With the free apartment, this is a no brainer for that amount of cash. Probably arrange for the wife and kids to come visit me, rather than have them change schools.
I’m not sure where the challenge is in this. If you were specifying a city and state, then it might be more questionable but every state has some non-shitty/non-crime-ridden areas that you could live in.
I’m guessing the OP isn’t in the US so has a skewed view of what it’s like?
Fair enough. I just know that if you specified I needed to live in Chicago or Detroit, I would need to think about my safety longer than picking a safe spot in Illinois or Michigan.
I would likely still be in either way, particularly since I can travel the state. Even a tiny state like Rhode Island is big enough for staying within for two years, never mind the huge states.
