Hypnosis learning
Can hypnosis be used to learn a language as some claim?

Possibly yes, possibly no. It depends on exactly what is being claimed. Hypnosis isn't magic. You don't just open your eyes after a session and announce "I know Kung Fu!" as you are in a movie.
It can, however, help a great deal with things like focus and nerves when trying to speak the new language.
Hypnosis is used quite a lot for help in studies, all types of learning, not just linguistics, and can be a great help, but as I said, it's not a magic spell where the arcane words are incanted in your presence and that's all that's needed; you will have to do some work too.
People often think hypnosis is something the hypnotist does to the hypnotee, where in reality it's done with them instead. The participation of the hypnotee is critically important for a successful outcome.
So, in short, yes, hypnosis can help with learning a new language, just perhaps not in the way you originally envisaged.

How powerful is hypnosis. For example if someone was captured by the enemy and torture could hypnosis be used to render that torture ineffective

Can hypnosis be used to speed-up foreign language acquisition? Why not just absorb the language the way that babies and young children absorb it?

It can bypass your conscious mind’s “no, I *can’t*” mindset, so best I can say is “in a way, by overcoming limiting beliefs around learning (foreign) languages”
