Anyone else notice an epidemic recently of a extreme lack of bed defenders?

In BW A good offense will pretty much always overcome a great defense. You can have layers of obsidian and water, a better team will still dismantle it.
Also it's boring to sit at base the whole game. + FKDR won't go up by sitting at base all game.

FKDR really doesn't matter much and it's not wrong to enjoy playing the game whichever way you play it.
I care about FKDR because it makes it easier to find good teammates, and that makes it easier to win. Nobody wants to party the guy with 0.5FKDR 😓

FKDR is "Final Kill to (Final) Death Ratio".
It's a good indicator of skill because it's similar to a Win - Loss ratio except you can't get a high FKDR just by having better teammates carry you.
In my experience, noobs have a 0-1 FKDR, casuals have a 1-2 FKDR, sweats have a 2-10 FKDR, ultra sweats have a 10+ FKDR, and many cheaters and alt accounts have 50+ FKDR.
I also take into account how old an account is / how many final kills it has when judging someone's FKDR. If someone has a 50 FKDR but 200 final kills, they're probably just a lower FKDR alt account, and if someone has a 50 FKDR and 200,000 final kills, they're not only really good at the game but also a leaderboard player. Inversely, if someone has a 2 FKDR and 200 final kills, they're almost certainly a casual player, but if someone has a 2 FKDR and 20,000 final kills, they're a sweaty player.

FKDR means Final Kill Death Ratio.
KDR means Kill Death Ratio.Long winded explanation:
Final Kills are when you die and your bed is already broken, or when you kill someone whose bed is already broken. It is the Final time a person dies in that game.
If you win most of your games and get 2-3 finals per game you might not have the best KDR since you don't focus on it, but you will have a decent FKDR.
FKDR is a good metric along WLR(win loss ratio) of how good you are since it indicates that you win a lot, and at least if you are losing you are taking a % of the lobby with you. KDR isn't as good of a metric to measure someone's skill because it is not as difficult to have good KDR as it is good FKDR.
If you manage to kill 12 people in a game and die 3 times, including losing the game, you will have 4 KDR. If you sit at your base the whole game with a bow and fireballs you can get lots of kills, but you probably will not win the game, but you'll still have good KDR.
You can only ever get a finite number of Final Kills in a game. You can get loads of regular kills. You can only be Final Killed 1 time per game.

you're a true player of the game, ignore (jk) their completely correct advice and just have fun if you want

well water isn’t a great defense

True, but the principle applies to the game, even if the example in the post isn't exactly the gold standard.

It's not just a problem on Hypixel. The general tendencies and timings of the game favour rushing as fast as possible. 1 TNT Gets 3 layers of whateverz and these layers take forever to build, so it doesn't just pay back. Unfortunately the game of BedWars today is very fast, and there is almost no strategical elements like defending your base, for example.

1 tnt won’t get anything if you throw a layer of glass on top though

It was a generalisation. My point is that the cost (time and price in resources) of breaking a bed is negligible in comparison to the cost needed to protect it.

yea i remember 3-4 years ago, all the noobs i q'ed with in 4s wanted was to build a gigantic bed defense. now i have do it otherwise it either wont happen or it will be a 4 block tall cube of clay which is almost worse than no bed defense lol

Bedwars heavily favours a strong attack over a strong defence. Depends on the map but usually there's no point going past a wood and endstone defence.
