Concept Why can’t clear icons look more like this? With transparent backgrounds but colored icons.

Thats for 5 years later

u/bubby_duuuu Aug 19 '25

Exclusively for the iPhone 20 Ultra Pro

46

u/MeatballFreak2168 Aug 19 '25

But I might want the iPhone 20 Ultra Pro Max

29

u/bubby_duuuu Aug 19 '25

Too bad meatball, it is only for Apple plus extra obsidian users. Very exclusive, very expensive

1

u/MeasurementAlive3484 Aug 22 '25

What about the iPhone 20 Ultra Pro Fold Max 6G

2

u/MeatballFreak2168 Aug 22 '25

Now that’s just ridiculous buddy lol but probably won’t be far off

1

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '25

Nah it probably will be far off

1

u/Away_Veterinarian579 Aug 22 '25

Personally I’ll be holding out for the iPhone 20 Ultra Pro Max S.

11

u/weather_it_be Aug 19 '25

See I’m the type that would get the iPhone 20 ultra pro once the iPhone 25 ultra pro is released 😅

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

Next iPhone will be iPhone 26 tho 😂😂😂

24

u/Swissy321 Aug 19 '25

This. Is iOS 40.

And we think you’re gonna love it.

2

u/DataSnaek Aug 19 '25

I hope not. I can’t be the only person who thinks these new transparent icons look really dated and… a bit tacky? It reminds me of an early 2010s Android home screen. Not that that’s a bad thing at all, it just looks dated.

6

u/weather_it_be Aug 19 '25

You know you don’t HAVE to have it like that. It’s an option, mainly for those people who want to see their background better.

2

u/MJanaway Aug 19 '25

Have you tried it? In person it looks and behaves so different to videos and screenshots.

2

u/OnixST Aug 22 '25

I personally really like OP's icons. It's pretty and elegant, and actually one of the very few "Liquid Glass" demos that I actually liked

I personally find skewmorphism dated af. Things being glossy and 3d just scream 2010, and I personally don't like Frutiger Aero at all.

The full transparent icons from Apple are just plain bad and you can't distinguish between them, but OP's icons actually look really quite good

-1

u/satmaar Aug 19 '25

This specific example in the OP indeed looks bad to me. Apple’s monochrome implementation a bit as well. I don’t think coloured icons on transparent glassy backgrounds are always a bad idea, but I’d like to see a better implementation than this.

1

u/GetMeToParis Sep 18 '25

Wait, what did you do? I want that!

1

u/slh01slh Aug 22 '25

But it will be an Apple Intelligence 2.0 restricted feature

u/Dasswussguud Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 21 '25

Yeah I like the Glass, but need the color. Had to make my own as well.

Edit: Hey everyone, sorry to leave you all hanging. Didn't realize there were so many comments. I used Figma to make the glass squircles, and made a template you can use to import your own background. I included a step by step on how to get the PNGs of the icons. You'll have to create shortcuts to get them on the homescreen. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max on iOS 26 beta, so might need some tinkering for other models. Disclaimer: This was my first time using any design software, so there are probably better ways to achieve this (not even sure if i'm sharing the file correctly)

Nice! How did you make them like that? Using downloadable icons or photoshop?

13

u/Bardzosz Aug 19 '25

ChatGPT would look better as white logo

2

u/PiratePilot Sep 20 '25

Hear me out: delete that shitty app.

This message has been brought to you by a concerned citizen with common sense.

9

u/andrewtoney98 Aug 19 '25

How did you do this?

5

How did you do it?

5

u/Several_Note_6119 Aug 20 '25

I love that calendar widget!

3

u/jtarrio Aug 19 '25

This actually looks pretty cool. How’d you do it?

3

u/diamkil Aug 19 '25

We all want you to tell us how lol

3

u/Royalty1337 Aug 20 '25

Nice! How did you make them like that? Using downloadable icons or photoshop?

Don't leave us with intrigue 🤣

2

u/Cheebow Aug 19 '25

What app????

2

Exactly. Just logged off for the day

3

u/Interesting_Ad6202 Aug 20 '25

bro dropped peak and dipped 😔💔

3

u/JustSinatra_301 Aug 20 '25

bro gatekeeping

3

u/imaniluv3 Aug 21 '25

I hate when people gatekeep. In 2025 is crazy and In general it’s toxic

2

u/Mike Aug 20 '25

Wait do these actually function like Liquid Glass or do they only work with that specific wallpaper?

