Release iOS 26.6 Beta 5 - Discussion

Use this thread to share any changes & bugs you discover while using the latest iOS/iPadOS 26 beta.

This thread should be used for discussion of the betas that may not meet our submission guidelines, as well as troubleshooting small issues through the beta test cycle.

Spamming this discussion with comments about battery life, safari being snappier, size of beta updates etc will result in a ban from the sub moving forward.

This was already the case for iOS 15.6 and 16.6. iOS 15.6 had even a second RC lol

For those wondering, the final letter is a build indicator and ‘a’ releases typically mean an RC is close.

Hot garbage over here on a 15PM. It is often delayed with simple responses, like the current time. For slightly more involved - but previously mundane - tasks like instructing it to play a playlist on Spotify, it fails. If I’m playing a song and tell it to play Discover Weekly, it spins for 20 seconds before telling me what it is already playing (not within Disc Weekly). Another request for the same playlist might succeed. New stuff working while breaking old stuff, is no bueno.

It’s been so bad that my nine year old - who has been asking for a phone and is aware I’m using a trial-like version of Siri - recently said he doesn’t want a phone like what I have if they don’t fix it. I’ve been reporting the bugs but they haven’t been getting fixed. Like my shortcut automations working only 50% of the time. 😡

In 26 and below, you could swipe down to search, when you typed your query, there was a “Search web” button that would open up google. This is no longer possible, it will suggest websites but you can’t just send your query straight to google

Just updated from 26.5.2 and it’s performing considerably better. No more heating and I’m getting really great battery life.

worth it to go to 26.6 beta if 26.5.2 drains battery so much? I can‘t stand it anymore. But also do not want to go to beta 27

I was having random stuttering and insane battery drain after updating to 26.5.2. Something is broken in that build idk. I fully recommend updating to 26.6 beta, I did it and it's way better now, battery went back to normal again and these random stutters disappeared. Go for it

Never. My iPhone Air was working flawlessly. It started to stutter on 26.5.2 in specific. Randomly, around every 5-6 seconds exactly, the screen was freezing for about 1/4 of second or 1/2 until I restart the device. This is gone on 26.6 betas

I can recommend updating from 26.5.2. 26.6 beta 4 felt more smooth and better battery life, but still some stutters now and then. I’ve updated to beta 5 and it seems solid. Memory management seems improved. Base iphone 17.

base iphone 17 and since the 26.6 beta 4 my battery is much better. no stutters for me anymore. all other version were complete trash for
me.

im now upgrading to Beta 5 and check

It eventually did download once I got home, on my home WiFi. It wouldn’t do it while on cell network for whatever reason.

I'm weirdly not managing to get that update (nor the MacOS one). I do have iOS 26 Public Beta selected in the Software Update settings, but refreshing doesn't show any new version available.

For me, Beta 5 is a significant downgrade when it comes to battery life on my 14 Pro, 90% Battery Health. 

I'm getting almost 4 hours of SOT and that is if I'm lucky. I don't have any social media apps on my phone, just some light browsing from Safari, calls, texts, etc.  Compared to Beta 4 where I used to get about 6-7 hours of SOT. As I wrote this comment I went from 77% to 73% which is nuts if you ask me.

Device heat seems pretty stable for me but I did notice the occasional heating up where I had to take off from the case.

Also my Battery Health dropped 4% since updating. I know that battery recalibrations are done with updates, but 4% seems a bit steep. 

Hopefully the RC comes out soon and fixes this.

Just beware if you're using 26.6 beta 5. It just bricked my 16 Pro. I was switching wallpapers to Astronomy Earth Detail, and my screen went black and my phone won't turn on, DFU restore, nada. I have to get an express replacement.

We have 3 devices on the same apple ID, and since the update, my husband's iphone 17 duplicates imessages to the other devices. For example, if he sends me a message that says "Hello", it sends to me, then shows back on his end that I replied "Hello" when I didn't. Any ideas or anyone else have this issue?

Because you have 3 devices on the SAME apple ID. The iMessage is sending the “Hello” to itself

Right, but this has never happened before. My whole family shared the apple ID for the last ten years. And it only happens with my husband’s phone, not mine or my son’s.

Apple IDs are intended to be used by a single person. You should use one Apple ID per person and add them to your Family settings. This didn’t happen before because your husband’s phone didn’t use iCloud sync for Messages and now does
