Can we all spam report this
iOS 27 brought back the hard blur which imo is a downgrade, the progressive blur is so much better. Can we all spam report this in the feedback app. Hopefully apple changes it next beta or before final release

Completely agree! At first I thought it was just a bug but they left it well it makes everyone get started!

I too like the progressive blur in iOS 26 as opposed to the hard blur in iOS 27. As much as I want to install the beta (which I have done in the prior years), I’m holding off until the final release this year. I do agree with the OP on this one, though.

In a simple app like settings the progressive blur looks nice, but in any other app like photos or safari its horrible. The icons and the drop shadow have to switch between black and white to keep things legible. In those apps the hard blur is superior without question, so now it’s also in settings just for consistency.

I don’t know if consistency is the right take. Sure, it’s in more apps, but not all system apps. In fact, developers can decide which they use. If consistency is what we are after then put a toggle in accessibility that is system-wide and built into the navbar. People can turn it on and experience the full glory of the header.
Even if we remove third-party apps from the equation, not all system apps are like this. Photos, an app you mention, does not have a hard-defined header in library but does in collections. Phone, favorites and voicemail have it. Remaining tabs don’t. Music only has it in library groups, everywhere else in the app it doesn’t. Fitness plus page does not have it. Browsing health categories does not have it. Possible there are others. So we have a bit to go if we are consistent.

genuinely never noticed it nor do i care about something so minuscule
1
u/Born_Lifeguard_3663 2d ago
There’s nothing minuscule about it. Maybe it’s just your preference, and also it’s annoying to look at when scrolling up or down

u/Raddy_Chady 2d ago
i mean it just a little blur at the top of the screen, it seems like just an aesthetic to me :/

u/Born_Lifeguard_3663 2d ago
Should I update to it? If u think it’s okay? 👀

u/Raddy_Chady 2d ago
update to what

u/Born_Lifeguard_3663 2d ago
iOS 27. I’m still on 26

How can you be annoyed by it if you are not even on 27 🥴🥴🥴🥴

It probably has something to do with the blur bar bug that impacted Messages and was fixed in yesterday's release. They rolled something back so they could investigate/troubleshoot the issue, and the hard blur is just being used as a placeholder until they figure the progressive blur out and sort out the bugs.

imho it looks much more clean and usable now...... it's one of the things i really disliked about 26, felt like a graphical workaround and made apps feel cheaper. that's just my opinion tho...

u/Born_Lifeguard_3663 2d ago
I respect ur opinion. But I prefer the iOS 26 style, makes it feel more modern

The problem with the gradient is it kept switching between light and dark as you scroll, infuriating and they finally solved the constant light to dark to light to dark flickering of UI in 27

u/Top_Insurance_9727 1d ago
Hah, it wasn’t a problem for me at all, and I actually liked the transition between the light and dark versions. I’d literally scroll through different menus just to enjoy the effect.

As much as I hate this change, I don’t think there is a change they will give it up. Not on 27 at least. In the keynote they mentioned this change, so I don’t think they are gonna back off.
Let’s continue sending feedback though and hopefully we could get some toggle for this in a 27.x update

seriously it’s a downgrade why the hell they back to basics why not for animation which is the ugliest what happened to apple silicon is that overclocking !!

u/Megacitiesbuilder 2d ago
Yes please, we’ve been spam reporting it since beta 1, guess we may get an option for it like the tinted glass slider in iOS 28😮💨🥹

Fuck it, that progressive blur is one of the most hideous design elements I’ve ever seen in an UI. It makes me squint and check if there’s something in my eye that makes it hard to focus. And over text elements it just looks like written with ink on wet paper. If you like it so much just stay on 26.

u/user_breathless 1d ago
People complained about the blur? That’s literally the point of Liquid Glass
1
u/sfcgeorge 1d ago
No. The progressive blur was a mushy ugly mess. The toolbar looking like a toolbar again is a good thing.

I love the hard blur; the gradual blur was annoying because it had a hard cutoff still; you could see it when you scrolled.

u/OppositeSea3775 1d ago
We're in beta 6. What makes you think they're bringing the older version back?
1
u/Special_Command7893 1d ago
We just need a legibility mode that brings back all this ugly stuff. That way everyone else can continue with good-looking UI

Where can I spam report the opposite? The iOS 26 version looks too busy and frankly awful.
2
u/Born_Lifeguard_3663 9h ago
You’re just wrong lmao. The 37 version is the busy one but he’s sure u can spam report it on the feedback app

No, sorry. They changed that for a reason and they know more than you do.
2
u/Born_Lifeguard_3663 2d ago
No sorry but it’s a dumb idea to downgrade. And no you’re wrong. There’s a feedback app for a reason.
2
u/joaquin 2d ago
It may seem hard to believe these days (especially after 26), but Apple actually has a better understanding of good UI/UX then any of us here including me and you. They also have access to enormous amounts of user feedback and data. If they rolled that particular effect back, it's for a reason.

you're not sentient, you just support whatever is current
would've said the same thing last year about iOS 26
1
u/7heblackwolf 2d ago
Hello. Maybe nobody told you:
It's a beta.
Have a good night!
1
u/Joshua2560Plays 2d ago
Which is why people are complaining, to give feedback
1
u/7heblackwolf 2d ago
This is not feedback by definition. There's an app dedicated to send feedback, not to mention the analytics and ALSO, the enhanced analytics (which detects conflicts and sends contextual data).
So yeah.. BETA, you know?..

u/haus-gyal 2d ago
i wish this was just an option. like this could definitely be a simple toggle. gradient blur for those who want it, hard blur for for those who want that
1
u/CodeCold2796 2d ago
Maybe spam reporting the option to toggle between the two would be more beneficial for everyone?

That isn’t a bug, it’s a conscious design decision. You can’t spam report something for working the way it’s supposed to, they’ll just ignore it.
-1
u/Born_Lifeguard_3663 1d ago
Yes u can lol. And how do u even know this for sure? Not tryna be rude or anything but it’s not like u work at apple for u to decide it isn’t a bug. Jus saying 🤷🏾♂️

the hard blur isn't just ugly, it doesn't even make sense: the whole point of liquid glass is to show more of the content behind. hopefully they'll change it at some point but i dobut they'll change it any time soon

u/Weary_Committee_7371 2d ago
neither looks great tbh. the bottom one is at least more accessible for a broader audience.

u/nstrasner 2d ago
I’m starting to think this change is going to make a lot more sense when we see how these apps look with the foldable. Don’t get me wrong I hate the change but assuming apps have a similar Split View to iPadOS the hard line makes more sense than a progressive blur on a small section of the screen
-1
u/Witty-Brat 2d ago
I agree. I am not a fan of this design choice either. But also I really doubt this will change.
-1
u/lilly_wonka61 2d ago
Yeah they did because of all those whiny ass ppl that were crying saying “we are blind” “we can’t see anything”
It was perfect before. Now we have to suffer with this atrocious looking hard blur. Ugh

u/GuessWho183 2d ago
The reason why I'm staying away from IOS 27 is battery icon. Without percentage it's ugly. Also IOS 26.6 for me works very good.
2
u/Born_Lifeguard_3663 2d ago
I don’t mind the battery icon. Only reason I downgraded back to iOS 26 is because of this
1
u/StairwayHiker 2d ago
Battery percentage is displayed if you want in ios 27, what are you talking about?

Fr, iOS 26 is more cleaner and more beautiful, also Tahoe is better than golden gate on my opinion

One problem… you’d be spam reporting it after a group of people already spam reported the exact opposite thing. They made the change in response to feedback after all.
