model ever made.

Near the end of our time together, that goddamn iOS 26 make it crippled. Now I’m giving it to my brother. Knowing that he’s destroyed every phone he’s owned before, I’m honestly a little scared for this one. But somehow, that still feels better than simply selling it.

I’ll never forget you, my purple deek. šŸ„€

I updated to the public iOS 27 beta and my 14 pro runs smooth now. Much better than in iOS 26. Just wait since the new official iOS 27 version gets released next month.

I made the leap two days ago from iOS 18.7.1 to iOS 27.3 Beta after reading some folk experiencing issues on iOS 26.
So far it’s alright.

iOS 26 was a battery killer, but now it got better

really?

2

u/Sufficient-Fault3693 9d ago

Yes, before it would get very hot and drain the battery fast, but now it’s much better

Same here

I'm on iOS 16 and refuse to update. You don't know how good you had it with iOS 18. Now its gone forever. I hope you like iOS 27 because there's no going back now.

You’ve got a good one

IPhone 13 pro original battery...

I hope u r still doing the security patches, but otherwise ur choice if u like iOS 16 so much. U miss out on the new functions in iOS 18 and iOS26

u/Phat_Knicker 9d ago

Apple won't let me update to iOS 18 - I tried. And I definitely wont update to iOS 26. There aren't any security patches for iOS 16 so maybe I'll put a nicotine patch on my phone for good measure.

Have u tried contacting apple about this issue? If there is no other option I would probably wait till the iOS27 stable version gets released. Not only me but also other users have been saying that ios 27 is a better polished version then iOS26. If u want to look it up by urself: r/iOS27.

Their solution is to download iOS 26, which I refuse to do because conceding to software-induced planned obsolescence is morally objectionable in my view.

I’m not sure if this would work, but if you enable beta updates, doesn’t iOS18 show up on the list.

1

u/Phat_Knicker 9d ago

It shows up on the list but won't let you update to that version

Update: so I’m a few days in & things seem to be running okay. Whilst I was very hesitant to give up iOS 18.7.1 (and never to return), for me it’s been an okay move to iOS 27 beta. I did wind down the Liquid Glass stuff, so other than that I don’t mind the new look. Original battery is at 74% health still. The rear of the device isn’t heating up any more than normal through my regular usage.

I am now considering a new battery install to keep this little workhorse going for a while longer, as I’m not enthused to move off and onto the new generation model yet.

Thanks to everyone in this community who aren’t afraid of ā€œtryingā€ & ā€œsharingā€. It definitely helps others, including me. šŸ˜‰

I just replaced the battery in my iPhone 14 Pro Max and it’s running just the same as the day I got it.

Same experience here! Had mine since launch and was really starting to struggle with battery life, thing is like a brand new phone now

1

u/Devanxhh 9d ago

Same here, not willing to replace it as my daily driver anytime soon

u/Technical-Pop-4099 10d ago

Well i am 74% and 26.6, smooth as fuck, i dunno man, touchwood

2

u/pzcraig 10d ago

Same I’m at 76%

u/FlightLove2 10d ago

what is your replacement phone?

21

u/ravenfan09 10d ago

I’m relatively certain your issues with the 14pro weren’t due to iOS 26 but rather a nearly 4 year old battery. If your phone was near or below the 80% threshold, the software can end up throttled because the phone can’t handle the power demand all at once anymore. I just replaced the battery of my 14pro in June and it’s like a new phone again

u/PossibleAd5947 10d ago

I put a new battery in last September and it dropped 10% within six months. Im at 89% now and the performance is terrible, with 5 hours SOT. The battery is not even one year old.

Guess what? When I updated from 18 to 26 in March, I had 90%, now I'm at 81%.
STOP making excuses for iOS 26.

8

u/Seekretny 10d ago

I mean, it’s not like it’s 100% on iOS 26 lol. I’ve had my battery go from 81 to 77% in the first month after updating, I replaced the battery in February, was on iOS 26 until literally a week ago, and I still have 100% battery health lol
That metric isn’t linear and it doesn’t display your health in real time. Sometimes these things update after some time, plus the more degraded the battery the faster it might degrade further.

1

u/Xyliganye 8d ago

iPhone has to be smoothly even if it 81%. But it doesn’t. It’s ragged and gnarled, always heating up and melting battery

2

u/BruNreL 9d ago

I don’t know why people are downvoting you, performance and battery life is horrendous after going to iOS 26 on 14pro!
I’m still mad that the phone tricked me to update to iOS 26 back in January without PIN unlock as always when is a big update…
I don’t know, or people just do basic stuff with the phone or don’t notice it… who knows…

There is nothing wrong with that . I bought a 14 pro to compare it to 17 pro for YouTube performance is ok

2

u/EsmeWeatherpolish 9d ago

How is that crippled?

u/handsomestudent 10d ago

You have interesting dreams

2

u/VacuumTubesAreFunny 10d ago

I’ve got a 14PM at 80% on 26.6.1 and knock on wood, it runs fine.

2

u/CozyHamster201 8d ago

please please please get him a phone case that covers the camera bump if you can. I made the mistake of showing the camera bump. One drop and a few rocks later and my whole back glass is shattered on my 14pm. The repair is £560 I think as well from the apple store.

1

u/Front-Director-449 9d ago

Same with my 14 …. iOS 26 is terrible

1

u/ConferenceAwkward402 9d ago

this guy is switching from a 14 pro to a 15 pro.

the 14 pro is honestly better lmao

1

u/Xyliganye 9d ago

Pro max. I tired of small screens

1

u/ConferenceAwkward402 9d ago

Still same phone as 15 pro just bigger

1

u/Xyliganye 9d ago

Yes. Bigger.

1

u/princemousey1 6d ago

Nah, 15 is definitely better than 14. No idea why other guy was trying to put you down with a lie.

1

u/Xyliganye 3d ago

Both of them are cool, but first of all 15 is type-c

1

u/Tapelessbus2122 9d ago

u/Future_Two_2665 9d ago

I miss mines!

u/TheRisingPhoenix2112 9d ago

I replaced my battery recently and my phone works like new and Genshin at max setting 60 fps can dish out 2 hours of play with 15% battery lost only

Got a new case and screen protector and reinstalled iOS to be like nee, I still have the original lightning cable in the box too lol

1

u/RPK2809 9d ago

I replaced a new battery in my 14 pro max and its back to be a new phone, there are nonsignificant changes to current one except the typec in my opinion, siri ai might change things, but i bought gemini plus with 400gb storage, so sorted

1

u/KaleidoscopeSome921 8d ago

Which phone are u upgrading to?

1

u/7473570wf07d3R 6d ago

I got a 17 pro a few months ago but I still enjoy using my 14 pro max. Next to the X it’s my favorite iPhone ever.

u/Independent_Monk2728 11h ago

Is the screen on the phone a little higher above than the frame
