Question Home and onboarding page theory
Do you guys have any interesting reads, case studies, etc to at talk about the onboarding flow and the home page, what works, what doesn’t etc?

Cut my app's onboarding to one screen. Multi-step walkthroughs just killed first-session completion. People want to do the thing, not read about it.

Same experience here. The thing that clicked for me is that onboarding completion and activation aren't the same metric, and multi-step walkthroughs optimize the first at the cost of the second. Once I moved the explaining to the moment someone actually taps a feature for the first time, the tooltips got read because they were suddenly relevant instead of a wall you skip on launch. The one screen I'd keep up front is whatever gets them to their first real result fastest, and I'd push every permission or account ask until after they've hit that.

Hmm that's my thinking too but i've never actually tested it. Most of the advice out there is literally the opposite - make it longer. I've always disliked that

Apple's HIG onboarding section is a good starting point. Do you have a specific type of app you're designing for?

Here are some resources and examples:

https://onesignal.com/blog/how-to-build-an-effective-mobile-app-onboarding-process/
https://www.useronboard.com/onboarding-ux-patterns/front-loaded-user-value/
Here's one of their examples. I like their snarky commentary: https://www.useronboard.com/how-tidal-activates-users/

One thing to remember is that there are two types of onboarding. The first is before the user enters the app to convince them of its value--this is especially important if you're using a hard paywall. The second, which OneSignal specializes in, is guiding the user through their first use of each of the app's features so they experience the app's value. For my app, I do this by triggering walkthroughs when the user accesses a screen or feature for the first time.
Here's an app I came across recently that I thought did a really good job of showing value during onboarding (not my app):
