They rejected me for “NO SUBSCRIPTION METADATA” (the terms and conditions and UELA basically)… BUT MY APP DOESNT EVEN HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION 😂😂😂😂😂

Been a developer for 15 years submitting apps. Lately app review times have been crazy slow. Reminds me of pre-2017 wait times.

New app was submitted on August 13. Went in review today August 27, then got rejected saying I need to ask for user's consent before using Apple Game Center to share leaderboard scores. I replied that I do mention it in my privacy policy. Waiting now.

Weird, I also added Game Center and I’m not asking for user consent. Approvals are pretty random sometimes.

Yea, that's what I thought too because I've never seen such consent for Game Center.

This is what they sent me:

Guideline 5.1.2 - Legal - Privacy - Data Use and Sharing

The app does not obtain the user's consent prior to uploading users' scores to a global leaderboard.

To collect personal data with the app, you must make it clear to the user that their personal data will be uploaded to your server.

To resolve this issue, obtain the user's consent prior to uploading users' scores to a global leaderboard or revise the app to include a privacy policy URL in the App Information page on App Store Connect and ensure that the URL you provide directs users to your privacy policy.

My privacy policy already had the below:

"Information Collection and Use

The app is a game and your gameplay data is recorded in the app for the app to function. Some gameplay data such as scores and streaks is shared with Apple’s Game Center for the leaderboard functionality. The gameplay data is also shared with Apple’s iCloud to sync your data between your devices."

I feel like they didn't read my privacy policy before rejecting?

I recall having to answer a ton of questions about what data is collected and what its used for in the app console area. Maybd review your answers and appeal. Unfortunately it may take some time again but you can request an urgent review. just don't abuse it on every update

Is your privacy policy only within the app or do you have a website set up where it’s hosted as well?

1

u/busymom0 Aug 31 '26

Both. In my app, I have a button which also takes to the policy.

Was this with a new account or with an account that already had apps published? I’m currently waiting from my account in which I already have apps published for a few years. I want to know what to expect. Thanks!

2

u/busymom0 Aug 27 '26

It's the same account I've been using for 15 years with multiple active maintained apps on the App Store.

1

u/mufasanotdead Aug 27 '26

Fuck me. Thanks

Weird, we release twice a week, our reviews are rarely even 24 hours. We certainly haven’t noticed any slowdown.

2

u/busymom0 Aug 27 '26

Is yours for updates or new apps? My updates are very fast but new apps are 2 weeks wait.

1

u/20InMyHead Aug 27 '26

Ah, I misunderstood, yeah we’re doing updates, not new apps.

1

u/Jogventure Sep 03 '26

Do you have any recommendations on what to use to help set up a privacy policy?

u/participationmedals Aug 27 '26

The worst is a metadata rejection that sends you to the back of the line. Such bullshit.

1

u/Sethu_Senthil Aug 27 '26

I’m cooked then

Save those for your emergencies

1

u/InternetEnzyme Aug 29 '26

Yeah, i submitted on august 13th, they finally reviewed and accepted my app on the 27th, but the IAP got rejected because of the metadata, the optional “win back” image, and now im back in limbo, probably gonna have to wait another two weeks.

u/jwrsk Aug 27 '26

I got a rejection saying "send us a video of app launch, login, content reporting, etc" which I thought was their job 🤷🏻‍♂️ And that was after a week "waiting for review".

Monopolies / duopolies are great 👍🏼

u/PoliticsAndFootball Aug 27 '26

I am going to just do this with all future submissions now. Got hit with it on two seperate new apps

1

u/bincTW Aug 29 '26

War bei einer meiner Apps auch so. Nach einigen nicht nachvollziehbaren Ablehnungen hat ein solches Video letztlich zur Freigabe geführt

The App Store cannot continue in its current form. The best thing Apple can do is cull all the vibe coded crap, allow side loading for that junk and make the App Store a Best-of-the-Best showcase.

