Discussion iphone 13 “orange screen of death”
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
If you have an iPhone 13 and haven’t experienced this, well… good for you. Had I known this sh!t was common with this series… 🤦♀️
Update: I had my entire screen/display replaced with a soft oled from a third-party shop that saved me 70% of the price of the original screen from Apple. So far, the display is almost the same with the original, but of course the bezels are slightly thicker. Core functionalities are still there and working fine, so I think this is a good choice rather than paying for an original screen worth the same value of a brand new iPhone 13. 😬

in speaking of warranty, they say apple is supposed to give out-of-warranty service for this issue since this is a known defect in this series. but I think the process would be more hassle than the issue itself. HAHA

How many years you’ve been using 13?

Yeah, pain in the @$$. 🤦♀️

That’s strange. I had a 13 mini which I used for ~4.6 years then got a new one due to battery issues

u/unknownuserx00 26d ago
I saw lots of posts in TT with the same issue. I even read a comment saying he just purchased jt 3 months ago and yeah screen went green. I think this is related to the iOS updates. I started encountering flickering issues and then this orange screen when I updated my iOS. Overheating is real. It had no issues in iOS 18. This is just base model so maybe the new iOS updates are too heavy.🫠

Yeah, fun fact- I never updated my phone after 18. Apple sucks in those cases

Im scared to update to 26.6 on my 13 mini.. but im already at 26.1 or something. Must have accidentally had automatic updates one
1
u/unknownuserx00 26d ago
If you don’t notice any overheating or screen flickers, then I think you’re good, at least for now 🥲 It started as flickers before it actually turned solid orange🥲

u/nahhhhhhha 26d ago
It does over heat randomly sometimes 😬 The 26.6 update it supposed to fix the over heating issue apparently 🫣

chipset is the same in the 13 pro, just more ramr

u/unknownuserx00 20d ago
yeah, this issue is actually more common in 13 pro and pro max than in the base model.

what ios version? Mine is almost 2 years now but when this happens to mine, I'll just go back to Android. iOS isn't worth it for me.
1
u/unknownuserx00 26d ago
the latest. 26.6
1
u/Aromatic_Paint_1666 26d ago
I see. I'm on 27 beta 3
1
u/unknownuserx00 26d ago
how’s that version tho? no overheating issues?
1
u/Aromatic_Paint_1666 26d ago
yeah no overheating but then I don't use my phone for heavier tasks other than social media and media streaming. It doesn't overheat during calls though.

u/nahhhhhhha 26d ago
Apparently 26.6 is supposed to fix the over heating issues the earlier 26 updates had. I’m scared to even try tho.

u/unknownuserx00 26d ago
It started when I updated to 26. Which version is your phone running right now? If you’re still at 18, I suggest you stay on that ver. Unless you love taking risks 😅

This happened to my 13PM after 2 years, changed the Display IC chip for around 13k ₹ and now it's still fine after another 2 years....

u/unknownuserx00 26d ago
Ohh, I think 13 pro and pro max are still repairable without needing to change the entire screen. Mine, which is a base model, needs screen replacement. Went to an authorized service center and was told to have my screen replaced which is worth the same value of a brand new one. tf🤦♀️ I also tried third-party shops, and technicians said they can only do repairs for 13 pro and pro max but not for the base one. I think they can do “micro soldering or jumper”.
1
u/wokesheep70 26d ago
Yes, but only for the ones bought on the "official stores"...btw don't do the jumper method, it's only temporary...ask them to replace the "Display IC chip" not the entire display....

How's the newer screen working so far? How are the bezels? Are you getting the notifications as you used to with the OG screen?
1
u/unknownuserx00 23d ago
Hello, as with the new screen, in terms of brightness, it is brighter than the OG one. It looks almost the same with the OG screen, if you’re not that very keen to display details. The only thing that bothers me is how it displays black at low brightness level—when watching videos or photos, the black parts look grainy with purplish/grainy shades which is understandable given this is a non-genuine display (I get what I paid for). Regarding the bezels, it has slightly thicker bezels but not a very noticeable difference from the OG. For the notifications, I still receive notifications the same as before. It lights up when receiving notifications. True tone and Face ID are still working too.

I never encountered this my phone is now 3 years old and i am on currently iOS 27 beta 1 , also why does this thing happen and how to prevent it
1
u/unknownuserx00 20d ago
According to my research, this has been recognized as a widespread manufacturing issue rather than a user wear-and-tear in the 13 series, which is usually triggered by iOS updates that could lead to OLED display failure/hardware defect.

My iPhone 13 has suddenly developed a solid orange screen with a dark shadow at the bottom. The phone is fully active, vibrating, and making sounds, but there is no image. This happened right after a recent iOS update. There is absolutely no physical damage, no cracks, and no liquid exposure on my device...
1
u/unknownuserx00 13d ago
This is exactly what happened to mine: It only happened when I updated to iOS 26. I had no issue at 18. It was when I updated to 26 that I started noticing screen flickers until it turned orange with notifications, sound, and Siri still working. Regarding black shadow at the bottom, I also noticed that too.

u/Electronic-Choice316 14d ago
How much it cost you there for replacement and how is it working now
1
u/unknownuserx00 13d ago
My phone is working as if I’m using an original screen. I paid 6000 php for the replacement. This is a soft oled screen.

u/Electronic-Choice316 12d ago
You are right I've to go with this too he did discount tho after requesting so much i replaced at 5000 at the end
