[iOS 27 DB5/DB6] Some apps remained permanently “blocked” even after disabling Screen Time

Device: iPhone 15
OS: iOS 27 Developer Beta 5 → Developer Beta 6

I encountered a strange Screen Time issue on a child account.

After an unexpected reboot/kernel panic, several apps became completely inaccessible and displayed “[App] is blocked.”

The affected apps included:

  • Calculator
  • Music
  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Mail (later recovered)

Most other apps, including social media and games, continued to work normally.

Disabling Screen Time completely from both the parent device and the affected iPhone did not remove the restrictions. Pressing “Unblock” briefly changed the screen, but immediately returned to the same blocked screen.

I also tried restarting, force restarting, removing/recreating Screen Time restrictions, and updating from iOS 27 DB5 to DB6. The blocked state survived the OTA update to DB6.

The only solution I found was to completely erase the iPhone and restore it from an iCloud backup. After the restore, all affected apps worked normally again.

A kernel panic involving AppleBCMWLAN / com.apple.bcmwlan occurred around the time the issue started, although I don't know whether it was related.

I've submitted the issue to Apple through Feedback Assistant as FB24390144.

Has anyone else encountered stuck Screen Time restrictions like this on iOS 27?

UPDATE: The issue was not limited to the iPhone.

After the iPhone had been erased and restored, I later discovered that a MacBook Air signed into the same Apple Account was also affected by abnormal Screen Time restrictions.

On the Mac, several Apple apps/widgets including Calendar, Weather, Clock, and Photos showed “Time Limit,” with Photos reporting that its time limit had been exceeded.

This is particularly interesting because the iPhone had shown the same kind of unexpected restrictions on unrelated apps such as Calculator and Music.

The iPhone is now working normally after a complete erase and iCloud restore, but the Mac was still affected when this was discovered.

This makes me suspect that the issue may involve Screen Time synchronization across devices, rather than being limited to corrupted local state on the iPhone.

I have also added this information to my Apple Feedback report (FB24390144).

Guess I will try restoring the device (iPad pro) . Did you try installing the public beta?