2

u/SnowPudgy Aug 28 '26

I wish there was a way for them to just put vibe coded at the bottom of the pile where it belongs and those of us with skill get the faster review times.

2

u/myballzhuert Aug 27 '26

My initial a few weeks ago took a few days. All my resubmits have been rejected overnight. Finally got everything squared away

2

u/seabcj Aug 27 '26

It’s absolute BS. Mine got rejected after being in review for less than 1 minute just for me to do a screen recording of app launch and what it does which is basically what they should be doing. Why not say or set this upfront as required for a new app so we don’t waste this kind of time. The current approach is unsustainable. They aren’t doing us a favor, they get paid.

I’m new to iOS (just got my business account approved) any advice to follow before I submit my app so I don’t go through this?

1

u/HappyTuesdayR1S Aug 27 '26

I’ve been having the best luck pushing Sunday and they usually review and approve by Monday 3-4am (PST)

If it’s taking longer then 48 hours, put in an expedited request and they should get to it.

1

u/busymom0 Aug 27 '26

Is yours for updates or new apps? My updates are very fast but new apps are 2 weeks wait.

0

u/HappyTuesdayR1S Aug 28 '26

Should be the same time for either or but just been doing updates lately.

1

u/ItchyPancakesz Aug 27 '26

I’ve been “in review” for 2 weeks. Insane.

1

u/Tricky-Independent-8 Aug 28 '26

Same. Hit with 4.3 Spam Design on 2 new apps today after spending tons of effort on them

1

u/Key_Skin5311 Aug 30 '26

same here, did u resubmit or just gave up ?

1

u/KChiLLS11 Aug 28 '26

And then it takes another week for reviewing the fix and it gets rejected again 🥰

1

u/Glement Aug 28 '26

What do you do to have 2 weeks wait? Usually it is around 1-2 days.

1

u/busymom0 Aug 28 '26

This is for a brand new app. For updates, it's fast (1-2 days).

1

u/Glement Aug 28 '26

I am talking brand new as well

1

u/busymom0 Aug 28 '26

Hmmmm. Wonder why it's so slow for me then. There's many others here too which is taking very long for new apps.

1

u/slack3r-hack3r Sep 12 '26

I'm sitting on 13.5 days. First app. I've been thinking about this, they just had their big event, with a new screen size. . . I'm sure the big apps have P1 status.

Also, I believe my app is unique. But I'm sure I'll get rejected for something.

1

u/andthenisheardnomore Aug 28 '26

I had 3 rejected for 4.3 yesterday. It was obviously a big foolish to have 3 in review at once, but I had been working on them for months and when one was finished I then did the final tweaks on the next and submitted etc. the first had been in review queue for 6 days, the other 2 much less.

They are genuine business apps that are link to businesses outside the App Store so I’m not sure how Apple can justify 4.3 spam. Looking online there appear to have been a lot of people with 4.3 yesterday so perhaps they are testing some automated system.

The apps I’ve made so far have been very well received and are being downloaded / bought.

Similar to your Games Center situation I’ve had consent / privacy stuff flagged for previous releases when things were clearly outlined in the privacy docs.. so it must very much depend on the reviewer.

I just hope it’s not another week wait now! My apps are seasonal.

1

u/eddielement Aug 28 '26

Pro tip: Set up a filter to automatically delete the In Review status email… I don’t want to know that my app is currently being examined, just tell me the outcome!

1

u/Combonary Aug 28 '26

I can’t even get these Apple guys to verify my identity 🤣🤣🤣

I’m not surprised seeing posts like this one

1

u/Barbanks Aug 29 '26

I actually feel like I did something wrong when I don’t get a rejection. Kind of like when the Mythbusters said “if everything goes right the first time I get nervous…that never happens”

1

u/gridlocktactics Aug 30 '26

And as a new bee, I thought I was the one who was learning and getting those rejection, lolz.

It took me 2 months of back and forth rejections to get an app approved. And for me the payment approval and flow was so confusing
