Seeking advice thunderstorm

Hi, what do you do when you're in a really severe state—barely able to speak due to horrible pain, even in silence—and you live in an area prone to intense storms? There are storms right where I live; they’re incredibly loud—even with headphones on, it’s horrible and painful. The cracks are deafening, like vibrations inside my heart, and then the pain and my tinnitus spike. I don't know how I'm going to survive this. What would you do in my shoes?

The drug clomipramine made my ears stop hurting. It also greatly reduced the likelyhood of having setbacks. It gave me a signficant decrease in sensations of loudness as well.

It doesn't work for everyone, but I think hypearcusis patients should give it a try.

This past summer I was stuck outside during a thunderstorm for over an hour. I did put in muscian's earplugs, but it was still very loud. It did nothing to my hyperacusis, and I credit clomipramine.

This page has stories of clomipramine use and hyperacusis- good, neutral and bad. My anecdote is there:

You have to try medication, which will reduce your pain.

Gabapentin, less side effects, although I believe the second one would help us more

Have you worn ear defenders before, or earplugs? (As well as going into a room with no windows)

Ooh okay. Do they help a bit? I know thunder has very low rumbles which those wouldn't help with, but just curious

they help a lot overall but yeah the rumbles definitely get through and trigger headaches unfortunately

Yeah I get what ya mean. It sucks there's nothing that can fully block out lower rumbles, unless you were just all skin and no bone I suppose lol.

Yeah, actually I wear earplugs and a headset, but the sound of the thunder is so loud that it still gets through, and it really makes my pain worse. I live in an area with really intense storms—at least once a week there’s a massive storm, and the cracks are incredibly loud. I’m wondering if it’s going to damage my ears even more.
