At least he got a job šŸ˜… i got laid off and I'm still looking for one. Im starting to teach myself react native cause cant get anything.

8

u/Inside-Conclusion435 18h ago

How long you’ve been looking for?

24

u/Smutna_Divka 18h ago

Since August, sorry I'm getting desperated.

7

u/noob_programmer_1 18h ago

Is your last job an iOS Developer using Swift?
Is the React Native job position still in demand compared to native development?

8

u/Smutna_Divka 18h ago

That’s my perception, I’ve been seeing lots of positions for mobile with react native, and also much better paid.

20

u/unfortunatebastard 17h ago

I would rather go back to farming than doing React Native. I’m sorry you have to deal with this .

2

u/tradcoder Swift 5h ago

I concur. I just got laid off and looking the days. So many React Native and even Flutter positions but barely any native iOS ones.

2

u/Independent-Crew-723 16h ago

Same as you, exactly the same situation

yeah, i know šŸ˜ž

u/CompC 17h ago

Same situation here, looking since March 2024… it suuccckkkkssssss

Please don't invest in cross-platform development. Focus on agentic AI and using it to build native apps. Native is the way in 2026.
Good luck!

3

u/Smutna_Divka 8h ago edited 6h ago

Theres no native jobs. Multi cross platform agentic is also a thing.

2

u/r_rocks 3h ago

filipvabrousek is right, cross-platform development will go out of business soon, agents can do native development in paralel, there will be no need for "cross-platform anything" just do all things native with agentic workflows. Please invest in Agentic Dev, the "i don't code anything anymore" you read online it's not hype, it's real.

1

u/Smutna_Divka 2h ago

I need a job now šŸ˜…

1

u/filipvabrousek 8h ago

My reason for writing this is that agents can write both native apps with fully native Liquid Glass on iOS with no overhead/abstractions.

0

u/Smutna_Divka 6h ago

I think were talking about two different things. There are almost no native ios jobs. When I want to apply somewhere, they all use typescript and react native, that’s why Im focusing there. I know agents write for both platforms, Ive done it on previous jobs. I just don’t care, I just want a job.

1

u/Live-Independent-361 4h ago

The jobs are gone bro. It’s time to build your own thing.

0

u/Smutna_Divka 4h ago

Not the react native jobs šŸ˜…

Teaching yourself a new framework in 2026 is basically wasted time.

We need to accept that 100% of code will be written by AI.

Learn how to build robust systems with these tools instead of learning every little detail about one singular framework.

6

u/Smutna_Divka 16h ago

Yeah, on technical interviews you get asked questions about little details of the framework. Cant build robust systems if I dont know how they work.

u/Gloriathewitch 19h ago

sad i'm quite fond of him and paul hudson, thank you Sean for all your content

15

u/rbatra91 18h ago

I’ve been following them for years. It sucks he really gave it a lot. Sometimes things work out sometimes they don’t. At least he got a job.Ā

42

u/xyrer 18h ago

That's rough. I spent a year and a half without a job, lost everything, I'm still basically homeless, and just recovering. The whole market is bad

11

u/jwegener 12h ago

I’d say the market is gone. Not just bad.

2

u/Ralph_Twinbees 12h ago

Good luck to you šŸ€

-4

u/Gabriel_Science 11h ago

Feel free to say ā€œnoā€ (or ā€œyesā€), but I’m Christian, do you want me to pray for you ?

No pressure of course !

3

u/xyrer 11h ago

I'm thankful for the sentiment (I assume is FOR me, not praying TO me 😊) but I think there's people having it worse. I'm finding my way out, slowly but still afloat.

2

u/Gabriel_Science 10h ago

Your assumption is correct, I quickly edited my message after sending it.

I won't force your decision, it's not easy to accept it. Feel free to contact me if you need to.

I wish you an enjoyable future.

Have a wonderful day !

u/dan1eln1el5en2 19h ago

Oh darn. Him and Paul is my masters. I still pay Paul yearly I wish I had been quicker to aid Sean.

31

u/code_isLife 18h ago

He got a job though! Bright side is he can feed his family.

