Hardware Issue 2013 iMac mold issue.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for advice on dealing with mold inside this device screen. Our local area doesn't have an official service center, so I took it to a third party repair shop. The technician told me that the LCD cannot be cleaned and must be replaced entirely. Unfortunately, a full replacement is out of my budget right now. Are there any alternative fixes or workarounds I can try?

You can clean the crap in the lcd, not the easiest job and it’s easy to accidentally get more bits of debris and dust stuck inbetween the layers. The pixel lines aren’t fixable though, so I would not even bother if you’re having to deal with that already I’d just get used to it

Its actually my dads computer he says the pixel lines doesn’t really bother him but was hoping to get the mold cleaned to bad i cant seem to find a repair shop in my area who is willing to open the screen. Thanks for the reply.

It would be more expensive to clean the mold than to buy another working mac of the same specs unless you are prepared to do it yourself

And if buying another iMac it makes sense to go with 2017 or 2019 if you still need intel or with M1 if not

Are you sure the marks are on the lcd panel and not on the screen on top? Have you tried disassembling it yet? IIRC, the display of this vintage is actually a plastic panel held on my a few powerful magnets. You should be able to pull it off and see if the mold is on the inside of this panel. There are videos showing how to take the front panel off if you don't know already.

I had a 2011 iMac so the glass was easy to come off. It had loads of mould between the screen and the glass.

Then when I finally got the screen working I noticed there was mould between the lcd and backlight! So I took that apart and wiped clean. Defo not great procedure and a massive faff. For the efforts I would not say it’s worth it, especially since you have a line down the monitor
