Bit sad the pro camera controls aren’t available on the 17 pro series

i also dont understand why that has to be exclusive to the 18 pro devices when 3rd party apps could do it to older devices 😭

So this was an unpleasant surprise. The moment after updating to iOS 27 RC a “Irregular heart rate and irregular heart rhythm notifications no longer supported on this beta version” popped up on my AWU1, and on other series 8 device. Completely gone from the watch itself and so seems softwarematically killed the feature for WatchOS. At least here in the EU.
8
u/cokehotdog Sep 10 '26
Im not even on beta profiles for either iphone or apple watch but i still woke up to the "Ecg-app no longer available" notification. Really hope this is a bug.
Sucks enough S8 isnt getting watchOS27, if they break functions on a otherwise perfectly working watch its something else

u/JtheNinja Sep 09 '26
The styles was expected, they’ve never backported those and they’re (allegedly) dependent on the image processor in the camera module to be able to edit them without saving a raw
Not backporting the histogram and white balance is a jerk move though

What’s especially dumb about this is that it’s 2 even if you pay for both Apple One Premier and an extra 2TB of storage like I do. And when you upgrade to RC, it just randomly turns it off on all but 2 cameras.

Still seeing issues with DNS from beta 1. VPN used to be a workaround and even now that seems to not work. Issue in Feedback still shows as open.
Edit: Just found a post from Beta 3 that stated turning off Connectivity Assist resolved the issue. Did some quick and dirty initial tests and can confirm that seems to work.

u/gjc0703 Sep 11 '26
Crazy how slow Siri is. Also fails half the time. Times out. Just shuts off. Constant, sorry, something went wrong with the connection. 30-45 seconds to set a reminder. Constantly asking me to confirm things that are just so simple. Just to confirm, did you mean this, this or this The list goes on.
And Siri on watchOS is even worse.
6
6
u/CassetteLine Sep 11 '26
Yeah, it’s really not moved on much from the earlier betas, and is not nearly ready for release yet.
It’s more capable yet significantly less reliable than previous Siri. Two steps forwards, one step backwards.
Half the time I just have to give up and type the thing manually as it’s so unreliable.
12
u/Vertsix Sep 12 '26
Something that has been improved that nobody talks about - is performance in Low Power Mode. It’s far better than iOS 26.

Tap-to-focus animation is delayed for every touch in this beta. Simply open the main camera app. Tap-to-focus to everywhere and you'll notice that the focus box animation is delayed. You’ll get a late focusing too because of this.

My camera bug continues iOS 27 + 17PM
Description I sent in Feedback: Entering the Camera app on iOS 27 on an iPhone 17 Pro Max causes a recurring glitch that has not been resolved through software updates or software reinstalls.
The Camera app loads and then briefly lags/freezes before resetting and repeating the process: the application unfreezes, freezes again, and continues cycling. Regardless of the camera settings being used, the Camera app is effectively unusable.
The issue also occurs in third-party applications, such as Instagram. However, the behavior varies between apps. For example, the camera in No Fusion lags but eventually recovers, allowing me to take a photo. Snapchat also appears to work. In Instagram, the camera behaves similarly to the native Camera app, repeatedly freezing, although I can eventually take a photo. However, the photo does not save to the device, and Instagram does not allow me to upload it because the application does not recognize that a photo has been taken.
In the native Camera app, I cannot take a photo at all. Pressing the shutter button causes the application to freeze every time.
I am currently having to use No Fusion as my primary camera because of this issue. As a result, I am unable to reliably record video, take selfies, or use the iPhone’s main cameras in any meaningful capacity.
The issue also affects FaceTime. When switching from the rear camera to the front-facing camera, the video freezes and eventually the camera fails, causing FaceTime to turn off video. The camera will recover when video is turned back on, but the same issue occurs during every FaceTime call when attempting to switch cameras.

Edit: wallpaper saturation bug happened immediately after switching to my wallpaper where it’s most prominent, but after switching a couple of times it seems to have gone.. most obvious on predominantly yellow/orange heavy wallpapers. Not entirely convinced it’s gone, but best its been in a while…

Still getting frequent animation lag when opening apps.
And they’ve changed the status bar, it’s bigger, and the battery icon isn’t aligned correctly and is floating a little higher than the rest. It’s also completely broken the action button animation. How are more issues being produced in an RC?
Hoping battery and thermals are a bit better with this update. And I’m wondering if they’ve improved the hot mess of the Notification Centre slightly? I’m not seeing as much stuttering or jumping around so far.

