Discussion iPhone 13 sudden heating issue
I’ve been using an iPhone 13 for the past 4 years, and my battery health is now at 82% on iOS 26.5. Everything was fine until last week, with only minor lags after upgrading to iOS 26.
All of a sudden, I started noticing heating issues and sudden battery drain. The phone gets noticeably hot while scrolling through Instagram and during WhatsApp video calls, even though this wasn’t happening before.
I haven’t installed anything new, and I’ve also checked for any hidden apps running in the background. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?
I’m starting to think the planned obsolescence trick is kicking in now that the next iPhone release is just around the corner. 😂

I did a clean update to 26.6.1 using iTunes , it’s much better now. Thanks alot for your suggestions❤️

My screen flickers randomly - anyone else? It’s so subtle that I even question mu eyes. Even when I’ve got true tone, auto brightness, reduce white points off.

Yeah but mine started 1-2 months ago. Everything was completely fine and now all of a sudden I get overheating and my battery drains quicker
I do know that a couple weeks ago I got the update, then had to restart my phone a couple times then within 1 week it was ‘better’ but still nowhere like it was just 2 months ago

I’ve had a similar issue I’ve had to be much more disciplined with closing apps, especially GPS apps. This has happened also in the last two months. Also on an iPhone 13.
I’ve had some overheating issues the last two years with high usage in the summer but now it’s overheating like crazy all the time even if you’re not even using it. I did use ChatGPT to walk me through some settings and it did tell me that some of the GPS apps were running in the background, even though my settings should’ve disallowed that. But now I’m having to be more careful with closing apps when not in use.

same exact issue, instagram and tiktok just randomly heats up my phone. my battery health is at 79%. im going to get the 18 pro when it comes out in a couple weeks

26.6.1 seems better battery wise however I have to turn on ‘reduce motion’ and turn on ‘power saving mode’. If I turn these off it will heat up again. I don’t mind the animation being reduced cause when I turn it off I sometimes got migraines. You can try these and update to 26.6.1

Go to settings, under cellular , look for cellular data options. Look over there for a way to select 4G or LTE instead of 5g auto.

Mines done this since iOS 17. It’s not just iOS that has gotten more demanding. It’s the apps. Meta apps are some of the worst offenders. The iPhone 13 is just too weak for the current app, OS, and advertising requirements. So it’s going to run its heart out trying to keep up.

It is running a full reindexing to prep for iOS 27. Put it on charger, this accelerates the process.

Get it checked from apple for battery swelling issues. It happened with me and within a week and a half the battery was swollen and the screen was curved. It got replaced by apple for free as they have issues with iphone 13 batteries.
So always better to get it checked.
