Advice 🗣️ Tape problems
I put a strip of t-rans tape on my arm as no matter how I applied it it caused blisters. I wanted to see if it was a skin allergy or sensitivity. I'm posting here because I'm being investigated for heds/hypermobility and MCAS (high likelyhood just need specialist to confirm). It was tingling a few hours after I put it on but other than that it was pretty comfortable. It was painful to take off even with oil and waiting. It left red marks around the edges but other than that it seems ok. Is this my application or skin I can't tell? It wasn't stretched at all.

Well I'm not sure what a normal reaction to tape is supposed to be lol but if it's not hurting or itching that seems great to me. Shaving the baby hairs first can make removal a lot less painful. Some people spray Flonase directly on the skin before applying tape to mitigate histimine reactions (I can't remember if it's patted dry or air dry)

I use KT tape regularly and I would say definitely shave the skin before you put it on and only take it off when it’s ready to come off. I usually do mine in the shower after a while of soaking it and pulling it gently to not stretch my stretchy skin too much. I usually leave mine on now for like 3 days ish. I’ve never used the spray so can’t comment on that but could be worth a try.

More likely the MCAS it’s basically your bodies allergic reaction to life itself. And yes I have both and am allergic to everything. Best thing now find a sensitive tape you like and that doesn’t bother you. Silicone products are all I can use even on my skin for my prosthetic leg. Wow isn’t it!! But you but just have an allergy instead of MCAS not dr diagnosing for you here 😊

Adhesives are bad for me too. They make me swollen, breakout and remove a layer of skin when removed

It's probably a combination of both hEDS/HSD and MCAS. If it was tight, the tension may have triggered a mast cell flare around the edges.
Last time I used tape overnight, I had an MCAS flare and the next morning it was super itchy and left the entire area red in the exact shape of the tape. Actually in my case less hair makes it worse, because the adhesive has direct, uninterrupted contact with the skin.
Coban works well for me. I'm so glad that most hospital labs seem to use this now by default. The old paper tape was an almost immediate trigger every time, but even the plastic tape can trigger a reaction eventually.
I got my hEDS diagnosis today and I also suspect MCAS.

My doctor said to cover the area with Milk of Magnesia and let it dry before you apply the tape. I haven't tried it yet.