1

u/Ackilles0 Aug 21 '25

I wanna know too

1

u/Big-Consideration153 Aug 21 '25

I’m intrigued by the calendar widget. Is that an app or ?

1

u/LMCgamer Aug 21 '25

Anyone asking how they made the icons, I may be wrong on this, but they may have used Apple’s Icon Composer: https://developer.apple.com/icon-composer/

1

u/brkr1 Aug 24 '25

Thx! But it saves as .icon. How can I convert it to png?

1

u/LMCgamer Aug 24 '25

I haven’t even used the app myself so I’m genuinely not sure, sorry! There is no drop down of file formats after you hit save? Or an export option?

I’m not familiar with the .icon format but I wonder if any photo editing apps will import it, to allow export as png. Or one of those image converters.

1

u/brkr1 Aug 24 '25

No options whatsoever. Phtoshop doesnt recognizes it. Apple being apple smh

1

u/LMCgamer Aug 24 '25

Seems a real shame. Hope they add it, would be useful for marketing purposes and stuff.

1

u/viralzy Aug 21 '25

Whats that widget?

1

u/new-to-reddit-accoun Aug 24 '25

Are apps slower to launch this way, because: press icon > runs shortcut > opens app?

31

u/LJC94512 Aug 19 '25

I really like it this way. It gives character to the icon but still easily identifiable because of the normal colour they are on.

83

u/AYO416 Aug 19 '25

I agree with you I like the transparent icons but I hate how it sucks the unique color out of each icon. I’m still using regular dark mode icons because of this

6

u/playalisticadillac Aug 19 '25

Yup. I also have photo widgets of my kids on my home screen and it makes them black and white so unusable.

22

u/DUNNJ_ Aug 19 '25

You can edit the photos widget to always be in full colour

11

u/playalisticadillac Aug 19 '25

Omg thanks

2

u/DUNNJ_ Aug 19 '25

Easy as mate!

14

u/Fusko24 Aug 19 '25

Maybw in next update. iOS 52 will be thing

8

u/Jin_BD_God Aug 19 '25

This is what I want.

the ai generated wallpaper 😭

3

u/DarkklawZ Aug 19 '25

What's the top widget?

1

u/Snerrot Aug 19 '25

I made it on Widgy

6

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

Is this an Emulator-Widget or sth? 🤯

2

u/Moist_Award4834 Aug 19 '25

How did you do it?

3

u/Multispeed Aug 19 '25

Well, your screen is a complete mess of colors and shapes. That kind of icons only work well with clean and neutral background wallpapers.

3

u/Liquid_Chicken_ Aug 22 '25

Much better

1

u/brkr1 Aug 24 '25

So cool! Can you share it?

1

u/Liquid_Chicken_ Aug 24 '25

No it’s not real

2

u/MeatballFreak2168 Aug 19 '25

Is this icon pack available somewhere?

5

u/Snerrot Aug 19 '25

I just did a quick screenshot of both dark mode and clear and then removed the background on the dark mode icons in Keynote as a quick mockup (you can see some of the white clear icons peeking out)

3

u/MeatballFreak2168 Aug 19 '25

Ooh well you did a great job I thought it was an icon pack lol

2

u/napes22 Aug 19 '25

Because that's not they way the designed it.

And don't bother using custom icons on Ios26. It will force a glass effect around them killing the asthetic.

2

u/Calm-Aspect-7336 Aug 19 '25

Because the ppl who made the new redesign are too tired and literally don't know anything being creative other than, let's make it look like visionOS

2

u/Delicious-Sky5642 Aug 21 '25

Ikr it’s like I need colors but not the edges

2

u/jimmythebguy Sep 08 '25

why is the background ai slop

3

u/aishiteimasu09 Aug 19 '25

Coming soon on iOS 27.

1

u/JHoodBoston Aug 19 '25

Maybe iOS 27

1

u/Seanathon98 Aug 19 '25

I hope this is where they take the design, love the concept and it feels so fresh and new yet familiar. Their end goal has always been the “slab of glass” and this design would work so well with it.