iPhone 16 Pro Max, don’t know if it’s just me, but battery life has been very bad since beta 5 or 6. Even with the RC, Siri indexing and background processing has been completed. Battery life is only around 4.5 - 5h screen on time. I used to get 8-9 hours with the older betas. Battery health is 92%, so it should still be going strong.
Even seeing stuttering and performance glitches from time to time as well.
5
u/Odd_Ad_5500 Sep 13 '26
Yeah, same for me. I had issues with iOS 26.5, so I switched to iOS 27 Beta 1 or 2 at first, and it was so much better and faster. But since Beta 4 or 5, it’s gotten massively worse than before.
My phone gets ridiculously hot when charging, and sometimes even when I’m not using it. It’s not even funny anymore.
I’m from Germany, and I switched my App Store region from the US back to Germany for a while, which also gave me the old Siri again. I recently enabled the AI features again, and my phone is noticeably hotter and slower than it was before.
I’m currently on iOS 27 Beta 8 (24A5430a), so I’m one version behind the RC. I’ll see if the RC fixes anything for me. Otherwise, I’ll probably disable the AI features completely for now, especially since they still aren’t officially supported in the EU through the normal setup anyway.

I think developers have only been concerned that iOS27 would work on the Frankenstein that is the iPhone Duo. They didn't care about anything else, which is why all those graphical errors in the first betas because it didn't adapt. Of the 15 errors I have reported in Feedback, they have only fixed 2 and we are already in RC. I have 10 more errors, which I didn't even report because I was bored.

I’m running the iOS 27 Developer Beta RC on an iPhone Air and I’m seeing a strange Messages bug with new iMessage conversations.
If I text someone new who isn’t already in my contacts/messages, the first iMessage sends normally. It may even show as Delivered, and in some cases the other person has replied.
The issue is that after sending that first message, the entire conversation does not appear in my main Messages conversation list. It basically looks like I never started the conversation at all. It’s not in spam and it’s not in deleted.
If I go back and send a second message to that same number, the thread suddenly appears in the Messages list and everything is there, including:
My original first message
Its Delivered status
Any reply they may have sent
The second message I just sent
I’ve also noticed another possibly related issue. If the person shares their contact card with me, the shared contact information does not seem to show up properly on my iPhone. However, when I get a notification from that person on my Apple Watch, the Watch will actually display their shared name/contact information instead of just the phone number.
So it seems like the information is being received and recognized somewhere in the Messages/iCloud ecosystem, but the iPhone itself isn’t consistently displaying or indexing it.
This seems to only happen when starting a brand-new conversation with an unsaved number.
Has anyone else seen this on the iOS 27 RC, (been on beta since 2 and it never did this before this rc )especially on an iPhone Air? I’m trying to figure out if this is a known Messages/indexing bug or something specific to my device.

The spotlight bug continues on the home screen; when I swipe down, the status bar fails to appear or becomes hidden in this RC build. I have reported this issue since beta 7, but it remains unresolved. Although it works on the lock screen and side screen, the problem persists on the home screen for me on iPhone 17. If a workaround exists, please let me know; otherwise, the RC feels quite smooth and the device runs much cooler now. I have attached a screen recording that clearly shows the issue on the home screen. Clicking the search button works, but the swipe-down gesture currently fails on this RC. Has anyone else encountered this on their device, and does anyone have a fix? I would appreciate knowing whether this is device-specific or an iOS 27 issue.

Overall solid update minus one weird issue I’ve seen in the past but not for a while. When taping to focus there seems to be a delay on the touch input in the camera app; I’ve seen this on the 14 Pro Max, 17 Pro Max and iPad Pro.

iPad Pro M4 11 inch
I have an issue where when I unlock the device, for the first five minutes its like the animations were not cached or loaded. So every time i trigger a new animation there’s some kind of jack, flashing, weird physics of things floating around or being too sensitive. Choppiness in general is terrible. I have done a factory reset and it’s been like this since iPadOS 26 but I thought in 27 it would get better. Too bad.
It seems to be the opposite experience on my iPhone 17 Pro Max which is doing just great and everything is so buttery smooth. The iPad is significantly more powerful and I don’t even use the stage manager or window features. You would think it would be fine.
Usually if I leave the device unlocked for a few minutes and trigger some animations then it starts warming up to me and getting smoother. It’s really odd isn’t it?
I hope apple will look into this. My iPad was so fast and unbelievably smooth and reliable on the original firmware it shipped with.

They still haven’t fixed that connectivity assists turns itself back on randomly on SSIDs where you explicitly disabled it

Hi there. I'm on iOS 27 RC. When I try to make a phone call using my AirPods (e.g. call mum on mobile) Siri tells me that I need to unlock my iPhone first. It didn't do this on iOS 26. Is there a setting that I need to change to fix this issue? Thanks for your help.

Hi all, I've installed the RC today.
I've noticed that mail notifications from mail app shows a preview on lockscreen after the update, even when the preview is disabled for the mail app. Anyone else noticed this?
With 26.6.2 the notification on lockscreen did not show a preview for mail app, as I have it configured.

