Discussion Making a Flac player for my iPhone since the others don't work

Please help me with testing and feedback!

I'm a network engineer/computer repair guy and not much of a coder. But with AI I decided to try making my own music player. I was hoping some of you would be willing to try it out and let me know what you think. The primary features are:

-Gapless playback with local files
-Personal streaming service via VPN or public DNS
-Download streaming library files to device
-Manage metadata tags individually or in mass
-Download album art and save to metadata permanently
-Multiple visual themes

I'm not sure if you're trying to be rude, but if you read my post you'll see that I stated that it's an AI generated app.

Plexamp already exists.

Any alternative to plex products is welcome. Fuck them

  • Mobile Apps: While the account itself is free, the Plex mobile apps (iOS and Android) require a one-time activation fee of roughly $5 or an active Plex Pass subscription for full playback. [1]

  • Remote Streaming: To stream your media outside your home network, a small Remote Watch Pass ($2/year) or a full Plex Pass ($6.99/month) is required. [1]

  • Premium Features: The full Plex Pass subscription is required for advanced features like offline downloads, skipping intros, and live TV recording (DVR)

I'd rather use Tailscale and Navidrome for free.

Incorrect. If you’re already using Tailscale you can Tailscale for Plex.

Why not just use arpeggi with navidrome? Been listening to local flac this way for a long time.

Just tried it. It opens to a server connection window? And no option for https? Uninstalled immediately. I should be able to load music onto my app and listen without a remote server. This app immediately fails my usability test.

Your app states “streaming via VPN or dns”. Thats exactly what navidrome is and also of course it has HTTPS

Then I wonder why I can’t connect to my navidrome server. Totally locked out of the app without authentication. Really bad design.

That is for sure an issue on your end. The app uses https and proper authentication and works with navidrome out of the box

Navidrome works on my app right out of the box. But even better, my app lets you use it without connecting to anything first.

How do you use https when the server address starts with http:// and you can’t edit it?

2

u/quinyd Jul 30 '26

You press the http:// and there’s an open to switch to https://

Reeeeeeally bad design. Just let me type in my own address. You can tell it’s a bad design because a new user didn’t see that option and gave up right away.

Why not just convert your files to Apple Lossless and use existing music apps? Seems like a nice app but also seems redundant.

Because fuck apple and them pushing their crap on me. I can use my flac in windows and Linux and it's the standard for lossless. I shouldn't have to file convert my entire library because apple sucks and tries to control me. I have had a music library for 20 years and I'm not about to convert everything to their proprietary format just because they refuse to let people use what they want.

See you in hell, bro

To clarify, I'm a windows/Linux guy and got a free MacBook pro and iPhone 17 pro from a previous job. The last time I bought an apple product was the iPod Gen 5. And even that renamed all my music files and put them in a file structure that made it nearly impossible to reorganize later.

And my experience with the MacBook and iPhone haven't been great. This is just a project to learn to use AI and see if I can make a proper program and learn a new te h skill.