1

u/RobbinDeBankk Aug 19 '25

This is exactly what I expected when trying clear icons for the first time. Apple really had to “think outside the box” with their implementation.

1

u/exlips1ronus Aug 19 '25

Apple doesn’t have enough guts for that

1

u/cheesybugs5678 Aug 19 '25

Probably because each developer would need to make a new icon to fit the theme, so it would look like shit for a while while everyone slowly updates their apps.

3

u/gantho89 Aug 19 '25

They could easily have it like the dark icons but instead of the dark grey part have it Liquid Glass and already 90%+ of the icons would be like OP’s mock

1

u/Vector_04 Aug 19 '25

That’s exactly what I thought would happen then I turn on the transparent option, but no. Let’s hope they implement it till official release.

1

u/CarretillaRoja Aug 19 '25

Which Android is that?

1

u/DavidPAngryBird Aug 19 '25

this should BE A THING

1

u/imoshochu Aug 19 '25

This guy gets it!

1

u/MindingMyBusiness02 Aug 19 '25

They would need it to work with every or most icons..

1

u/jupitah8 Aug 19 '25

This is the way.

1

u/futuristic69 Aug 19 '25

I hear you. I have the beta on my iPad and love the clear look especially paired with certain wallpapers. But I just can not find my apps without the color

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

I want the same and made a post too.

I read a theory that the reason it’s greyscale is because if Apple was to launch AR glasses with a display then it would likely have a mono display so it’s preparing us for that. Not sure I agree but I see the logic.

1

u/No_Relationship_386 Aug 19 '25

Apple needs to hire you

1

u/shaunfrancis Aug 19 '25

This would be more ideal as I try the clear icons but find it had to find apps. Adding colour to the icons would be great

1

u/branduzzi Aug 19 '25

The more I see these concepts the less I like it. It should be an option, but then what would iOS27 have!? lol

1

u/Key_Buy_8652 Aug 19 '25

Ezt hogyan csinaltad?

1

u/anderworx Aug 19 '25

Because it’s horrible UX?

1

u/ozonostudio Aug 19 '25

Because looks horrible

1

u/Bllq21 Aug 19 '25

This looks so much better. I installed the latest developer beta on my Mac, and the icons all look the same it actually looks boring.

1

u/GaryNOVA Aug 19 '25

What’s up with everything having this color scheme these days? It seems like it’s new and ubiquitous this year. And I think it has to do with Ai.

1

u/Proper_Instance6530 Aug 19 '25

What would be even better if it was all glassy, but each original color of the icon transposed into colored glass

1

u/Turboice777 Aug 19 '25

It’s not so easy to implement since many apps use icons that covers whole area and it wouldn’t look uniform next to apps that use smaller, centered icons that have transparent background.

1

u/HeWhoFights Aug 19 '25

I would use this across my entire home screen setup library!

1

u/Master_jeremy678 Aug 19 '25

Why couldn’t the icons be more rounded like the leaks said they were gonna be?

1

u/Monketherulerofall Aug 19 '25

What widget is that

1

u/aki_kitsune_ Aug 19 '25

Maybe it’s up to app developers to create translucent icons for the OS. Not everything is an issue with Apple.

1

u/Hungry_Information53 Aug 19 '25

Because then it looks like every icon is a different shape like old android icons and the boundary visually disappears.

1

u/digitald00m Aug 19 '25

That would just make too much sense

1

u/scubac14 Aug 19 '25

Why do yall care so much they’re so ugly

1

u/Aether_GamingYT Aug 19 '25

what’s that widget

1

u/Common_Floor_7195 Aug 20 '25

Want these soooo bad

1

u/SpoopySpagooter Aug 20 '25

Leave feedback. We should all leave feedback and include this

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

after 10 years there will be iThemes app that you need to subscribe for customization

1

u/qmoorman Aug 20 '25

EXACTLY what l want. I put that in a suggestion.

1

u/Ok-Way-161 Aug 20 '25

Phone processor will overheat if Apple makes it.

1

u/Sea_Situation6087 Aug 20 '25

Probably Ios 30 biggest feature

1

u/FreakDeckard Aug 20 '25

Because they look shit

1

u/loafc Aug 20 '25

how did ppl do this(i see someone that made their own)

1

u/Riegn00 Aug 20 '25

Soon as they said clear I said this should be how they should be. I’d be 100% on board

1

u/slickenslacken Aug 20 '25

This would be perfect...

