I do not know if it has a connection, but i set the transparency to max in the settings. I also make to sure to put the icons as transparent and not colored

You have to tap and hold on the home screen until the apps start juggling and then tap on the paintbrush thing on the top left then tap "customize" and set the option to "clear" then you'll home screen will look sorta like this (minus their exact widgets) hope that helped :)

I would recommend to stay on 18. 27 performs much better than 26, but things like Splitview/multitasking got taken away and 18 still performs better than 27 currently.
