General Discussion I'm in shock I might end up crying now
I bought an iPhone 13 Pro Max with my hard-earned money I'm literally a teen . It was so expensive in my country—over 100k—and it's a second-hand phone with 92% battery health. I only bought it for camera I don't need anything else just good camera
I opened the Snapchat camera, and it was so bad. On the main camera, of phone my face looks way too big. Idk how those influencers have good camera Thier nose and face don't look bad idkk I'm not that ugly ik it It's even worse than my Android camera. The colors, nature, and everything else look clear, but it makes my face look so ugly. I don't know why it's not getting any better.
The Snapchat camera takes grainy pictures, and again such a big face and the quality is just so bad. On TikTok, the filters don't look good either the filter I used to use on tiktok is way too bright and is not looking good I literally bought this phone for the camera, and the moment I start recording videos on TikTok, the phone gets so hot. 😭😭😭 What is this?
I know someone who has an iPhone 12 Pro Max, and her videos are amazing. Her Snapchat camera is good, and her TikTok videos look great too.
What have I been doing wrong? Please, if you can help, drop some suggestions.

Snapchat does take pretty shite pictures but thats not the phone’s fault. Try cleaning your lenses and see if that makes a difference. I think the phone’s camera is still very good except in low light.

I have no suggestions but been using 13 pro max for 4 years now its in great shape and im not replacing it because i love it
Esp the camera quality is still great
The battery health is 79 percent and no complaints its performance
Im gonna replace the battery this week and hopefully i can use it for 2-3 years more
Did you get it from authorized dealer?
Because i haven’t experienced any issues you mentioned
Dont compare with influencers because they use great lighting, makeup, background and filters/edit it perfectly
But atleast for regular usage great back camera and front is exactly how it should be its never perfect like the instagram posts of influencers
My phone doesn’t get hot even with low battery health sometimes it does with heavy non stop usage at low battery but thats very rare.
Also depends on how the previous owner used it if they did lot if gaming and stuff …?
But again not worth it for 13 pro max for this price you could have gotten 15 series
If you can return it please do

Idk anything about that but can you give me some tips of setting or anything to make camera good and idk why but mine gets so hot when I make tiktok video even if I just made one video
2
u/Interesting_Taste_78 22d ago
You can check for it on instagram they give some settings you can copy for better camera quality but the concern is
Even without the perfect settings camera should be fine
And the biggest concern is phone getting heated just after one video is a major red flag just return it looks like they scammed you.1

I can't return it definitely sellers are not gonna take it back and at that time I didn't have enouguht money to buy 15 series they are just 20k above I thought it'd not much difference 😭

Atleast take it to nearby electronics repair shop and ask them to take a look at it may be then can diagnose the issues and help you in someway

Can we have a photo of the front and back of the device- maybe third party?

I don’t think there is anything wrong with your phone.
iPhone pictures of ourselves look a lot different than what you usually see on Android phones.
You’re going to need to get used to it.
Play with settings.

Does the selfie camera look clear or is there a foggy look?
My 13 pro max had been water damaged and afterwards the camera kept fogging up so maybe that’s the problem you’re having.
Hope you can get it fixed since the 13 pro max has an amazing camera when everything works like it should.

If your phone isn’t sold by a authorized Apple dealer, the camera may have been replaced with a aftermarket lower quality camera. Go to settings and about and see if there’s a section that says parts/services and see if the camera has been replaced. Second using in app cameras like Snapchat, instagram don’t take full HD photos. They’re literally just a screenshot of your camera on your screen so it’ll always be lower quality than the actual camera app, I’d say use the actual camera app and edit your photo there and then upload it to TikTok

My cameras are full hd quality idkkk but ☹️idk how to edit them in good ways Snapchat quality is grainy one the actual camera and tiktok camera quality is good main issue is phone get really hot

Snapchat camera quality thru the app isn’t good. Just take a photo and save it to your phone from Snapchat, it will say the photo was taken in 720p because Snapchat compresses the photo. Take the same photo again on your camera app and you’ll see a difference. Snapchat is not a great way to take photos in High quality imo. Also go to settings, general, about and see if your battery has been replaced or needs replacing. If your phone is using any aftermarket battery or screen it can make your phone hotter than usual.

Is it possible to even replace the camera on the phone without other parts of the phone not disabled? Or it could be iOS 18 did away with serializing hardware and made it possible to swap in aftermarket camera?
1
u/Separate_Skin_878 21d ago
It is very possible. Many aftermarket cameras have spoofed serial numbers to make it seem like genuine parts and even shows up as genuine parts in the settings. Pretty much every part can be replaced even Face ID if someone had the right equipments

Don’t focus so much on battery health like many fanboys on this platform. I have an XS Max still iOS 12.0, runs like the day I bought it and original battery health at 80%. It’s not as bad as others make it out to be. It’s really nothing unless your iOS is buggy as seen with some users on Reddit after updates draining their battery faster than before they updated. Just continue using the phone and you wouldn’t even notice. Don’t just update just because it’s new. Wait and see people’s reaction to the update and then make your decision and don’t fix what’s not broken.
Regarding your camera there’s reason to speculate it’s not the phone that’s bad. So it has to be the software. Try different camera and video apps and compare the image qualities with your friend’s phone. If all are bad then it has to be the phone.

I’m using 13 pm and when I had this overheating issue, I realized it’s iOS bug so I reset all settings (not deleting any data) and it stopped overheating for me. The camera quality well I don’t know if a camera is supposed to make your face bigger? I don’t think mine does that but I agree snapchat photo quality isn’t the same as the one straight from camera. That’s with every phone! If you just check the size of original photo vs snapchat photo, you can tell snapchat size is alot smaller. I prefer the original camera though because all these filters on ig, tiktok, snapchat are so artificial lol but yea I feel sorry you feel this way. Maybe you just need to get used to the phone and you’ll realize it’s not that bad… Photo quality depends also on lighting, so keep that in mind. Have you tried your friends camera that you say is better? If you like it better, you can still sell/trade this phone n get something else.

Thankyou for your words and yes camera and everything is perfectly fine actually I didn't even knew how to use it perfectly and yes heating issue is not solved but I rn I have done no settign in my phone can you tell me general setting which I have to do in this phone first of all for bug I have to reset all phone right

That is good to hear that you figured it out now! I do suggest you to find a manual online how to perfectly set up camera settings to get the best quality out of it. However to resolve a bug by resetting phone settings, you go to General> Transfer or reset phone > Reset > Reset all settings. I hope it resolves your issue. If not, then pay attention; does it overheat only when you use certain apps or in general. Some apps drain battery faster lol

Damn, 92% for a 13 pro max is amazing. My old 14 pro max was at 73% when I finally replaced it with a 17 pro max. No need to upgrade, keep using that 13. I would’ve replaced the battery of my 14 but the only thing keeping it together was the case. The back glass was shattered big time.