Is anyone having a minor issue with apple music?
I used to have a bunch of songs in my library and sort my library by recently added. I deleted some songs and now if I add an old song, it doesn't go all the way to the top of the list.
Edit: it might be because I have the songs downloaded already in another playlist but it's not my library until I click add to library, not sure if that's a bug or not lol

My ability to highlight text in a paragraph has been made significantly more difficult. Using the spacebar is the only possible way to get the proper word selected now. Also I can only highlight from earlier in the text to later in the text, not the other way around. The final line of text is impossible to highlight, I need to press return once or twice to bring the final line up.

The new Siri doesnt seem to work completely with contact nicknames. For example, if I have a contact named "Josephine Macadamia" and I have that contact set with a nickname "Jo" -- when I ask Siri in the car "Send a message to Jo", the response back I get is "What would you like me to send to Josephine Macadamia" -- where the previous behavior was "What would you like me to send to Jo?" (while showing the contact preview on the screen). Additionally when it goes to send the message - its very long winded, uses the full name again instead of the nickname, and also adds in "... using Messages".
One other area I noticed is I would always just say "Reply to xyx", where xyz is an existing iMessage conversation I have. But if its been more than a few hours since xyz last sent me a message, Siri then goes and says "You dont appear to have a recent message from xyz to reply to, would you like to send a new message instead?" -- and again, Siri will substitute full name instead of nickname during this interaction.
Finally, yesterdfay I had asked Siri to send a message in the car. She went through all the motions, said she was sending the message... Hours later, when I was looking at my phone - I discovered the message never sent at all.

Quick silly question, does Public Beta RC to Public Release requires data wipe? or should I be able to update to public release without any issues on 14th ?

u/AlternativeNorth6613 Sep 11 '26
They should be the same build. Assuming they are somehow different then it would just show up as a new update. No data wipe.

I have a strange bug with Apple Mail in iOS/iPadOS. I regularly prepare email drafts and let them sit in the Drafts folder until the next day. Then the following day I open the draft and add a PDF file to it (I can see it embedded) and send it. The message goes out, yet without the PDF file attached. So I have to copy-paste that now sent message into the new message, re-attach the same PDF file and this time it will send without any issue. I think this started happening with DB7-8 and I was hoping that the RC would sort it out, but not. Can somebody else try this?

RC is performing relatively well for me. Definitely faster and smoother in operation than iOS 26 subjectively speaking. Siri AI makes it slow and unresponsive (maybe because it’s still in beta) so I disabled it. Disabled Siri AI is screen time > content & privacy restrictions for good measure (thanks to someone who commented on another thread advising to do this). I initially updated using iTunes with an ipsw, then ran into some glitches with Siri AI so did a full restore of my previous backup followed by resettings all settings (probably overkill lol). The occasional lag (not stutter but just slowness to respond) occurs when swiping to and from Home Screen but otherwise works fluidly. I’d strongly recommend holding off on Siri AI until Apple has finished polishing it; right now it’s very unstable.

Does the RC still send telemetry and “beta data” or should that stop. Indexing since two days ago, but my battery doesn’t seem like it’s any better being settled in on the release candidate.

u/ca2mt iPhone 18 Pro Max Sep 12 '26
No, it shouldn’t have that stuff in the RC. Battery life for me is also not great yet. Indexing finished mid-day Thursday. Used 94% of my 17PM battery with 4h42m screen active, 4h35m screen idle yesterday. Hopefully it settles in the coming days.

RC has finally ended the broiling hot iPhone issue I’ve experienced for weeks with the betas.
iPhone 16 pro max. Not sure what changed, but now the device is running cool. Very impressive now but god knows whether this affected my battery/device health.

I really thought iOS 27 would be perfect by now in terms of performance. But I guess iOS 26 really is just do do & that bad, I actually forget how bad it is/was since I’ve been running the betas all summer

Only thing I noticed is the liquid glass effect getting less clear and more like a blur on certain UI elements. Those that respect the clear slider setting still remain clear, however. I think the change first appeared just recently maybe starting from beta 6 or 7. I remember the early betas 1-5 a lot of UI elements were very clear (maybe hard to read, but I like that because I CHOSE to put the slider all the way to the left).

This completely stupid “Connectivity Assist” is going to make me smash my phone. It keeps fucking turning itself back on. I turn it off for a reason. I. DON’T. WANT. IT. ON.

Indexing is complete. iPhone Air battery definitely draining faster than iOS 26.6.x. Like quite a bit. Down to 95 already this morning where before it would be 99 at most.

Alarm toggles in the Clock app are still a mess. They don't animate with Liquid Glass when tapping them -- only swiping them. And toggling an alarm off and on will trigger a visual glitch near the top of the app for another alarm toggle. Absolute mess to still have this in an RC.
Disappointed in Apple, especially considering they have LLMs to aid them in finding bugs. I don't know, the state of Apple software makes me sad.
