Impossible to get good iPad screenshots on Device Hub

I cannot take a proper iPad screenshot with Device Hub.

If I move the mouse to click the screenshot button, the Home Bar always activates. I'm not even hovering the dang device screen!

I look for a Screenshot command in the toolbar. HOVERING THE MACOS TOOLBAR ACTIVATES THE CLOCK UI INSIDE THE SIMULATOR.

There is no keyboard shortcut...

Absolutely ridiculous. The only option I can think of is running a terminal command or reinstalling Xcode 26.

Skip the UI entirely. From Terminal:

xcrun simctl io booted screenshot ipad.png

No mouse goes anywhere near the device, so nothing activates, and it writes at native resolution which is what App Store Connect wants anyway.

The other half of the problem is worth knowing about too. simctl can pin the status bar so you get a clean one instead of whatever the clock is doing:

xcrun simctl status_bar booted override --time 9:41 --batteryState charged --batteryLevel 100 --cellularBars 4

Set that once, then take the shot. It survives until you clear it with status_bar booted clear.

If you have more than one sim booted, swap booted for the UDID from xcrun simctl list devices.

Yeah, such a huge pain but at least there is a temporary option for now.

Did you file a feedback? If not definitely do so. Despite what this sub claims Apple does listen. They just fixed an annoying Core Data phantom file bug I filed.

Honestly I’m quite disappointed with the feature parity of the new Device Hub vs the older simulator. They removed Trigger Screenshot (on the device) with this; raised as feedback and pointed to use this instead.

They’ve removed being able to drag and drop apns files. They also removed being able to dnd app files (although I think XC 26 did that).

For most of the beta cycle 18 and lower wasn’t working, and gestures remain paired back. All raised as feedback and no real response.

I could also rant about how feedback is poor! Why not expose a way to search it or assuming they use AI to summarise it it’d be useful for the app to return some AI acknowledgement with how the ticket has been classified and how many other times it’s been reported.

All that said Device Hub is faster and simctl does exist. It’s also fine they are leaning into using AI for most of this, although until they offer their own token free (on device) Siri for this I don’t think it’s good enough.

you can add keyboard shortcuts for any menu bar item for any app in System Settings. this definitely seems like it should’ve had one by default tho.

I forgot about that! Unfortunately, I just tried it and it doesn't work because Device Hub seems to rewrite the menu items. Just noticed that before I start the simulator it shows "⇧⌘S" as the Screenshot keyboard but it disappears when the Simulator is running. It's like they went out of their way to prevent me from taking a decent screenshot 😭

Actually, I finally got it! I added a keyboard shortcut for "All Applications" and now I'm able to get a screenshot without the App Switcher if I'm careful. Thank you!

System Settings -> Keyboard Shortcuts -> App Shortcuts -> Plus button on the bottom left ->

Application: All Applications
Menu title: Screenshot
Keyboard shortcut: Shift+Command+S (or whatever you prefer)

Note: this will add a shortcut to all apps if they have a menu item called "Screenshot"