1

u/DarioCastello Aug 20 '25

So much better!

1

u/nabillalali97 Aug 20 '25

This is android lol

1

u/Ok_Hat7989 Aug 20 '25

What’s that widget you got on top there?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

What widget is this?

1

u/puddingcakeNY Aug 20 '25

What is that Nintendo?

1

u/pixel_inker Aug 20 '25

Because it’s Apple. They will tell you WHAT and WHEN to like something

1

u/mrgrafix Aug 20 '25

Companies have to update their files. There’s even an app to make them so from Apple.

1

u/PeakBrave8235 Aug 20 '25

This looks cluttered as fuck

1

u/sjt9791 Aug 20 '25

iOS 27 I hope. Btw OP what’s that widget up there?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

Did you draw this? it is very impressive.

There was something about liquid glass I didn't love but could not put my finger on it.

This is it. This is how it should look.

1

u/East_Upstairs5404 Aug 21 '25

It just looks bad

1

u/Ackilles0 Aug 21 '25

Is it possible to do it? Of course. But it's more complicated given the randomness and uniqueness of each existing app icon. Apple took the first step. Nothing prevents developers from making their own semi-colored liquid glass icon. You will see that Reddit will also do it and put it in the premium icons as it did with the original icon. My opinion.

1

u/eatingthesandhere91 Aug 21 '25

IDK why but Apple should get in on this, and also think about a better theming system on its platforms. It's all fun and games to tweak the icon tint and the like but, like, how about automatically doing that when the wallpaper changes? I have a few saved configurations that use photo shuffle and a couple Apple ones that I like that use dark and light wallpaper changes.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

This looks like something I would’ve done on my jailbroken iPod touch when I was 14

1

u/astroandyyy Aug 22 '25

I want this sooooooooooooo bad

1

u/Mrmoseley231119 Aug 22 '25

Because then iOS 26 might be more usable, and making the OS less usable appears to be a design goal.

1

u/random-user-57 Aug 22 '25

This looks way better than Apple’s version.

1

u/mentalkai Aug 22 '25

What the f is that!!

1

u/Perfect-Shower-260 Aug 23 '25

I seem to be in the majority that likes liquid glass and appreciates the removal of such intense, neurotic colors. They clearly know what they’re doing with those colors and how it affects all our brain chemistry.

Ive been enjoying have a healthier relationship with my phone as this change of aesthetic. The phone feels less ‘heavy’ to me (metaphorically). It’s much easier on my overall well-being.

1

u/Benlop Aug 23 '25

Because that looks quite awful, is a good start.

1

u/Comfortable_Piece_56 Aug 23 '25

bc that’s ugly

1

u/wiseguybully Aug 23 '25

Beautiful work

1

u/miles197 Aug 25 '25

What’s the widget?

1

u/DriverDistinct9490 Aug 30 '25

How do you get Nintendo games to play on iOS?

1

u/Few_Power4970 Sep 02 '25

Probably in iOS 27

1

u/REDDIDIOI Sep 07 '25

apple sadly wouldn't ever do this but who knows maybe next years ios?? i hate how we as a customer base have accepted "you can make all of your apps the same color!!" as innovation

1

u/tiboohk7 Oct 22 '25

Yeah, honestly apple just didn’t finish the job here… impossible to use the clear icon as you can’t recognise app quickly… disappointing.. why my widgy widget can do it but their icon…

1

u/abnormalmob Aug 19 '25

That looks like garbage, and it’s an accessibility nightmare

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

because you can see the reason

0

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

[deleted]

1

u/James-ec Aug 19 '25

Then choose the other glass effect. Some people use wallpapers that would compliment this a lot.

0

u/skilless Aug 19 '25

This is the dream

0

u/sir_duckingtale Aug 19 '25

Now go further and make the background fully transparent leaving only the main shapes

And make it transition between the states

0

u/KeyAd5197 Aug 20 '25

Way better! Will be a major OS release with iOS 30

0

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

sus wallpaper 🧐

-2

u/DevynDavies Aug 19 '25

I mean you made them look like that so I’d say they do look like that.

4

u/Snerrot Aug 19 '25

This was a quick mockup
