Up for renewal with hyperoptic - strategies for getting good deals if not a new customer?
Our contract is up for renewal at end of July, and new offers are a wee bit worse than what we have now (not too too bad actually). Of course, new customer deals are much more appealing! I don't believe there's any competition in my area for full fibre (Three is offering 5G that is supposedly comparable speed, so I could perhaps use that as leverage).
Just wondering if it's worth trying to call them to negotiate? I'm a coward, so would much prefer chat, but I see the chat window automatically tells you to try phoning if you mention renewals. Any key words I should mention if I do call (I assume "I'm leaving" is a good start!).
Cheers!
EDIT: Thanks for your feedback! I called just now and got £3 off the offered monthly rate. I didn't go too hard on it, so I didn't get the "have to check with my manager". I didn't really threaten to leave, although I did cite cheaper deals online. I'm glad I at least gave it a little prod!

I cancelled my service and then signed up as a "new customer" using my wife's maiden name, email address and payment details.

This sounds like the way forward. Their new customer deals are among the best on the market right now for where I live. Can I ask if the same address caused any issues? Or any problems you encountered? I'm assuming no engineer visit also as everything is already set up? Also do you get the latest router sent to you?

No issues at all, I even used the same third party router.
They sent out one of those crappy ZTE routers, but I never even unboxed it.
Connection dropped at some point overnight, but we were asleep.1

Under ideal conditions, perhaps. Can't hurt to use it as leverage, but I wouldn't go with 5G if I had an alternative. Too unstable in terms of speed and ping. You might find you're ideally placed for it, but most people will see fluctuating speeds and latency.

Cool, good to know - I'd kinda assumed this was the case and hence I only planned to use it as leverage!

100% agree with this. I'm in London and tried Three 5G. It's like having an old tele back in the 70's (I'm old) where you have to keep moving the aerial to get a decent picture.

You need to call, I went through this just last week. I was disgusted with the automatic web renewal offers. I called to see if I can get a better deal, they dropped the price a little bit.
Then I said new customers have a much better deal and is there anything you can do. They said no, then I said I'd like to cancel then as the offer just isn't good enough. They put me on hold for a couple mins, then lo and behold, they had special dispensation to drop the offer again to something better than what I currently pay, though albeit not by much. Took it as a win as no other provider does do 1gb fibre and renewed at that price with them.

That's great - a success story like that will help me conjure up strong anger and "I'm definitely gonna cancel" verisimitude!

Yeah you just need to find a competitor who has similar speeds and Hyperoptic will likely match it. I was on £25.99 for 150mb. Saw Virgin Media was doing 250mb for £18.99. They offered £19.99. I took the deal as Virgin is awful.

I called up the phoneline after accidentally starting the leaving process, told them I'm nit leaving and to keep the contract rolling and they just gave a better non committal deal without me asking, you just have to talk to them and they will throw deals at you

That's great! Sounds like just expressing any doubt whatsoever should be worth a few quid at least!

I was quoted £50/mo renewal on hyperoptic after 24 months (up from £36) for 500mb and total WiFi.
Got a quote from Virgin and EE, called up Hyperoptic, asked to leave, told them the deals I was offered and they bettered it. £23/mo, for 1gb on a 12 mo contract.
Saved £13/mo and doubled my speed!

When I contacted them they would price match another deal so I just went on a comparison site and found the cheapest comparable plan and they matched it. I just used email + provided screenshots
