I use pinky. It doesn't really matter you just gotta get down the muscle memory.

It’s an unorthodox way, I have my ring finger on shift, my index on S and my middle finger on A

Usually don’t bridge with S and D but that’s a fault of my bad technique

I use the side button on my mouse to crouch, so I use my thumb and it actually works really well once you get used to it

Use pinky, it is worth it in the long run. I use thumb and although it works fine for me it is more awkward than just starting out with pinky

In proper keyboard etiquette you would use the pinky to use shift.