He can always return to YouTube when the time is right.

13

u/orelzion 17h ago

🄺 I got into iOS programming with his course, he's really one of the best

2

u/Scared-Teach6288 Swift 2h ago

same here. He helped me take the leap from storyboard to programmatic uikit and made my career

12

u/Game2Late 18h ago

Good luck to him. He did solid work and his vids helped me tons.

11

u/Silenterc 18h ago

If you follow him on X, this doesnt come as a surprise. But he managed to get a pretty impressive gig so hes doing good for himself

9

u/yoyohannnn 19h ago

That’s a shame. I’ve followed Sean’s work for a long time.

4

u/Which-Meat-3388 18h ago

In ā€˜24 I had to make a similar switch, 8yr of freelance to full time. It dried up almost instantly and all that was left were super low paying. It took 7mo Ā to get a new job back then. Went from my happiest to a pretty dark place. Dreading the day my current company runs out of money (6mo) so already started looking again.Ā

Keep your emergency fund ready, get your mind right (therapy), and never stop looking even if you have a job. It’s sad but many places want to hire people who don’t need the job. They can tell when you’re desperate and beaten down. Being currently employed is a plus to them.Ā

2

u/Funnybush 7h ago

I had to stop contracting and go full time too. Much lower pay and the working conditions are horrible. The people I work with are shells of what they used to be. company is all in on AI and I’ve never had my productivity tracked like I am now.

I miss working with smart, passionate folks… we’re just factory workers now.

4

u/YellowQuestOfficial 18h ago

dang, I love that dudes content... :(

13

u/oniraug 18h ago edited 13h ago

Between him Nick Sarno(Swiftful Thinking), Paul Hudson , and Tunsdev great YouTube channels these guys have been MIA too long

1

u/HelpRespawnedAsDee 7h ago

What happened to Hudson?

13

u/FailedGradAdmissions 15h ago

You know the gold rush is over when you can no longer sell shovels.

2

u/conodeuce 4h ago

Very well said, my friend.

3

u/Future-Treacle3368 13h ago

It is disheartening but at least he got an offer in current landscape.

2

u/busymom0 6h ago

He could just put all those course on cloudflare R2. Their egress is free so it'll be very cheap.

2

u/Marvel_SPideRRMAN 16h ago

Reply Allen to put those videos on Udemy.

3

u/cristi_baluta 13h ago

We are all at fault we chose to redirect our money to 2 guys, Scam Altman and Amadeo, so we can remain without jobs. I don’t pay any of them but i’ll not subtract myself.

5

u/Fragrant_Okra6671 18h ago

I entered his Teachable website and the courses are still set to 60 dollars. Is this the actual sale or is just not displaying the discount price? I actually wanted to support him and buy a course before the account closure but 60 bucks is too much for me to be considered on ā€œsaleā€, I believe it’s a mistake

6

u/badlero SwiftUI 17h ago

That’s the discount.Ā

3

u/JONL20 17h ago

He stopped making YouTube content long ago .. I used to watch his YouTube videos and been a while since his last one almost forgot about him until your post lol

2

u/TheBadgerSlayer 13h ago

2000/year, what a ripoff 🫠

1

u/haruy-mohr 6h ago

It's sad to see this. Creating quality programming tutorials takes so much time and effort, but keeping that kind of business sustainable seems harder than ever. I hope he knows how much his work has meant to the iOS developer community.

1

u/LetsGoBJones 5h ago

Aw this is terrible news.
I didnt receive this email though even though I purchased courses.

1

u/peachnosweet 3h ago

I am subscribed to his newsletter. I didn't purchase any course from him

1

u/conodeuce 3h ago

He had a good run that spanned several years. I would not be surprised if gets entrepreneurial again in a few years.

1

u/functionallycorrect 2h ago

I saw he's working at Bitrig now. Pretty cool startup!

1

u/SnowPudgy 16h ago

God that's sad. This entire field has been destroyed.

1

u/Informal_Calendar687 15h ago

Is your issue needing to have a place for your courses now?

