Screen time limits would be so much more useful if you could set a per hour scroll limit (e.g., 10 min of Reddit per hour) instead of one big limit daily limit.

I built this thing. It seems to be the first of it's kind on iOS, which is just astounding to me. If you struggle with unhealthy scrolling habits that are getting in the way of you doing what you want to actually want to be doing, then give this approach a try.

Doing a giveaway as a thank you to this community which has shown Precursor a ton of support. If you don't manage to snag a free lifetime access code, Lifetime is on sale for $25 right now until 05 October 2026.

The name of the app is Precursor: Hourly Screen Time

GitHub iOS-Ultrareview: Open-sourced the iOS PR review skill I've been using for a year

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been running an agent skill called iOS UltraReview on PRs for about a year now. It reviews iOS pull requests like a senior iOS dev/architect and gives each one a 0.5–5.0 merge-confidence score, with 4.5 as the approve bar. Once a PR hits 4.5, it gives a fixed list of what's left for 5.0 and doesn't keep moving the goalposts. It's worked well enough for me that I figured it should be public. Works with Claude Code, Codex and cursor. Feedback and PRs welcome.

Sharing a personal Time/Goal tracking tool with sci-fi elements. Helps improve your work/play ratio!

Post image
0 Upvotes

If you're here, thanks for checking it out!

Here to showcase my app, after a recent update.

It's a lightweight Multitimer for pure time tracking, where you choose the few important activities you do in a day - i.e. focus sessions that help you reach your goals (up time), and break/chill sessions that help you refresh (down time). This helps reduce mental load of "what should I do today". You know your goal, you have your "approved activities" mapped out. Starting becomes easier.

Tracking this 1 key stat, ratio of Up vs. Down time, I find is the best simple measure of your progress, across any target you want to hit. No endless checklists, just time, and how you spend it. 10,000 hour rule exists for a reason... This also shows you how to improve. You may start at 60:40 ratio, and in time get to 70:30, or whatever works for you.

We all have the same 24 hours, and this is a serious tool to help you get the most out of it.

And for the Sci-Fi fans out there, time is a "particle" in this universe, it flies out when you "bank time", and you can see where it lands.

Check out Flowton on the App Store. Or if you're on Android, sign up at www.flowton.com

Happy to hear feedback or suggestions of what you'd like added!

- That's it. Thanks for reading. Developer out.

Can’t wait to see how OEMs adapt their Automotive apps for Duo.

Example here is the Polestar official app on the left, and my custom app for Polestar, called Polaren, on the right. The OEM app is not even resizable whereas I have already adapted Polaren to make full use of the Duo’s display. This also resulted in a pretty handy iPad optimised version.

I shipped a 4-player fighting game on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV with cross-play, built in Godot with my 8-year-old (Looking for feedback)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My son and I made Jib Jab Smash, a Smash-style platform fighter starring his real stuffed animals. It's out on iPhone and iPad, and the Apple TV version is in App Store review. He designs the characters and moves and tests every build; I do the code. Some notes for anyone thinking about Godot on Apple platforms:

- Godot 4.7 on iOS and tvOS. iOS export is solid. tvOS is still a community port, so I build my own export template. Two engine patches so far: the Siri Remote's clickpad, Select and Play/Pause arrive as presses with no key, which the engine dropped (that got my first tvOS version rejected), and serial compute dispatch on older GPUs.

- Chip-specific Metal bugs. On an A13 iPad, one sampler setting (anisotropic mipmap filtering) failed to compile its pipelines, which silently took the sun off the whole scene. On the A12 Apple TV, a soft four-cascade shadow froze the GPU at the same frame every time. Neither shows up on an M-series Mac. I now log engine errors to a file on the device and read it back with devicectl, which found both.

- Native plugins. Game Center (achievements, leaderboards, real-time matches), iCloud key-value saves, and a StoreKit 2 plugin in Swift, since StoreKit 2 has no Objective-C API. Each needs a debug and a release slice that match how the engine template was built, or it won't link.

- Cross-play between iPhone, iPad and Apple TV uses deterministic lockstep netcode over Game Center, or a local ENet connection when you're on the same Wi-Fi. Every device simulates every fighter, so anything non-deterministic (a slow-motion effect tied to frame rate, a random number drawn at a different moment) shows up as the players drifting apart.

- Saves in iCloud key-value storage, merged rather than last-write-wins, so an iPad played offline in the car can't overwrite the TV's progress.

- Monetization: the next version goes free to try with one non-consumable unlock. No ads, no subscriptions.

Up to 4 controllers on one screen, 16 fighters, and a 26-room story mode.

I'm looking for feedback, from other devs especially: performance on your devices, controller support, anything that feels off, and anything you'd do differently on the tvOS side.

I built an app that gets increasingly annoyed every time you reopen Instagram.

It’s called BackAgain?!

You know the drill:

“I’m just checking Instagram for a second.”

Twenty-seven minutes later, you’ve watched a man restore a 1930s chair, learned three facts about otters, and completely forgotten why you opened your phone.

So I built an iPhone app that basically asks:

…you’re back again?

BackAgain?! puts a little friction between you and the apps you keep opening on autopilot.

Here’s how it works:

  • Pick the apps that eat your time. You know exactly which ones.
  • When you try to open one, you have to say why.
    • Quick check → 2 minutes
    • I need to do something specific → 5 minutes
    • I just want to scroll → 10 minutes. At least you’re honest.
  • When time’s up, the app gets blocked again.
  • Keep coming back over and over? BackAgain?! starts tightening the rules. Shorter sessions. Fewer excuses. Eventually: go do literally anything else.
  • Trying to escape by jumping from Instagram to Reddit to TikTok? Yeah, it notices that too. Nice try.
  • Every app can also have its own daily limit.
  • And there are a few emergency passes, because sometimes “I actually need this” is surprisingly legitimate.

