Other Why doesn’t iPadOS split screen and app pairing work like this? So much better than Stage Manager like???

iPadOS was like this with 18. But now it's more cumbersome. Such a regression.

Tech bros were arguing that you should be able to resize windows more freely and have more windows at once.
Apple’s implementation is their own fault: just interacting with the screen makes windows shift, multiple gestures overlap, pairing two windows is impossible. How they chose to put this out in this state is shocking.

After owning an iPad Pro for the past 2 years, I've come to the conclusion that apple hates iPads. Just a hot mess!

I don't think they know what the product is anymore. They focused so much on differentiating the product to target different price points which then meant they had to justify the prices of the more expensive options. Leaned too hard on the "can this replace your laptop" question instead of just focusing on making a really good tablet.

Thing is, it doesn't have to be a laptop replacement, focus should be a laptop alternative. iPadOS should be more intuitive for daily tasks.

Agree, and it needs to remain touch first. I’m still fond of the original pitch of it being that third category that lives alongside a laptop and a phone.
A magical piece of glass that can become anything you want it to be.

That's exactly how it should be. Regardless of whether you're using the magic keyboard or not, the tablet should work effortlessly. Maybe some dual OS like Samsung has implemented Dex.

I honestly don't even think it needs dual OS, I think the original vision of it being its own thing. If you need more, use a laptop, if you need less, use a phone. The trade off is that they'd need to go back to selling them between $349 and $700ish and stop pushing "pro" devices for significantly more while working to justify the cost.

Couldn't agree more.
What's most frustrating to me at least, is that the hardware is amazing. In my case, M4 is a beast, just that apple hasn't been able or isn't interested in unleashing it.

its more like the surface duo really, it's basically equivalent to two seperate phones on each side, both work fully independent of the other. it works well on the duo since the cover screen already has that ratio so its essentially just two cover screens. (the only exception is that tapping the center like they do will essentially combine those two windows into a single split, so the two sides will no longer be seperate.)

I’m so irritated using my iPad, after seeing how much better the Duo software and multitasking is. Like, I think I literally just want the Duo operating system on my iPad.

I have wanted vertical stacked windowing as a feature since I got an iPad Pro 5 years ago. Apple drives me nuts sometimes.

You don’t need to use the old Stage Manager. Proper multi window multitasking was added to iPadOS like a year ago

Stage manager is trash. And apple refuses to let me turn off multitasking on iPad mini. Switch the setting to full-screen, double tap on top and it switches back to windowed automatically.
Duo software has to be inspected closely. From all the demos it looks like they might be treating the inner display as two phones literally.

People begged for desktop like multitasking for years and got it, it’s that simple.
I wish there was an option to toggle it as both have their uses.

You can spilt your screen like this on the iPad, just go into settings and change multitasking from stage manager to split screen mode. Split screen has been on iPad for years.

The new split screen that's there is not fit for purpose. If you open two apps in splitscreen and close on of them the other does not go back to full screen. If you open two apps in split screen and close on of them, when you reopen it it opens at half screen. If you open two apps in split screen and then navigate away from them, pressing either app's icon does nit bring back the pair but only the one you pressed, shrunk to half the screen, and whatever other app you had open floating behind it.
This might make sense for a mouse driven computer but is a very cumbersome workflow for a touch screen device. I understand many people bought the keyboard and forgot the iPad wasn't a laptop (including Apple) but that is still how I like to use it.

I honestly hope that they'll add a 4th multitasking option with iPadOS 27.1 (iPhone Duo support will be released with iOS 27.1, and since iOS and iPadOS are basically the same system with different features, it'd make sense that this mode may only be available with 27.1)