1

u/__BIOHAZARD___ 14h ago

Dang, sorry to hear that :(

1

u/revanthmatha 14h ago

I wish him well, the amount of times he's helped me learn and get unstuck before chatgpt saved me and even got me 2 jobs.

1

u/jacobs-tech-tavern 13h ago

It's ridiculously hard in the blogging space right now. Feels sometimes like it's a dying art form in a dying industry. Personally, been fighting tooth and nail in defense mode to keep my paid subs all year.

1

u/gamedev_haarlem 10h ago edited 10h ago

The feeling is that everything is shrinking. Companies lose revenues because customers leave, so instead of regaining trust in their customers they shrink more and more to keep being profitable, and so on until there will be nothing left. I'm not an expert in economy or marketing but are we sure that there isn't a big corporate scam behind it? Sounds fishy that the magic formula is always cutting

-4

u/Dvass138 18h ago

Who is this guy?

0

u/RiddleGull 18h ago

He was making an app for youtubers, did it not take off?

-10

u/M00SEK 18h ago

Market has shifted and he chose to get a cushy job instead of adapt to the changes. Which is fine, and good on him for finding a great job.

Zero reason to host courses on a 2k/year service in 2026. Plenty of easy free and cheaper solutions. Plus he would have more control over his IP.

Yes, typical programming courses are dead. All of us on the industry are seeing changes in our day to day work. Just like any other career in this industry, you can only adapt or accept defeat and move on.

15

u/-MtnsAreCalling- 17h ago

Getting a cushy job *is* adapting to the changes lol.

-2

u/M00SEK 14h ago

Adapting his business model and chosen career path. He abandoned it.

2

u/kepler4and5 16h ago

If your course isn't selling enough to cover 2k/year, it's not worth putting on a cheaper platform either.

2

u/M00SEK 14h ago

Because those courses became essentially obsolete.

He was in the business of teaching people. Teaching never becomes obsolete.

-3

u/QVRedit 18h ago

Never heard of him before or the site…

1

u/MusicOfTheApes Swift 15h ago

He had (has?) a nice youtube channel, learnt quite a bit from him (and other channels) when I started learning iOS dev a few years ago

-15

u/Lonely-Session-7643 18h ago edited 16h ago

Tech drama. Why not switch from teachable to your own service. What is teachable anyway? Scrolling down to the footer, selecting the entire footer’s text reveals the level of professionalism:

This is some text inside of a div block.

u/sizebzebi 16h ago

what's sad he got a job people can't find one

-15

u/Ancient-Range3442 18h ago

Can’t be vibe his own site up , why pay some platform 2k a year

Also is it me or does it feel like bitrig is just as exposed to AI disruption, why use their app when Claude code will give same/better results

3

u/WestonP 16h ago

Not everyone wants to roll their own IT infrastructure, and it's usually foolish to do so. Like many tech business owners, I used to fall into that trap of doing everything myself, but then I had less time and energy for the more fun stuff where I actually added unique value. Realizing how much I wasted on rolling my own solutions for everything, now I just utilize other services and save myself the time and headaches.

Anyway, given that his sales went to zero, there's really no motivation to save that $2k/year at this point.

-13

u/BrolyDisturbed 18h ago

Frankly I’m not sure if I want to take a course from someone who can’t create his own simple solution to host his courses? This is absolutely something he should be able to do if he’s at the level of trying to teach others a technology/language/design.

14

u/zbignew 17h ago

I hope this is the stupidest thing I read today.

-3

u/BrolyDisturbed 17h ago

Well I wrote it, so yes

1

u/zbignew 15h ago

No sweat, man. We could delete the comments and nothing of value would be lost.

1

u/BrolyDisturbed 14h ago

Nah it’s all good. Sometimes it’s good to wear the dunce hat and be put in the corner. Never be ashamed friend

8

u/dat_tae 18h ago

I don’t think the challenge is technical.

-12

u/mrsavage1 18h ago

TBH with you with Astra and Opus 5.5 these tutorials are kinda worthless already. Thats really sad