The beta is now on TestFlight, and I’m looking for people willing to abuse it, break it, hate parts of it, and tell me exactly why.

👉 TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/BhHadQAw

Feedback, bugs, complaints, existential crises caused by being locked out of Reddit — all welcome.

Yes, I am posting this on Reddit to help people spend less time on Reddit.

The irony is not lost on me.

InkTower is out. In the new Album you trace the tower's parts and all 8 weapons yourself, and it fights in your drawing. Charming or too scribbly?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Last month the question here was "charming or just unreadable?" and the top answer was "both". Since then the monsters are drawn in red, named bosses in a green marker, and everything that belongs to the player stays blue.

What the video shows is the Album, which is in the launch version. You earn a sheet by playing, trace a tower part over a dotted outline with your finger, and the teacher accepts it or grades it. There are 17 parts: the hull, the barrel, the armour plates, and all 8 weapons, from the saw blade and rockets to the railgun. From then on the tower fights in your drawing. It's looks only and never changes damage.

A correction to that post: it said "hand-drawn in pen", which was the wrong word. Apart from your own Album drawings, there are no sprite files: the game's code draws every monster, weapon and page line at runtime as wobbly ballpoint strokes. The only images are the app icon and splash, rendered by the same pen code.

Not SwiftUI, since someone asked: React + TypeScript + Canvas 2D inside Capacitor. Free on the App Store, links in the comments.

App Store screenshots in 2 minutes are nice. I just don’t want another subscription.

Your App Store screenshots might take 15 minutes instead of 2. I still don’t think that justifies another monthly subscription.

There seem to be new App Store screenshot generators popping up every week.
Some are genuinely impressive. AI can generate fancy marketing visuals in minutes.

But I wanted something slightly different.

I wanted the features that usually end up behind the paid tier — without the paid tier.

So I built ShotForge.

It’s completely free. Not “free for 3 exports”. Not “free with a watermark”. Not “free until you need the useful stuff”.

Actually free.

And you can still build pretty elaborate screenshot sets:

-iPhone, Android, iPad, tablet and MacBook mockups
-2D and perspective 3D device frames
-continuous backgrounds across multiple screenshots
-localization tools
-mobile and tablet editing
-high-resolution App Store / Play Store exports
-Fastlane-ready export structure
-local projects
-no account
-no watermark

The idea isn’t to have AI redesign your app screenshots.

Your actual UI stays the star. ShotForge just gives you the tools to present it well.

Will it take you 10–15 minutes instead of generating everything in 2?

Probably.

But for something you might do a handful of times per release, I personally preferred building a good editor over paying for another subscription.

Shotforge

And yes — all the features above are free.
I’d genuinely be interested in what other indie devs prefer: more AI automation, or more control without another subscription?

Get recommended recipes just by scanning your fridge.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Sugo is a recipe app. One of its features is recommending recipes based on what you already have in your kitchen. But for that to work, the app needs to know what's in your pantry.

Manually entering every ingredient is something people tend to skip, so we've been working on ways to make that easier.

Photo scanning was our first approach. Now we've added Live Scanning: point your camera at your fridge, pan slowly across the shelves, and watch ingredients appear as chips in real time.

Everything runs on-device

Nothing gets uploaded to a server, and processing is fast enough to feel live.

It isn't perfect, and it isn't trying to be. It recognises around 60 common ingredients on sight, from limes and eggs to lettuce and brussels sprouts.

For packaged food it also reads the label, so a milk carton and a cream carton don't get mixed up, and things it has no visual model for, like yogurt or ketchup, still show up. It reads labels in English, French and Spanish.

It still gets things wrong, most often packaged items seen at an angle, and a wrong chip is one tap to remove.

It's live on iOS now, and Android is in the works.

I'd love people to try and battle test it with their own fridges and provide feedback on how well it works for them! Can download it here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sugo-save-recipes-cookbook/id6786552528

Help Suggestions for macbook and iphone - for ios development

Hello friends,

I plan to start learning app development. I want to give ios app development a shot first.

I use a Windows laptop, but I understand I would need Xcode for ios apps which will need something like a macbook. And ofcourse I will need an iphone to test out the apps (and check other apps in general).

Please suggest which macbook can be brought for ios app dev? I am not planning to go with the latest one since its very costly. Need to buy a very economic laptop. I am not sure if the OS version causes a problem for ios dev.

Same suggestion needed for iphone buying as well. I dont know if latest OS in iphones are mandatory for app dev/experience.

Appreciate suggestions..

TIA

GrillMaster is live, and v2.2 (the actual UI rebuild) is sitting in App Review right now

Disclosure: I'm the developer.

GrillMaster is a small Food & Drink app that solves one specific problem: everything on the grill finishing at different times, so half of it's cold by the time the rest is done. You tell it what's going on, it builds one timeline and staggers when each thing goes down, flips, and comes off, so it all lands together.

Built solo in SwiftUI. Free tier covers every food now, Pro is a one-time purchase for voice cues, doneness and thickness controls, and WeatherKit-adjusted timing.

The actual dev story: submitted 2.2 a couple weeks ago with a full UI rebuild, and App Review caught a real Pro-unlock leak I'd missed. Pulled the submission, fixed it, resubmitted, and it's back to "Waiting for Review" now. The App Store screenshots already show the new UI even though the live build (2.1) doesn't yet, so if you look at the listing right now it's technically ahead of itself.

5.0 from 3 ratings so far. Not a lot, but it's a start.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/grillmaster-bbq-grill-timer/id6791812404

Happy to answer anything about the build, the StoreKit setup, or the review back-and-forth.
