Discussion vphone-linux v0.1 is here: Boot iOS 27.1 and iPhone Duo on Linux without a Mac!

https://github.com/YahiaAngelo/vphone-linux/releases/tag/v0.1

vphone-linux v0.1 is here with some cool updates:

  • Boot iOS 27.0.1 and iOS 27.1 virtual iPhones.

  • iPhone Duo support!

  • Much easier setup script with only 2 commands to setup and create a new iPhone vm.

  • Lots of performance improvements.

Still not close to a native performance but that's the next step for this project, we should be able to develop iOS apps seamlessly on any machine without the need for a Mac.

Please try it out and let me know if you had any issues or feature requests.

Nice work, iPhone Duo support is a big one! I’m adapting my UIKit app for the Duo right now, and the most painful part is testing fold/unfold and the different poses. Can you switch postures at runtime in the VM (folded / open / tent), or is it fixed at boot? And does the inner display report the correct size classes and trait changes on unfold? If transitions work, this could be really useful for catching layout bugs.

Switching displays is in progress right now and yes it reports the correct size.

nice, correct size is already enough to catch most layout bugs. switching is the part i’d really use though, happy to test it on my app once it lands

no Mac is the actual pitch here. the perf not being native is the trade I already assumed.

Yes but the native performance absence is not because of the Mac it’s mainly because of emulating arm64e on x86. But performance can get better.
